UT - Couple shot, Maureen Fiore-Webster, 36, dies, Sandy, 3 Mar 2019

Latest info I've found has this detail. I'm assuming they know exactly who the shooter is.

"Sgt. Jason Nielsen with the Sandy City Police Department said Webster has spoken to investigators and is the only witness to the murder.

He said he understands anxiety in the neighborhood, but says as this was not a random attack, the victims' neighbors are not in danger. He said sifting through evidence is time consuming and involves the execution and approval of search warrants."
It sounds like they don't suspect the husband. I think we all had at least some suspicion, at least at first. But I agree, it sounds like they probably know who it was or have strong suspicion.

Thank you. That info was released on 3/20–almost three weeks ago. It’s hard to fathom 3 weeks going by and LE not at least making a brief written statement saying they are continuing to aggressively investigate this case, but for sake of investigation aren’t releasing any add info at thks time. And incredulous that at least one eager jr reporter hasn’t asked why LE hasn’t said a word. In CO this case would still be in the news. MOO

And the 'only witness to the murder' has spoken to police but not provided a description of the assailant. At least, not one that they have been willing to share with the public.

Search continues for gunman who killed Utah woman; 2nd victim released from hospital, police say
Search continues for gunman who killed Utah woman; 2nd victim released from hospital, police say

Snip
Officers were initially called to the house "on a 'glass break' burglar alarm," according to a pair of search warrants recently unsealed in 3rd District Court. The first arriving officers found shotgun shells in the backyard and the rear sliding glass door was shattered, the warrants state.

"They could hear a male screaming from inside the residence," one of the warrants notes.

Jeffrey Webster was shot in the thigh, according to the warrants. His wife "suffered a gunshot wound to her side and died while enroute to the hospital."

Webster underwent "multiple surgeries," a warrant states. Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen said he was recently released from the hospital and allowed to return home.

This is new, interesting info. The article mentions "suspects," if that's accurate reporting. It also looks like the suspect/s shot into the house from the backyard and didn't enter the home at all ( although that's my conjecture and the article does NOT say the home wasn't entered.)
I hope the husband will be able to recover as fully as is possible, considering the circumstances. I also hope and pray he and his child will remain safe!

Suzi, thanks for finding this info and posting it. Sounds like the husbands injuries were serious even though he was shot in the thigh. Very possible if the femoral artery was torn. Also if there was damage to his male parts—and if that’s the case I would hope that info stays private.

I agree it seems that the shota came from outside the home, though no doubt it wasn’t an accidemt and they were targeted. I hope they have more leads on the shooter than the article suggests. Imagine the fear for yourself and your child if you knew someone tried to kill you and you had no idea who they were or why, only that they’re still out there. I hope LE finds all involved soon and in the meantime makes sure Mr Webster and his son are adequately protected.

Bumping for Maureen. I did not find any new information.

It is ridiculous and mind-blowing how quickly this poor woman’s murder dropped off the radar screen. I hate to wrongfully judge but I can’t help wondering if LE, reporters and the community at large feel she didn’t matter much because of her tattoos, comored hair, body jewelry and spiritual beliefs.

Hoping someone has some info indicating I’m way off base.

Honestly, I don’t think it has anything to do with her having tattoos or anything else. I’m not sure why they were targeted or what happened. I can say that these two did not deserve this! They are amazing people! And I hope and pray the people or person that did this suffers worse than Jeff and Maurine got.

I don’t think the tattoos, etc had anything to do with why she was murdered. But I do wonder if that’s why LE seems to be dragging their feet and local reporters aren’t covering this story a bit. To me it’s very, very strange. I didn’t know her but I’m certain she deserved better than this.

I know it's frustrating, and all I can tell you is that this does happen in other cases - it's not just this one. I'm seeing the same thing in another case right now where a woman was stabbed to death in her own home. Other than a cause of death and details about her funeral service, there has been ZERO news. We've received much more information (although nothing recently) in this case than that one. MOO

Is the husband out of the hospital?

I can't believe I have not heard a single word about this case! That is unreal. People are not murdered in their home regularly in Utah. I agree it's very odd that it's not in the media more. Though, I have noticed a distinct decrease in journalism... so maybe it's just that? Or, maybe it is on request of LE... maybe they don't want coverage because they are building a case.

I do hope the little dude isn't impacted by the arrest. I have no idea who might have done this but I hope it's not the little guy's family members. I know A LOT of people who have had custody battles or contentious break ups that didn't end in murder. Hopefully this is something unrelated to the child.

I hadn't looked at this thread for a while. Sad that more progress hasn't been made. That article does make it sound like they were shot from outside the home. So that, for me, pretty much puts to rest any last suspicion that the husband did it.

I’m still amazed there’s been so little attention paid to this case. It makes me sad for the people who loved her.

The time I spend on WS is typically limited to those cases and threads that have tons of activity. I would have never known about Maureen but for a friend’s mutual acquaintance. I’m just now realizing there are hundreds of other families out there suffering a tragedy worse than their worst nightmare, incredulous that people don’t care more. Many probably have thread-bare threads on here like Maureens.

The added grief Shan’ann’s family/friends endured from media and social media attention was awful. But I think LE/press/public seemingly indifferent to whether justice is ever served might be even worse.
