Given that 9mm ammunition is very common, I'd like to see the police report filed in Cortez to confirm if the stolen weapon was in fact a Turkish shotgun. I'd hate to see the investigation stalled searching a "Turkish" gun versus any 9MM weapon. MOO
Has there even been an official confirmation of the murder weapon's caliber? If I recall correctly we only have a police report stating 9mm casings were found then we have the dad and his private investigator, independent of police, tying those shell casings to a specific stolen gun and its companion piece - of which they have provided no photo reference. I honestly am inclined to think it's a wild goose chase - and I am typically reluctant to say that about avenues of murder investigation.

No, I don't believe there's been any confirmation related to the caliber by LE other than that the women were found shot multiple times, and no weapon recovered.

I’ve been confused about that, too. Finding 9mm casings at a campsite doesn’t seem noteworthy.

Really? The women were found with MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS to their bodies!

If I were going to murder a couple of people, I wouldn’t leave my casings laying around. Shooting while camping is so common, we see casings laying around at campsites all the time. So I think it’s quite possible the casings found were just from other campers. Not that I condone people leaving their casings, they should have more respect for public areas but in reality that’s not the case.

Shooting while camping is common?? At a campsite? Anyone shooting near a campsite in Canada would be arrested immediately.

It was on national forest land, it wasn’t in a campground. We don’t camp in campground, only dispersed camping, so yes shooting is very common.

Though I have only a moderate interest in guns, nearly all the semi automatic casings that I have seen have been brass colored.

The only common silver casings that I remember were for revolvers, not semi automatic handguns. How common are silver casings for semi automatic handguns?

In short, if silver casings are truly unusual, perhaps a local, or relatively local source for the ammunition can be traced? Also, could silver colored casings indicate a home re-loader?
CCI has silver colored casings, Silver Bear ammo also. CCI is pretty common and Silver Bear is one of the cheap brands. I'm sure there are several more.

IMO, it would be enough for some bigoted person or people that they were a same sex couple.
This is jumping to a conclusion. It's easy to do but I haven't heard a stitch of evidence this is a hate crime or related to anyone's sexual orientation thought a lot of comments leaning that way. My opinion also.

LE
Thanks for your candid response @DeDee. Yes, it is disturbing to follow this thread when we have suspicions. I am confident

I can understand, if you have confident suspicions about who committed these crimes, why you might find others offerings of different ideas disturbing. For me, it is my most fervent hope that by keeping the dialogue active that someone from the Moab area, who may have feared contacting LE with information, might be reading this and might find the courage to share their information. The families and friends of these victims deserve justice to be served. Maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there withholding information that might be critical in solving the case.

This wasn't a camp site. It was in a very remote area on government owned land. Target practice in remote areas is very common. Those shell casings only mean something if the victims were murdered with 9 mm ammunition, which I believe is information yet to be released.

I guess anything's possible. Though I'm not sure how a murderer would've immediately known they were a couple unless they had some personal connection to them. (Such as a jilted ex who was mad that the younger one left him for an older woman - though that might conflict with the story about the "creeper" who was acting freaky toward them).

I'm curious if the prosecutors will take the "hate crime" angle if the perp is caught.

I went to a campground in a national forest in NC a couple of weeks ago. It was about 20 miles from a mid sized town but very far from any major urban area. Sure enough, there was a homeless couple camped there. Having to burn firewood for heat despite a burn ban posted. 30somethings seeming otherwise able-bodied. Not enough food, not enough gas for their car etc, etc.

Was also in moab a couple of weeks after this crime was committed so our group was aware of the murders. There was a guy at that campground that was sort of creepy in light of the recent crimes in the area. This guy was retiree age and was in an old RV that would not run. He had no idea of how to fix it so would try to engage others to tell his story and ask advice, etc. Stuck in the campground by himself with no way to fix his van. Sob story etc etc

While i was creeped out by these scenarios, I can see how my own actions might be seen as creepy by others. Pulling into a campground after hours, sleeping in my car by myself and taking off before daylight during a roadtrip. Creepy is in the eye of the beholder...

His flight back to Florida days after their murder has always puzzled me.

In a scenario where BL killed them, I have to wonder if they were trying to convince Gabby to end things with Brian.

I sincerely hope they did recover Brian’s gun and compared ballistics with the bullets that killed Kylen & Crystal.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe GB knew something about BL or suspected BL of something and this was perhaps the argument that
ensued orginally?

I have not been following the GP/BL case for a while. Is there reason to believe he even had brought a weapon with them in the van in Utah? I thought the one he used on himself in FL was obtained later from his family home after he returned there with the van.

There hasn’t been any confirmation he took his firearm with him on the trip, but I would not camp in grizzly country without one and it’s logical to think he had his with him.
