if his father is indeed a 27 year veteran of the Washington County sheriff's department I think it can be assumed there are guns in the family home. What cannot be assumed is that a 22 year old young man who can legally purchase weapons used one belonging to either parent. JMO

I think Patel made a misstep earlier (yesterday?) when he prematurely reported LE had the suspect when in fact they did not. His length of time at the microphone this morning applauding the FBI and urging LE to continue to seek their assistance in cases like these seemed an attempt at reputation repair.

FBI and Patel would be better served just doing better next time by avoiding the microphone until it is absolutely warranted.

That said, it was worthwhile and a good call to get those early images and then the improved images out as quickly as possible.

Moo... I believe they had a suspect yesterday, when he spoke. I think they were being overly cautious to collect enough for warrants and an arrest. Maybe they had already talked to the previous roommate, and viewed the messages, or had the vehicle owner. After two embarrassing snafoos and releasing two suspects, I think they were making darn sure, they had enough for an arrest warrant. They had to have 100% credibility or .......

Moo... TR may have know they were closing in. If the parents saw the photographs, I think they would recognize their son or at least be suspicious. The parents would possibly know what guns were owned or available within the family and TRs skill level. The gun's been labeled by hunting rifle. I think TR spoke to his parents or they spoke to him or clergy and they work together to safely turn him over to law enforcement. When this goes to trial I think we're going to have more answers. That's going to be a long way off ....

I don't mind giving LE credit for catching the criminal, even if turned in. If the LE hadn't released photos, we don't know the suspect would've confessed to his father, for example.

If the family were outdoors and sporty and hunting was a hobby ,then guns might have been purchased as birthday/Christmas presents or for a well done for an achievement.

Suspect’s father recognized him, AP source says​

Robinson’s father recognized him from images released by authorities and encouraged him to turn himself in, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.

He refused at first, but then changed his mind, according to the official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.

His father reached out for help to a youth pastor, who helped Robinson turn himself in.
