Please tell me this is a misprint.

And,yes, the child who got raped by a miscreant and the mother is faulty. However, we are seeing way too many people for economic means band together but there is a missing child. Did anyone think to look at who comes into their homes?

This is far worse than a momentary relapse into a stove burning and killing others. This is inviting a lot of people who don't have responsibity. Yes, we can all be hard on our luck but 10 couples? This is a commune.

I remember that it was 4 couples, I don't know if it was the Nortons plus 4 other couples or 4 including the Nortons. But I haven't seen 10 before.

I think they should take a closer look at the Bosnian national they had stopped who was acquitted of child sexual assault....I wonder if they have checked his records in his home country...............

I'm wondering if they talked to all the sex offenders in the area. I've discovered that if people rely only on state sex offender registries, there are instances where a sex offender just down the block will be missed.

I was able to find a sex offender registered in Iowa, but not in Utah, living at an address less than 1,000 feet from the Norton's address in Salt Lake City. He wasn't considered a high-risk offender, perhaps that's why he's not on Utah's registry. But once I checked into his court case in Iowa, I found that his victim was somewhere between 0 and 13 years of age, and he'd also been charged with cruelty to animals while still a teen, himself.

The guy has a webpage up that makes it look like he's found God, etc. but I'd want to make sure he had an alibi, too, if I were looking into people in the area. I sent his information to contacts in the SLC PD on the off-chance they'd missed him. (I doubt they did, but I wasn't going to feel right until I let them know what I'd found.)

I'll post if anything comes of it, but the need for a COMPLETE national registry becomes more obvious to me all the time.

Thanks, Steve. Sometimes I think I will lose it over common sense answers. I agree, a national registry is such a necessary tool. I, also, think people need to register on prior abuses or abnormalities. These are the big clues and the pattern fits over and over.

Heat warning for people searching for Destiny
LAST UPDATE: 7/22/2006 5:59:59 PM

There is now a warning for volunteers helping look for Destiny Norton: no more children on the front lines of the search.

This after a young boy was treated for heat stroke.

"It’s just too hot," said family spokesman Jeannie Hill.

The young boy was treated by paramedics after he returned with his mother from searching. He was allowed to go home after paramedics checked him out. "If you have small children, don't take them out on the search," said Hill. "Find a babysitter or we'll send you home with flyers."

Hundreds of Volunteers Search for Destiny
July 22nd, 2006 @ 5:04pm

Gene Kennedy Reporting

Five-year-old Destiny Norton has been missing for almost a week now. But still today volunteers turned out in large numbers to look for her.

Volunteers faced triple digit temperatures, but that did not slow them down much.

The command post is at 440 East Harvard Avenue (1110 South). At last count, 800 people had checked in to search today. Members of the community have said they will look until they find this little girl, and they're sticking to their word.

Today's volunteers searched neighborhoods that have already been searched at least once or twice. Still, they're looking behind bushes, garbage cans, anywhere they may find a trace of the missing girl.

Oh, that is so touching. Lori's dad doesn't even live in Utah. I believe that he lives in California. I'm glad that the two families have maintained their friendship throughout everything. I think the way Mark's family handled everything made all of the difference in the world. Bless these parents that can get out there and look for a missing child when they have been in those exact shoes. It must bring back so many painful memories yet they get right out there anyway. Bless them all.

Someone must have picked up this little girl as soon as she walked outside. She can't be out there just wandering around after all of this time.

I wonder if LE can go inside and check out registered sex offenders homes now if there is a missing child in their neighborhood? I know that they can ask to come in and look around but the sex offender doesn't have to let them in without a warrent although if they aren't hiding anything why not let them look. I always thought that after John Couey that LE should be able to just go inside and look around. If LE had asked to go in and look around Jessica would still be alive today. It should be a law that they can go look around.

I was thinking about something I had read in one of the articles about Destiny. It said she and her family had been to a "drum circle" at Liberty Park earlier that evening. What I am wondering if it is possible that somebody at the park had noticed Destiny there and followed the family home and waited for a chance to snatch Destiny the next time she came out of the house. What does anyone think of this?
The more I think about this RKnowley... the more I think that is what
happened.

