I'm still open to this person she met at the park being a female.
It's very unlikely, but females can be very vengeful or jealous.
Heck, I just think this is someone she knows.
Not casting aspersions on anyone at all.
Also it could be someone like a professor or an aide.
When the cell phone records come in, I think LE will get their break.

Eta I'm tired of discussing the sb sd thing.
ML did not appear dressed for anything like that and I've never trusted gossiping rumor-mills very much in these cases

I see that now. I should know not to post without reading the context!

El Segundo, CA, right next to LAX and less than a 2-hour flight from SLC, although I believe she has relatives in UT.

So many alarming things about this whole thing.

My first thought was an emotional breakdown, after the trauma of losing such a close family member,on top of exams and an upcoming wedding, that also involved travel, expense, time away from work and school. And grief, it can make you behave in ways that are not always in your best interest.

But it's clear to me there is something much more sinister going on here. I don't find it so unusual for her to meet up with someone before heading to her house after her flight, no matter the time, she may have wanted some down time, or even some space to not think about her loss, before heading home. It's been stated that this was traumatic for her. The fact that this person has not, as far as we know, come forward, is very telling.

And trust me, the dude you buy your weed (Or whatever) from is not going to meet you in a park in the middle of the night and then give you and your luggage and your bag of weed(or whatever) a ride home. Ridiculous.

If it was someone who was doing things they shouldn't have been doing, they could have quietly gone to LE and cleared themselves and requested their identity be withheld. LE could say, we have ID'd the person met in the park and this person is not a POI or suspect. Period, the end.

This was someone she knew well enough to meet in the wee hours in a park, and willingly get into a car with and didn't indicate any hesitation/distress per the Lyft driver.

As others have said, I also have did some incredibly stupid and dangerous things in my 20s, but I wouldn't have met someone in a park at that hour unless I was really comfortable with them. Really really comfortable. Even grief stricken, if it was a stranger, that's be a big no.

All MOO
Spot on. And JMHO, but I don't think a park that is closed after hours and located fairly close to a police station is the best location to be selling or buying illegal drugs.

Here's what I've been thinking. She put her suitcase in this person's car. To me, that's a strong indication that this is a person she knows. IMHO, it would be highly unusual for a person to 1) meet someone for the first time at 3AM and 2) to do so after just arriving at the airport with a suitcase.

I think that LE will be able to solve this once they get access to the contacts on her phone, assuming she has only one phone. MOO

If Kenzie met up with a person who insisted on complete discretion, I wonder if this person also arranged to communicate with her in some untraceable manner. And more so if this person had nefarious intentions.
I hope I'm wrong and that the analysis of all cell phone records does offer solid info.

Could it be as simple as Kenzie arrived so late, was still upset and just wanted to talk to someone? Maybe she didn't want to wake up her roommates barging in at 3:00 am.

I don't think this HAS to be about drugs or dates, but the problem I have is. if this was an innocent, hang out, vent and cry session, why hasn't the person come forward???
I don’t know about most of you but when I land after an early morning flight I just want to get home ASAP and crash in my bed

She's obviously an intelligent girl that had an emotional few days with her grandma's passing. I personally think she went to meet someone she was truly missing while she was gone, and thought would cheer her up. For that to be her first destination as soon as landing so late at night, I think she truly liked the person she went to meet, and had nothing to do with money or any type of submission beyond her having missed this person.

I’m feeling very afraid for her at this point - would like to hope she will be returned safely but the silence is deafening IMO - now if she’s being held let’s hope she can get herself away like others have done / praying for her family. Reading the article upthread that her phone has been off since last Monday is a bad sign- JMO
Also thanks for keeping the media thread updated and current @PommyMommy and @Seattle1 - this missing girl is tough for me

I hate to say it but I don't have much faith left that she is alive. :( I hope that she is, but I get this vibe that something really bad happened. I hope I'm wrong.

If the phone doesn’t break this open, I’m confident that her social media and dating apps will.

There may not be a call or text record, but that might not even matter.

It would make sense it was a female she met at park if she got her own bags.

I don’t know why people think this podcast is so great? There is nothing new in that podcast.

One or two new things, but an awkwardly constructed and delivered podcast for sure.

I now strongly suspect that this case turns on its social media relationships. My hope is that there's still time for a positive resolution.

Are you 23, though? She opted to go to the park for a reason, JS

I think this is a very real possibility.

I still think that’s an incredible stretch, and unlikely based on the facts as we know them.

That still image captured a tiny moment in time.

I’m sure someone could go through those videos, and find stills that show nearly every human emotion, none of them a genuine reflection of what she was feeling at the moment.

Anything is possible of course, but I think this is simple.

She met up with someone she had previously interacted with, and something went wrong.
I agree and I’m sad for this - hope I’m wrong but this seems like a plan by whoever she met IMO

Humor me. I'm trying to think out of box.....

Suppose Kenzie attracted an admirer, who she met in LA this weekend. Perhaps at Gerry's funeral. Perhaps in a bar or something afterward. Brief conversation. Gave them her phone number, just to get them off her back.....FIgures she will never see them again. They casually ask when she is going back to Salt Lake. She tells them.
Then....to her surprise....she sees him Sunday night, as she arrives in the SLC airport.
She would be surprised and more than a little nervous (notice the photo with her hand on chest) But perhaps he did not approach her at all. He does not wish to be seen talking to her, of course....
So they are texting.

They make arrangements, over the phone, to meet somewhere. Perhaps near the hotel he has booked.... in a park.
This could all happen, and airport CCTV wouldn't have any record of it.
It was all on phone.

What photo with her hand on her chest?

I respectfully disagree, @MassGuy .
Look at what was different about Kenzie's weekend from her typical weekend. One main thing was different:
Grandmother's funeral/travelled to LA.
We start there.
Someone she met in Los Angeles that weekend. Never met before.
He could be from LA or he could be a foreign traveller but they met either on plane or in LA.
Kenzie gives him her number. Figures she will never see the guy again. A brief encounter.
He asks casually, When do you return to SLC? She tells him....
He shows up at airport Sunday night.

Have all roommates and sorority sisters been accounted for that Monday morning?

Like a specific person that you know? Or someone vague like an ex, best friend etc.

Someone who has or had a relationship with ML. I'm not saying that my speculation is right, but I definitely have a POI in mind. Just MOO
