To all of you who are regulars on this site - is it normal for there to be no update whatsoever from the police on a case like this after so long?

Its not unusual. Different LE agencies do things differently. Silence here could mean that LE has a good idea who the shooter is and is just building the case and don't really need the public's help. It could also mean that the believe the husband is the shooter and they are just waiting for him to recover. Just speculation. I would think that if police had no leads they would be asking the public for any information about suspicious activity they saw that night in the area.

Utah marks 24 homicides so far this year, the deadliest start in at least 2 decades
The first three months of 2019 have been one of the most violent in Utah in at least two decades.

[...]

Prior to this year, the highest number of homicides for the first three months of a year in Utah was in 1998 when the bureau recorded 15.

There were 11 homicides in Utah during the first three months of 2018 and a total of 78 for the year.

[...]

In some of this year's killings, police are still searching for motives.

On March 12, Maureen Fiore, 36, was shot and killed inside her Sandy home and her husband was critically injured. As of Monday, police were still looking for a suspect.

Maureen’s funeral was yesterday (Thursday) in Colorado. I know someone who attended and they say her husband wasn’t there.

Could he be in the hospital?

While making dinner last night, I was watching KUTV news. This case was discussed. They spoke about information in a search warrant. I can't say what that was as I cannot find a link to this report online. I will keep an eye out for the link and post it here asap.

I thought that at first as well. But then when LE said a shotgun was used..... It would be difficult (but not impossible) to shoot yourself in the butt with a shotgun. But very risky. Could easily be a fatal wound. I'd just like to know if a weapon was found at the scene or not.

Thanks for the update. I went to their website to see if I could find the info they aired last night, and there was nothing posted other than the same stuff they published right after the crime.

It still seems weird to me that nothing is being said. Not even an update from police saying they’re tracking leads. I hope LE knows a lot more and they’re sharing it with the family. If not, if I were a family member I would be livid that no one seems to be following up. Regardless what LE knows, I find it disconcerting that the local news and community in general don’t seem to care much at all about this particular woman who was murdered in her home.

You would think that LE has this situation figured out, considering there is a live witness, but I guess it would depend upon how much he can recall. If it happened very quick, he might now know much. If he recognized the attackers, he would be a big help for the investigation. I hope the delay is just because LE is trying to get all the evidence they can before they make an arrest.

IMO if the husband knew who pulled the trigger they’d have that person in custody or there would be a public BOLO out. Either he didn’t see the person, or didn’t recognize them. Perhaps they were wearing a stocking mask or something that would prevent visual identification.

I hope the local community is keeping this on the front burner and keeping the pressure on. It’s unsettling for friends that there haven’t really been an public updates. I can only hope that they are just crossing their t’s and sorting their i’s.

being lazy (not really, just super busy) but where's bio-mom of the son? If she is alive/around/in the picture at all, does she have a new beau, or a grudge?

Yep, I went there.

I don’t know where the line is on this platform- so I’m not going to cross it- but yes she is around and yes a grudge was held.

Your first post from March 24th on this thread still stands and says it all! I quoted it below-

The custody situation is where the answer to all of this will be found. It was ugly.

So is he or is he not still in the hospital?

Latest info I've found has this detail. I'm assuming they know exactly who the shooter is.

"Sgt. Jason Nielsen with the Sandy City Police Department said Webster has spoken to investigators and is the only witness to the murder.

He said he understands anxiety in the neighborhood, but says as this was not a random attack, the victims' neighbors are not in danger. He said sifting through evidence is time consuming and involves the execution and approval of search warrants."
