Kane County John Doe on The Doe Network:

Has the deceased nose been broken, head injury??? That's an unusual profile imho.

Dead thread, but I would say yeah. It looks unnatural how flat this guy's face is and considering the cause of death is listed as "blunt force trauma to the head", that might be the reason for the weird profile.

It looks like a bad recon to me. Well, many times they're bad. His paper was from the court house and probably did not have a picture on it. Likely didn't have his name on it or if it did, the name was faded or somehow not on the piece of paper or whatever he had.

I really wish they would release pics of it. Could be such a clue.

Here are a couple articles that might shed some light on this.

1. 1994 John Doe - Newspapers.com

"It appeared the skull had been hit twice with a blunt object, the sheriff said."

2. 1994 John Doe - Newspapers.com

"The dead man's face was knocked loose from the skull when a killer hit or stomped the right side of his head"

They actually sent the papers to the FBI for analysis, but even the FBI couldn't discern much. I'm not sure the general public could do any better, but it wouldn't hurt trying.

"But years of harsh weather have stripped the court and sheriffs papers of any handwriting that would list the man's name or address. Attempts by the FBI lab to discern the writing have been unsuccessful. The events list - describing entertainment at local Flagstaff bars - is printed on newsprint, which is worn and torn away in places. What is apparent is the month, April, and the days of the week, but not the year. "

Sorry, I responded to the thought about his "not so good" recon and hadn't realized that you were referring to the piece of paper in his pocket!

Sorry...Yeah, misread that you wanted to see his face!

Maybe this is how the Doe Network discerned that this man died in 1992. If the days of the week are listed for April, it should be easy to figure out the year.

That's a really good point! I wonder if that was actually ever checked. Many of the articles state investigators thought the date was 1986 on the papers, but admitted they weren't sure.

"Investigators initially believed that it, like the court document, originated in 1986. "We've called these clubs and asked them to look at their old bookings to try to determine what years these advertisements might have been placed," Banfill said. "We assumed that it was 1986, but it's looking more and more like maybe this came from a later year, such as 1988 ..."

''This year, Kane County detectives and the Utah Medical Examiners Office sent evidence to Orthram DNA Laboratory in Texas, Alldredge said. Scientists there were then able to develop a “DNA extract” that they used to create a “comprehensive DNA profile” for the unidentified man.
With a DNA profile also came the possibility to track down relatives.
“Ultimately the DNA and genealogy provided new leads to Kane County Sheriff’s Detectives,” Alldredge said.''

Articles say he had been homeless and last seen in Flagstaff AZ. Glad he has his name back.
