Statement by prosecutor, posted on Justice for Ethan Stacy FB discussion board:

Concerning the Ethan Stacy Homicide

To provide information to the public based on the many phone calls and emails the staff of the Davis County Attorney’s Office is receiving: We thank the public for the strong outpouring of support for Ethan Stacy. Unfortunately, we are not able to respond personally to the many communications being directed to our office due to the need to spend our time on the evidence and the law, but we desire justice as well. The death of Ethan Stacy is being actively and aggressively investigated, and we are assessing the extensive amounts of evidence being acquired and processed. This evidence includes many types of information, such as forensic data (particularly from crime scene and Medical Examiner investigations), witness statements, audio and video recordings, and financial, computer and other electronic information. The investigation phase of this case is not yet complete. Once all the facts are known, we will file the most serious charges and seek the maximum penalty we legitimately can for their crimes. Such decisions will be made based on all admissible evidence. It would be a disservice to Ethan, his family, and all who are urging justice for Ethan for our office to make premature decisions or pronouncements based on an incomplete understanding of the evidence. For instance, some of the most significant and legally necessary scientific information has not yet been submitted. Thank you for caring,Troy Rawlings

Do you have the link to this facebook?
I am hoping that the maximum penalty they can get is death for both perpetraters. I am so worried that SS will not be charged in his murder. I don't believe for a second that all she did was watch the abuse, although for that alone she should be sentenced to death, but I believe she participated as well. I know she will do all she can to portray herself as a victim. I hope as much as she is talking NS is talking too, though nothing he says is any more believable then what she says. I hope they can find direct evidence of her abuse. If she is charged with anything less then first degree murder or if they make any kind of deal with her, a great injustice will have been done to poor Ethan once again.

Yikes, I'm sorry. Forgot to copy the link over too.

There's also a link to the funeral home. The person is a friend of the step-mom, so it's probably correct.

IMO, given the sheer outrage of the local community (and state) --- just read comments on FB and with articles from local media --- if he tries to cut a deal and offer her a discounted sentence they will run him out of town on a rail. And I think he knows this. What I'd like to know is, even if they feel there is only a small chance of getting a murder conviction, why not add it on to the other charges anyway? If they get it, fine. If not, at least they tried.

ETA: I am glad to see that he's being very careful and making sure he has all his ducks in a row... that he's not in any hurry to file charges.

BBM, Respectfully Calliope, May I ask why you think there may be only a small chance of getting a murder conviction? I ask because I simply do not see any chance they won't get a murder conviction. Or, is your comment perhaps in relation to SS?

ETA: Never mind, I see you are refering to SS...... I need coffee, never really slept well and time to start the day already.

I think the reason they don't just charge her with murder is because if by some chance she isn't convicted and later she confesses or more evidence is uncovered they will have lost their only chance to charge her. From what I understand they only get one shot at it and if it can't be proved and she is aquitted she could get away with it. I am all for taking their time and nailing it down. I guess emotionally I want her hung now but if they keep her locked up and it takes a while before they can lock it up all the better. It does bother me that her bail is so low. I know she probably can't afford it anyway but what if some kook wants to make a name for themselves by bonding her out? It's not like it hasn't happened before. Of course she is probably safer where she is now. I don't know where she would go anyway. Don't know about family except there was something her her divorce papers about keeping Ethan away from his maternal grandmother so the apple must not fall far from the tree. I have not heard one person defend her. The only relative I have heard about is a half brother who is ashamed to be related to her. Can't blame him. I hope she never draws another free breath again.

:)

I think they should be able to get a murder conviction on SS, but I guess it depends on whether the laws allow him to charge her with murder. What I don't understand... if someone dies during a felony, whether you directly killed them or not you can be charged with murder. Why wouldn't that apply here?

I agree. If she doesn't get a murder charge or a negligent homicide, manslaughter or something, I am going to be livid.

In Memory of Ethan Stacy

Added by Mathew Myrup

I have two little boys of my own; I can't imagine if anything happened to them. I'm brought to tears when I think about the horrible things that Ethan experienced. No 4-year-old deserves such a fate. I don't know Ethan's family, but my heart goes out to them (especially Ethan's father.)

It's not a lot; I made this slideshow on a whim. But I hope others will be uplifted in watching it as much as I was in making it.

The above facebook group is huge, well over 14,000 members by now and messages are being posted fast and furious. I can't find it now, it's moved farther down the page, but I read that a picket is being organized for the courthouse when they are due to appear. I think one at the jail too, but I'm not sure of that. In any case, locals are coming out today.

