Another nudge for Maureen and her husband, and hoping he doesn't live in fear daily- although who could imagine he wouldn't?

I hope this case gets solved soon!! Jeff needs closure, and Mo needs justice!!

Is this case still active? Does anyone know if the police are still looking for a suspect. Victim’s home is listed for sale.

Welcome to Websleuths, PT1960. :)

AFAIK, LE is still investigating but we haven't had any news since April. MOO

Seems strange but perhaps there is no obligation by law enforcement to update the status. Feel for Maureen’s loved ones who must want some closure.

Yes, agreed. I hope LE is at least keeping the family informed. MOO

It’s just a huge bummer. Maureen was such an amiable, fun, and kind soul. So sad!

I’m under the impression they know who did it, or at least was responsible for getting someone to pull the trigger. But don’t have enough evidence to prosecute. IMO if they haven’t got evidence by now they aren’t going to get it unless someone informs or confesses someday. It’s an active case —only because it’s too soon to declare it cold. Probably sitting on somebody’s desk getting no attention anymore. Would love to be wrong. She deserves better and no one should be able to get away with murder that easily.

I know I’m coming into this post late in the game. Live in Colorado and just happened on this news by chance last week. I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around how this could have happened and why it is still unsolved. Only met Maureen a few times but cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would have a beef with her. Especially one so bad that they would take her life. Who could possibly be so angry or hate her so much to take such an extreme measure? So it seems to me the likely motives and possible candidates for who might have wanted her killed would be quite small (making L.E. crime-solving job easier not harder)? My point is the pool of her enemies would seem quite small if not almost nonexistent.

Does anyone on here have any possible insight into who or why anyone would want to harm such a sweet innocent person?

The custody situation is where the answer to all of this will be found. It was ugly.

I don’t know if this true, but.....

This is from the CDC (not me)

Homicide is one of the leading causes of death for women aged ≤44 years.* In 2015, homicide caused the death of 3,519 girls and women in the United States. Rates of female homicide vary by race/ethnicity (1), and nearly half of victims are killed by a current or former male intimate partner (2). To inform homicide and intimate partner violence (IPV) prevention efforts, CDC analyzed homicide data from the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) among 10,018 women aged ≥18 years in 18 states during 2003–2014. The frequency of homicide by race/ethnicity and precipitating circumstances of homicides associated with and without IPV were examined. Non-Hispanic black and American Indian/Alaska Native women experienced the highest rates of homicide (4.4 and 4.3 per 100,000 population, respectively). Over half of all homicides (55.3%) were IPV-related; 11.2% of victims of IPV-related homicide experienced some form of violence in the month preceding their deaths, and argument and jealousy were common precipitating circumstances. Targeted IPV prevention programs for populations at disproportionate risk and enhanced access to intervention services for persons experiencing IPV are needed to reduce homicides among women.

Just thought this was interesting anecdotally. But if Maureen’s husband was innocent because he was shot. Who else would have done this?

Someone/s wanted both Maureen and her husband dead. I believe both were seen inside their home by the killer/s and it was by sheer luck her husband survived. This is my own opinion gleaned from reports on the thread, and I really feel for her husband and family. I'd be terrified the killer/s might still come after me, so hope and pray he and the child can live in peace and safety.
Bumping for Maureen!

It’s important to keep bumping this. Also, gathering more/new information may be useful.

Does anyone know the status of custody? Maureen’s stepson still in Utah? Does dad have relationship with son? Is he allowed to see son? Have LE issued any “no contact orders” (to Jeff’s ex, etc)? This could be public court info? This would be telling.

House is up for sale (this seems normal as who could possibly stay in house where spouse was executed)?
Husband relocated back to NorCal and is launching CBD energy product in honor of Mo.

Occam’s razor (from wiki)

This is a principle from philosophy. Suppose there exist two explanations for an occurrence. In this case the one that requires the least speculation is usually correct. Another way of saying it is that the more assumptions you have to make, the more unlikely an explanation.

So if you have to speculate what happened in this case what has the fewest assumptions? What is the most likely explanation? Who did this? Why was Maureen murdered?

I don’t know if this true, but.....

What an amazing coincidence that the shooter came over on a date that the young son was out of the home. And the wife is dead, husband survived. That is such a coincidence that men seem to survive these incidents, and the wife dies. Hmmm.

And the house is for sale?

if they shot into the house from the backyard, they probably knew there was surveillance cameras - whether the victims or neighbours or both .. whose name is the house in?

It’s not always the husband.

In this case the father/husband isn’t the only person who would know the child’s schedule and have a vested interest in making sure he wasn’t home at the time of the shooting. And the husband’s injury was serious, not typical of one inflicted intentionally to deflect suspicion.

Just sayin .....

Putting the house up for sale doesn’t raise any flags for me—after something like this people often choose to move so they’re not constantly reminded of the traumatic event.

All of the above MOO

Would be interesting to take a survey (or to know the opinions of homicide detectives working the case).

Who thinks this was a random attack vs. an execution?
Was the shooter a hired gun? If so hired by whom?

Don’t know much about guns but seems like shotguns would leave less of a fingerprint than a rifle or a pistol.

Personally it seems unlikely that the attack was random.
It looks more like an extremely calculated, well-planned, and well-executed attack. Almost choreographed. That’s scary because so far whoever did this has skated.

What’s less clear is whether it was set up by an “insider” and carried out by someone else. If it was an inside job the obvious potential “insiders” would be the ex or the husband.

If it was done entirely by an “outsider” then what was the motive? Did they hate Mo or Jeff or both? Why? Zero insight into this but it’s still very possible.

If the shooter was outside the house in the backyard... besides shells being left wonder what sort of evidence police found (footprints etc, had it snowed?) such as determining ingress and egress routes? There had to be something...where did they come from? How many shots were fired? Were the shots fired through a window or was the shooter in the house?

Knowing the status of the parental relationships with the son might shed telltale insight on LE beliefs about the case.
