*****
A woman from the town of Escalante in southern Utah is missing.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office said 70-year-old DeEtte Spencer was last seen Monday around 10:30 p.m. at the Walmart in Price. She was returning from visiting family in Colorado.

*****
Spencer has not made any credit card transactions since that night, according to police.

*****
Her family had been tracking her iPhone during her drive through Colorado, but the signal was lost. Deputies attempted to ping the phone without success, which they believe may indicate a dead battery.

*****
According to Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, both a Silver Alert and a nationwide Attempt-to-Locate were activated on Friday, but they have not received any responses.

*****
Spencer has no known medical conditions that may have led to her disappearance, but the Sheriff’s Office has reportedly checked with hospitals across the state as a precaution.

*****
The sheriff’s office acquired a photo of Spencer taken by security cameras at the Price Walmart.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have information regarding Spencer’s location to call 435-676-2678.

Family members say it has now been one week since DeEtte Spencer left her daughter’s home in Rangely, Colorado. She was supposed to be driving to her home in Escalante, but instead ended up in the Price area — an entirely different direction.

*****
“We’re really scared that she’s out there somewhere, stuck in a snowbank or on a dirt road where she has no contact with anybody,” he (her son) said.

“It’s hard to even think of somebody out there alone, especially with winter, and it’s cold,” said Juliann Allen, Brad’s wife and Spencer’s daughter-in-law.

*****
For the past week, family members have traveled hundreds of miles across Utah and Colorado, retracing possible routes in hopes of finding clues. So far, they’ve turned up nothing.

*****
Spencer’s disappearance comes just months after another tragedy for the family. DeEtte’s husband died in November after crashing his ultralight aircraft.

Here's the obituary that confirms she was the wife of the man who died following a ultralight crash. Fred J Spencer Obituary November 5, 2025 - Magleby Mortuary Reports on the crash itself stated the pilot had severe injuries including two broken legs and a broken arm, but the death was reported the same day of the crash so either the initial crash report was incorrect or he died shortly after transport to the hospital for his injuries. A terrible thing for her to go through as his spouse. The ultralight was a single place (seat) so no NTSB/FAA investigation as it's not legally an "aircraft" and would have required no license to fly.