Wow. I found a guy who is on the sex offender registry in two states, but NOT in Utah, yet guess what -- he lives just over a 1,000 feet from the house where the Nortons live. He was convicted of exposure when still a teen, in 1999.

I've given the info to the police, and as he is likely not a suspect, I'm not going to give out his info, but I do have a blog entry here:

http://huffcrimeblog.com/?p=690

That I wrote in part to make a point about the obvious holes between registries from state-to-state.

Here's the thing about this guy. His webpage(s) make it clear he is a big music fan, especially beat-heavy music like rap and ska.

Figured that's worth throwing out there.

First of all let me say that I am in no way, shape or form trying to be snotty or rude to anyone. These are just some points that came to me as I was reading the threads. If what I say offends anyone that truly was not the intention. Now with that said….

I think way too much emphasis is being placed on her appearance. The caps, although not attractive, all I can think is that “Thank God her parents cared enough to take her to the dentist at all” They don’t look like they have a lot but they got her teeth done so she could eat and not feel the pain of bottle rot.

The hair, my husband and I work hard, raise our girls to be good people and are good parents of two straight A students and right this minute my 10 year old is asleep with bright green hair and my 5 year old with bright red. They wanted it and after my initial horror subsided I realized how neat it was for kids to want to be unique, not follow the trend and be their own person. As for her mother cutting the back of her hair, my ten year old also has a hair cut that needs to be trimmed in the back so it will be all spiky. So I don’t think it is right to judge the parents for how she looked. As younger parents we do things differently than our parents did. We are more relaxed about what is the “norm”.

On the other hand, if my 5 year old had stormed out of the house.... well I don’t know what I would do because she knows better. She knows if she wants to have a tantrum to do it in her room because she wouldn’t get the doorknob turned before she was plucked from the entryway and sat in time out, she knows that I am the mom and I am not afraid of her.

That is just my thoughts….

Destiny's mother said that she did not storm out of the house, that rumor is totally false. I don't know why people keep stating it as fact when she dispelled it. I'm not there but it seems as if her parents are cooperating fully and totally and they don't seem to be the on the hot seat, which is VERY unusual IMO. I'm sure they are still being looked at closely but I haven't gotten a bad vibe from them.

As far as her teeth and hair, now that her face is for the public to take notice, people can't help but weigh in on things like that. People like myself don't think it's appropriate to allow a 5 year old to make decisions about coloring her hair, I don't care if it does wash out in one washing. But that's me. You obviously see no harm in it. Well, I don't think it's harmful but I'm not into letting my kid look like what is IMO, a punk. Again, my opinion. But it doesn't mean that Destiny deserves to be snatched from her family, they seem to love her, they just parent her differently than I would. As for her teeth, maybe it's just bad genes and doesn't mean that she is neglected. If one has never encountered a child that has silver caps, it does look bad. But enough people on here have explained that it's not as bad as it seems and I don't think people are dwelling on it as much now as in the beginning.

I am not going to start an argument with you about this because it is apparent that we see things different but I will say this, NEITHER of my children look like punks! Gawd forbid they be aloud to have a little fun and show that they have individuality, you may not think that is appropriate for a five year old to make a decision on what color her hair is but I for one celebrate the fact that she doesn't want to look like every other Barbie doll cookie cutter 5 year old. This may be your opinion but I take it personally, my kids don't look like punks!!!!!

I didn't call your kids punks. I was not at all rude to you or about your kids so no need to get all emotional and take things personally. And it IS my opinion, I didn't say it was law. What you call "celebrating" the fact that your kids are into being different, and that you allow hair coloring at a young age, I call something else.

And what does it matter anyway? I clearly said that regardless of how I felt about Destiny's parents style of parenting, that she did not deserve to be snatched from them and going/gone through God knows what. Destiny doesn't deserve it nor do her parents.

ETA: Not that I owe you an explanation, but I would like to clear up just the same, that when I said "punk" I didn't mean it as in "no good", I meant as in a "punk rock" look, like what some kids are into in middle school or high school.

Where is she!?!?!?! I wish I lived close by to be able to join in the search, I cannot imagine what her family is going through.

Please let her be found soon, and be found safe.