Good.

What I find odd is that there have not been any comments from her friends and family as to what type of mum she was with him....

If she left last October she was his mother for 3 years......I would like to know from people who knew the situation what she was like with him.....ie was she a caring, good mum.........I dont think he was the highlight of her life...I think she cared more about herself BUT....there have been no comments as to what she was like and I find this very odd......you would think if she wasnt a caring mum someone would have written somewhere that she was neglectent or something.....

Also I think there has been a lot of vindictiveness and hatred going back awhile here....

The stepmum has been saying quite a bit and actually came out and said that she always hated stephanie and yet a couple of people have mentioned on here that Joe had a restraining order out on her......hhmmmmm

Also it was mentioned that the maternal grandparents were to have nothing to do with Ethan...now what is that all about as well???

I think there has been alot of mudslinging, fighting and just basic ugliness within this whole mob for a long time...

I don't recall the dates of the PO, I think Stephanie could have been the catalyst of the PO between Joe and Michelle. Imagine if Stephanie wasn't nice to Michelle's kids? That could lead to a few issues.

Good morning everyone, (((hugs))) to all that have been affected by this horrific crime! Does anyone have a link or know if there is a live stream of todays events? TIA

This was what I was wondering as well.....I bet the restraining order had something to do with Stephanie when she was married to Joe....I could have imagined that Stephanie would be the type of person that would try to get rid of an ex....there certainly wasnt any love lost between them....

Hello my friends. I've had a lump in my throat and an ache in my chest for days -- can't even reach the anger stage because I'm still in the heartbroken stage. Anyway -- I wanted to thank everyone who has been keeping up with Ethan's case and posting the latest information for us to read. Also, I wanted to ask if someone finds out about a memorial fund for Ethan, would you let us know? I would definitely be picketing at the courthouse right now if I could. Since I can't, I'm praying, writing, and trying to figure out how what we can get out of this in order to honor his life. In my mind the finest thing would be to figure out how to prevent it from happening to other baby angels. All thoughts and comments welcome. And thank the Lord the public is speaking up and making it known to anyone who will listen that this kind of treatment of kids is unacceptable and must be stopped. The outrage is palpable -- good -- let that judge who forced visitation feel the burn. WHEN ARE JUDGES GOING TO MAKE DECISIONS THAT BENEFIT THE CHILDREN FIRST AND THE PARENTS SECOND???????? WHY ARE THEY ALWAYS TRYING TO DO RIGHT BY THE PARENTS THEREBY ABDICATING THEIR OWN PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ENSURING A LITTLE BOY'S OR GIRL'S SAFETY? IF A JUDGE CAN'T DO IT, WHO THE HELL CAN???? That judge needs to get many many emails and letters expressing public outrage.

My heart goes out to the LE who have to deal with these horrific crimes and the 🤬🤬🤬 who commit them. I cannot imagine the strength it takes to work in LE. Prayers going out to them and to Ethan's family.

I have spoken with Michelle on the phone. Stephanie was the catalyst of the fights between Joe and her.

She also tried to keep Michelle's children from Michelle.

According to the below link, there was a restraining order taken out by Joe against Stephanie.
ETA: Duh, I completely read that wrong. Thats a custody request not a restraining order. Lack of sleep and reading through tears is hard!

http://www.abc4.com/content/news/top%20stories/story/Ethan-Stacy-Murder-Court-Documents-Reveal/vurmad35Bk-gvhUezprFCw.cspx

(snip)
Uncovered: Stephanie Sloop's ex-husband, Joe Stacy, filed an emergency custody request last year against his ex-wife. Joe Stacy told a judge in an affidavit that Ethan's mother, Stephanie, was unstable and that he feared for Ethan's safety. The now Virginia man told a judge that he was scared that his ex-wife would take Ethan and never return the child, and had abandon him previously.

Phantom, on the FB page there is a discussion about helping Joe. Someone mentioned they've been in contact with the funeral home and arrangements are being made. Also, someone put him in contact with an agency in Utah that assists victims, that will apparently pay to transport Ethan back home to his dad.

There is a link to the funeral home on that page too. Once arrangements are made and the obituary is posted, it will probably mention where memorials can be donated in his name.

That's what I suspected. I really feel for Michelle and Joes children. My kids are stepsiblings and half siblings to each other. If they lost one, it would be so devistating for the others.
