What we know about Ayoola Ajayi, the man arrested in connection with MacKenzie Lueck's disappearance
[...]

According to Salt Lake County property records, Ajayi owns the home at 547 N. 1000 West where police served a search warrant Wednesday evening.

He joined Airbnb as a user in 2016, according to the site. He listed his home there in two separate pages, offering accommodations in the basement of the home, according to the site.

Ajayi’s LinkedIn indicates that he has work experience in tech support and IT for companies in Utah including Dell, Goldman Sachs and Microsoft.

[...]

He also self-published a book on Amazon called "Forge Identity." In the book, a teenage boy witnesses a gruesome murder and must choose whether to live a life of crime or make an escape, according to the plot summary.

Ajayi was discharged from the Utah Army National Guard in June 2015 after six months of service, according to Utah National Guard Public Affairs Officer D.J. Gibb.

Ajayi was a member of the 214th Forward Support Company in Tooele, according to Gibb. He did not go through basic training and did not receive any certificates or awards, Gibb said. Therefore, he was not eligible to deploy with the Army National Guard, he said.

Ajayi did not meet “medical procurement standards” and was discharged as a result, Gibb said.

Ajayi was ordered to pay $1,097 to Ridgeview Property Management in a Davis County eviction case in 2017, according to court records.

Ajayi, along with two other men, were served a three-day notice to pay or vacate the premises in March 2016, with which they did not comply, court documents show.

Aside from several traffic violations, Ajayi has no previous criminal history in Utah.

Mackenzie Lueck disappearance: Suspect wanted secret room with hooks on its wall built in home, contractor reveals

June 28, 2019

SALT LAKE CITY -- A handyman in Utah told Fox News exclusively on Friday the suspect arrested in the murder of a University of Utah student had asked to build a secret, soundproofed room in his home's basement with hooks on its walls.
[...]
Meanwhile, B W, a local contractor, told Fox News on Friday the individual who owned that home reached out to him in April and asked him to build a “soundproof” room there.

“He slowly added on other requests, like building a secret door and adding hooks to the wall,” Wolf said, explaining how the individual asked him to come to the home and give him an estimate for the potential project.

Wolf added the person said he wanted construction done as soon as possible, “before his girlfriend got back into town.”
[...]
The contractor, who owns a home-repair business in Utah, said he was “weirded out” by the whole scenario and turned down the job offer, telling the individual he was too busy.

Missing Utah student: Suspect charged with aggravated murder in Mackenzie Lueck case, police say - CNN

June 28, 2019
(CNN)Police have filed an aggravated murder charge against a man who allegedly killed missing Utah college student Mackenzie Lueck, authorities said Friday.

The suspect, identified by Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown as Ayoola Ajayi, also faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, obstruction of justice and desecration of a body.
Lueck had not been seen since the early morning hours of June 17, when she took a Lyft to a park in North Salt Lake City, according to police.
Their investigation showed Lueck and Ajayi's phones were both in the park within less than a minute of each other, Brown said. This was approximately the same time that Lueck's phone stopped receiving data or location services.

Police: Missing University of Utah student Mackenzie Lueck is dead; man charged with murder

June 28, 2019

Police have charged a man with aggravated murder in the "tragic and horrific" killing of missing University of Utah student Mackenzie Lueck, officials announced Friday.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Ayoola Ajayi, was taken into custody Friday morning after an investigation uncovered a fresh dig area, charred female human tissue and items belonging to the missing student in the backyard of his Salt Lake City home, police said. His neighbors, they added, had informed detectives they noticed Ajayi burning something with the help of gasoline around June 17, when Lueck was last seen.
[...]
Lueck, 23, disappeared after meeting an unknown individual around 3 a.m. on June 17 near a park in Salt Lake City after being dropped off by a Lyft driver, according to police. Brown said Ayaji was the last person Lueck was communicating with before her disappearance and that phone records indicated they were both in the area around 3 a.m.

Man charged with murder, kidnapping in disappearance of missing Utah student Mackenzie Lueck

June 28, 2019

A Salt Lake City man is being charged with the aggravated murder, kidnapping and desecration of a body in the death of a Utah college student who was last seen 11 days ago, police said Friday.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown said when police searched Ayoola A. Ajayi’s home with a warrant earlier this week, they found burned evidence including the belongings and remains of Mackenzie Lueck, 23, according to the Associated Press.

Lueck was last seen June 17 by a Lyft driver who picked her up from the Salt Lake City airport and dropped her off at a park, where she reportedly met with someone in a car. Police now believe that man was Ajayi, 31.

Ajayi was arrested without incident Friday morning.
