Ha! No.

Plumbers, gardeners, electricians, use them, not to mention homeowners.

They have hundreds of different uses, ones that don’t involve kidnapping someone.

Thanks! ..... Scientia potentia est

Since she met him in the middle of the night, texting the "day before" would be any texts before midnight. Texting "on the day" would mean after midnight.

AA told LE he was texting her at 6pm, which would technically be "the day before."

My question was about the part the media source states: "police (...) have not said if he (AA) was the person who picked her (ML) up at the park."

It sounded to me (as a non english native speaker) that they were implying that someone else might have picked her up. I got it right i guess... but as @ClaireNC said, it's sensationalism, and i now agree with her. After re-reading the article i found more misleading info.

They said her "arms" were bound behind her back with a zip tie and rope. I honestly don't think they'd say it if they really mean they drew this conclusion from the position of her arms and the presence of remnants of those items. It's too much to offer a defense team who will later say, he burned a bag of trash that was zip tied and an old rope was in the trash. Or something like that.

I really don't believe they would offer that info unless it's exactly how they found her and they have the pictures of that finding that will be introduced into evidence.
Yes, I understand. I don't think there is any doubt that she was bound by zip ties and rope. I'm just trying to make sense of how the plastic material and the rope did not burn at such extreme temperatures. The fire was hot enough and burned long enough to result in a charred body.
It could be that the plastic melted and then hardened again, remaining on her hands. They said her hands were bound behind her back with zip ties and rope, but I'm not sure they said she was found that way with them intact. It seems pretty amazing that the rope wouldn't burn up enough to come loose, or come off partially, unless it was made of nylon, I guess.

Anyway it probably doesn't matter, as either way her arms would stay in that position when burned, and just finding the remnants attached to her wrists would be evidence enough, that was the point I was trying to make.

Of course he could try to say he was burning other garbage, but I doubt there is any evidence of that, either.
I wasn't trying to imply that there was not rope or zip ties involved. Just that it's all they would need to come to that conclusion. Imo

She seems to have been a lovely girl who got way too confident about her ability to manage men. Clearly an escort aka Sugar Baby. Only one reason to hookup at 3am in a park, not victim shaming at all...just facts. I joined Seeking Arrangement, it is clearly P4P site. Not in any way a nice site. I had 14 messages in the last hour from sketchy men.

What is the significance of the buckles and charred black fabric I wonder. Maybe from her clothing..belt? Buckles is just an odd term as opposed to fasteners or buttons.

" In an alleyway adjacent to Ajayi's home, investigators found charred black fabric, buckles and other items of value that belonged to Lueck."

ETA because I hit enter too soon

RE: VA loans. If he joined 6 years ago and finished AIT 6 months later, he will be eligible 6 months from now. Benefits kick in upon graduation, not counting from the day of enlistment.

Also clarifying that the VA itself does not give loans, they secure them but still come from a regular lender like any other home loan. There's no way you could convince a bank to give you a VA loan without proof.
Welcome to Weblsleuths, Patch Tuesday. :) Glad to have you with us.

I had the same thought! Someone pointed out both her bag and suitcase had buckles and black fabric. I think the photo might be in the media thread.

What does P4P mean?

Im sure his defense is already getting a “team” of expert attorneys in place to represent this creep. Sadly, I’m pretty sure they will take this to trial most likely a jury consultant will advise to choose a predominately African American jury like the OJ trial and we all know how that went. Presently, there seems to be so much hate amongst people of color, hispanics, and along with immigration its so heated which is really sad because of this its easy to get sidetracked if defense makes this about race, planted evidence and her looking for SD’s. We know that’s not what this is about. It’s about a killer violently murdering a 23 year old college student. Attorneys will throw it all out there hoping something sticks. I’m sure his team are with AA 24/7 strategizing and comforting him telling him don’t worry we will do the best we can to get an acquittal. Don’t accept a plea deal.

I pray to God they offer AA a plea deal and he takes it but honestly he’s narcissistic I think hes willing to risk and go the whole 9 yards with a trial. I don’t want her family and friends going through this victim shaming trial. I think if they do it’s going to get really ugly.
I've been staying away from the race conversations here, but just wanted to point out what is likely obvious to some but not all: AA was from Africa.

