I do not mean naive in an offensive way, I mean it in the way you say, that when we are young we do not always make the wisest choices or as well thought out ones as we may do when older. That in no way is putting this on her. Who would EVER expect to meet a monster like this one? He somehow stayed under the radar for years. I think what often plays in our youth too is never believing anything will happen to us, we feel somewhat invincible.

I cannot even begin to imagine what her family is going through. Loss is hard enough without such details of a crime such as this.

Na is be when I was young did not equal someone out there to murder. Today the GenZ's can not afford to be naive. Too much evil by others they are not playing around. I hope this story can be known to colleges and other places to get the word out about being safe.

SLC Police weigh in on ‘voluntary missing persons’ case and why police stopped investigating

A few months ago, Salt Lake City Police encountered issues similar to those that San Jose police have run into — the person they were looking for was an adult and had the right to not be found.

In the case of both MacKenzie Lueck and Valenti, the situation was much more serious.

Horrocks said anyone under the age of 21 is automatically put in the National Crime Info Center (NCIC).

Over the age of 21 requires police to look at the circumstances surrounding the missing person to determine where they should focus their efforts.

In case of MacKenzie Lueck, retired Unified Deputy Police Officer Chris Bertram said police did not take the case seriously in the beginning.

“If it wasn’t for the friends of MacKenzie, I don’t think this case would have gotten the scrutiny it needed to get right away,” he said.

*Preliminary Hearing (re child case) (@ am MT) - UT – MacKenzie “Kenzie” Lueck (23) (June 17, 2019, Salt Lake City, reported missing June 20, 2019, found June 26, 2019 charred female human tissue & bone, part of her scalp with hair, burned cell phone & personal belongings (clothing) burned & buried in his Salt Lake City backyard; body found July 3, 2019 in Logan Canyon (about 85 miles north of Salt Lake City).) - *Ayoola Adisa Ajayi aka “Joy” & “AJ” (31) arrested & charged (6/28/19) & formally charged (7/10/19) with criminal homicide 1st degree felony aggravated murder, 1st degree aggravated kidnapping, 2nd degree desecration of a body & 3rd degree obstruction of justice. Held without bond.

8/26/19 Update on scheduling conference hearing – next hearing on 10/7. 10/7/19 Update: The judge scheduled a two-day preliminary hearing for March 11–12, 2020. Evidence will be presented at the preliminary hearing to see if the case will advance to trial.
*Charged (8/13/19) with 19 counts of possessing child .
8/13/19 Update: An additional 19 charges were filed Tuesday of possessing child . The images are mostly of children between the ages of 4 and 8 years old, the charges state.
8/23/19 Update: Preliminary hearing on 9/9. 9/9/19 Update: Next preliminary hearing on 10/21.
*Charged (8/20/19) with 1st degree felony aggravated kidnapping & 3 counts of 2nd degree felony forcible sexual abuse. No plea entered.

9/26/19 Update: Third District Judge Vernice Trease accepted the two-page statement over the objection of Ajayi’s defense attorney Neal Hamilton, who said it was inconsistent with the woman’s initial statement to investigators. A written testimony from victim entered. Trease said she would allow Ajayi’s attorneys more time to work on a subpoena, but that doesn’t mean she’ll require the woman to testify. The judge also did not immediately rule Thursday whether the statement provides evidence for the case to go to trial. Waived his right to a speedy trial. Hearing (for assault) is scheduled to continue Nov. 27, when Ajayi will have a chance to testify in his own defense.

Thanks for update. I've really given the house no thought -- blanked it from my memory...

I guess that tells us that he's managed to stay out of foreclosure thus far, and either no intention of selling, or he sold home privately without advertising to rental property investor.

The reason I also don't think he's missed any payments /been in default is because an individual incarcerated for capital murder would barely need to miss one payment for mortgage holder to run, not walk, to enforce their default provision and rid themselves of him, and their lending relationship with him.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything further on the child case.

In the Sexual Assault case, a preliminary hearing was held Sep 26, AA waived his right to a speedy trial, and the hearing was continued to Nov 27. Judge hasn't ruled yet whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

There was a scheduling conference Oct 7 in Kenzie's Murder case and AA is scheduled to appear for a two-day preliminary hearing Mar 11-12, 2020.

It looks like MacKenzie Lueck's accused killer is trying to rent out his house

People who live next door to Ayoola Ajayi, the man charged with the murder of University of Utah Student MacKenzie Lueck, were surprised to see a "for lease" sign on the the front lawn of his house.

TC, who lives right next door, said he can't imagine it will draw tenants.

"It's a very creepy feeling. I still struggle being next door to that house," Camomile said.

While Utah law is very clear that a property owner does not have to disclose whether a property is "stigmatized" during a sale, the same law does not address rental properties.

2News called PMI Property Management, the company listed on the sign on Ajayi's property. Two employees who answered the phone said they had no idea about the murder case/investigation, and said the sign would be removed from the property.

About five hours after that phone call, two people showed up to the property and removed the sign. 2News spotted them as they walked away from the property with the sign. They yelled out that they were never in a formal agreement to manage the property.

Just amazed how a crime has been committed on property yet the owner is allowed to lease or sell while incarcerated.

I am amazed that the rental company could be so oblivious. PMI appears to be a large franchise operation, but unless the newspaper called the main office and not the SLC office, you would think they'd be aware of the house's notoriety. It only requires the most basic online search, and it's certainly something the new occupants would soon learn of and possibly be extremely unhappy about if it weren't disclosed/known to them in advance.
