Did he go to THIS college (where the shooting occurred)?
No. There's a video on his mom's Facebook of him reading a scholarship letter from Utah State university. The shooting occurred at Utah Valley University, which is 120 miles away.

The father “secured” his son - I’m thinking with handcuffs. imo

The alleged killer confessed to his father, who is a a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department, sources told Daily Mail. His father then contacted authorities and secured his son before he could be taken into custody.

I would say at gunpoint while he, or his wife call the police, police officers have to leave handcuffs and the like at their workplace when they finish their shift

Wow--

I am so glad he was caught. This must of took extreme courage from his parents.
I see some people on X bashing them, which is... insane. I thank them for coming forward.

imo

Yes, I think so.

"Kirk, a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, died Wednesday after he was shot at an event at Utah Valley University."

"Robinson was a student at Utah Valley University, insiders confirmed to Daily Mail."
That is incorrect. Kirk was shot at Utah Valley University. The killer was a student at Utah State University according to the DM article. "Robinson was a student at Utah State University on a scholarship, insiders confirmed to Daily Mail. "

I think the father "secured" him not by gun or handcuffs, but simply made sure he didn't leave the room they were in. His father could physically handle it if his son tried to escape, but I don't even picture it coming to that. I think the father had the son in a room and they awaited LE.

Yeah DM edited their article. It did say UVU.

Rich kid (by most standards, middle class, upper middle class), two parent home, double income, nice home, access to higher education. No poverty, no neglect, no lack of opportunity.

Decides to be a murderer.

WTH

JMO

Murderers don’t come from just one background. It isn’t limited by gender, income, education, or opportunity.

History shows killers who came from privilege just as much as from poverty—
  • Ted Bundy — educated, law student, politically active, came from a middle-class background, yet committed dozens of brutal murders.
  • Dennis Rader (BTK) — a church leader, Boy Scout troop volunteer, and city compliance officer, living a stable suburban life while secretly killing for decades.
  • O.J. Simpson — a wealthy, world-famous athlete and actor with every opportunity, yet accused and acquitted of double murder before later being convicted of other serious crimes.
  • Scott Peterson — college-educated, suburban life with a pregnant wife, projected a picture-perfect family image while plotting her murder.
  • Chris Watts — steady job in the oil industry, nice suburban home, young family; murdered his wife and daughters to pursue a new relationship.
  • The Menendez Brothers — raised in Beverly Hills luxury with access to privilege and education, yet gunned down their parents in cold blood.
  • Robert Durst — heir to a billion-dollar real estate fortune, Ivy League education, yet implicated in multiple murders and notorious for manipulating the system.
Circumstances don’t guarantee morality; choices do.

IMO, some people are just evil..

And to give up his own life, in slow motion rather than by gunfire on the scene. my opinion
Maybe felt strongly his message was towards one person, not jeopardizing bystanders.

Governor opens with “We Got Him”
Suspect confessed
Recently more political. He talked at dinner about Kirk.
Roommate interviewed said Robinson was joking on Discord
Need to retrieve rifle left in bush, wrapped in towel. Engraved bullets. Scope and rifle unique

Their on.

From presser, it does indeed seem political.

Mauser rifles, including those chambered in .30-06, are currently manufactured in Isny im Allgäu, Germany by Mauser Jagdwaffen GmbH, the civilian weapons subsidiary of the Mauser company. Mauser bolt-action systems were originally developed in Germany in the late 1800s, and although their military production ceased in 1945, the brand continues to produce hunting rifles based on the classic Mauser 98 design for civilian use.
Mauser style rifles are also made in the Czech Republic, and were also made in the former Yugoslavia. Some have also been made in China, where it was once a standard military rifle. A number of smaller companies also make them. The patent is long expired.

Many Mauser rifles found in the US in 30.06 are actually "sporterized" older military rifles. A stock more suitable for hunting replaces the military stock, and a new barrel is installed. Replacing the original 7.92mm cartridge German barrel with a 30.06 caliber barrel is a common alteration in the US, as the 30.06 is a popular hunting cartridge. Newer rifles manufactured by Mauser are not usually found in the US - they are expensive and can't compete with surplus rifles or less expensive copies. The rifle shown in the box appears to me to be an altered older rifle, optimized for hunting.

IMO, this was probably a hunting rifle used by the suspect's father. Not sure what "drop point" means, unless the suspect bought the rifle himself from someone in a private sale... This kind of rifle is usually inexpensive.

I'm so angry at this act of violence. (understatement and obvious reaction, I know)

Presser: bullets were engraved. Messages sent by killer on Discord.

I'm thankful the suspect is in custody.
I am curious as to why security cameras on a college campus weren't being viewed live. This is concerning for campus safety in my opinion. Security should have seen someone on the rooftop. Not just for an event but in general.
Just my opinion

Those poor parents
I just told my adult son that making that decision would have been the hardest struggle of my life. But, you can't murder someone like that and not face consequences.
IMO.

From the press conference:

Tyler Robinson was identified arriving on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger 8:29am in which is his observed on video in a plain maroon t-shirt, light colored shorts, black hat with a white logo, and light-colored shoes.

When WCSO made contact with Robinson, he was wearing clothing consistent with that seen in the earlier surveillance video

Family said Robinson mentioned Kirk's visit to the UVU campus and said Kirk was "spreading hate," a former (?) roommate showed LE Discord messages stating the need to retrieve the rifle from a drop-point, watching the area where the rifle was left, engraving bullets, and changing outfits.

Those poor parents
I was just looking through the photos on his mom’s Facebook. They really look like the All American family. Lots of smiles and family activities together. Vacations, sports, camping, riding 4 wheelers, Hawaiian trips, cruises…the works. And their eldest son Tyler, a 4.0 student was the apple of his mother’s eye.

Ah man. So it was a young college aged lad who has been shooting since he was knee high to a grasshopper 😑 That explains the confident one shot a bit more.

His parents 😭 I cannot imagine what his father is going through, knowing that he's essentially walked his kid onto death row.

Interested in what is gonna be revealed about him and the motives. What happened to this kid? Rare for someone to get away into the wind and then confess to ya dad!

Heartbreaking all round.