Technically, he's "African-American" I suppose, since he is a citizen, but he is not culturally the same as "African-Americans" who have been here for generations and generations and generations (and longer). He is not from the same cultural group just because he had dark skin.

I don't think most Americans are going to automatically identify with him based on his skin color and I don't think that should be the assumption.

Has anyone shared the news story with genius trying to pick up women using the church directory yet? Sorry if we have already, I didn’t recall seeing this one here: https://ksltv.com/417600/ayoola-ajayi-the-online-persona/

That guy was relentless.
Wow, great article. Thank you! Some parts I found notable:

[...]

KSL Investigator Brittany Glas spoke to the women who have reported “concerning interactions” with Ajayi in recent years. Those women who interacted with Ajayi online say he painted a very different picture than what they experienced in their interactions with him.

While most of the women were not comfortable interviewing on-camera, the women told KSL they communicated with Ajayi on various social platforms, including Tinder, Snapchat, and Mutual, among others. At some point, the women all say Ajayi crossed a line.

North Park Police Investigate Ajayi for Rape Complaint

In November 2014, a reported rape victim – an adult woman – made a complaint against Ajayi with the North Park Police Department, saying she did not want to pursue charges against him, but that she wanted the assault on file “in case he did the same thing to someone else.”

[...]

In July 2012, Utah State University Police arrested Ajayi for possession of stolen property – a class B misdemeanor. However, there is no longer any record of the case, which may explain why the charge didn’t show up in the criminal history search.

Cache County officials we spoke with say the best explanation is the case was expunged, meaning – it’s as if it never happened.

In the USU PD report, police said Ajayi was using a stolen iPad that was “full of his information and apps.” Police reviewed the iPad and learned he was using it to find a “female as a prospect to marry to keep from being deported.” That is – even though court records show he was already married to a woman named Tenisha Jenkins Ajayi – and had been, since June 2011. Public records show the two were married in Dallas, Texas.

[...]

Days before Lueck’s murder, Ajayi asked out a woman he didn’t know via text after retrieving information through “Tools” app

In the most recent instance KSL Investigators have discovered prior to his arrest, Ajayi texted a woman he didn’t know to ask her out.

SV is friends with that woman. Vranes says Ajayi obtained her friend’s cell phone number through a church directory app.

[...]

Ajayi was on the roster of the same Salt Lake-area mid-singles ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as both women. Ajayi was legally married when he joined.

[...]

“I was shaking when I found out, when I saw that. I knew he had asked my friend out, but I realized that it was on June 5th that that happened. It shook me and a lot of my girlfriends in the ward,” SV explained. “He said, ‘Hey, like, I haven’t talked to you at church. I’m just really shy. But maybe we can get to know each other and I can take you out.’ She was like, ‘No, thanks.’”

[...]

Fact-Checking the Suspect’s Online Resume and/or Online Inconsistencies

Scanning his LinkedIn profile online, KSL has been able to confirm with Dell that Ajayi was an employee at the company’s Draper, Utah, office. However, as of July 2019, company representatives say he is no longer employed there. Dell would not release his dates of employment.

Ajayi was also a contract employee at Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake, where he worked in IT. He worked at Goldman for the contracted company from September 2017 through August 2018.

We also now know that although Ajayi claims to have attended London South Bank University, student services and registry teams for the college confirm Ajayi was not a student there.

Great point. We also learned with the charging documents that he isn’t a citizen... so I think we need to refer to him as African.

That said, he’s a monster regardless of the color of his skin and I am SO HOPEFUL a jury sees that.

When a person is speaking publicly, and wants to limit a sentence to a reasonable number of words (unlike when I type here, ha), they will choose a relevant word like "buckles" and not say, buckles, fasteners and zippers. The buckle may be in his mind because it is metal and survived and is identifying, so the LE emphasized that.

I assume that the metal parts of her suitcase were found as well, etc. The charred black fabric is likely her backpack. He wants people to know that there's still way more work to be done. It's pretty irrelevant, though, in the face of DNA. But members of the public may not understand DNA properly, so something like an identifiable belt buckle...gives everyone an idea of what DA used to charge this guy (so that the lawyer on the East Coast can't say it was simply due to his skin color).
