Exactly! I don't understand why 5 years is such a huge red flag for some. Many colleges don't have a direct admit nursing program so you spend 2 years getting your re-reqs done and pray you get accepted right away in to the nursing program otherwise you are looking at 5+ total years of college.
Many college students take a year to figure out what they want to even do so if they change career paths then it ends up adding college time.
Also, if she was by chance getting a minor in anything then that is going to add school time. Your semesters as a nursing student are so jammed pack that many students will take summer classes to lighten their load for the school year....add a minor degree on top of this and you for sure are looking at 5-6 years.
We also spent several pages last thread discussing her large roll aboard suitcase I’m not surprised the college thing is still going on JMO FWIW I posted that large bag might be her only one and college takes awhile here in the US esp on busy campuses where some seniors have to wait a year for their final class to be offered due to scheduling JMO

Wait a sec.

Could this mean she never actually met a SD??

Could meeting SD in person be a new thing for her? If so, I think it's all the more likely this was someone she didn't know.

She might have thought she was experienced but I think she was in over her head.

But would like to clarify if "online only" was from awhile ago and later changed to in-person exchanges.

jmo
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The person she met could have been someone she never actually met, but seemed to be familiar with since they had been "interacting" for several months online. This would also explain why her friends didn't know for sure if she actually had an SD. It might also explain why, even if they knew she was sending videos to a stranger, they would be reluctant to give out that information.
Imo

If there have been incidents in that park and they were unable to pull camera footage that might be one way this would be known but it’s an awful risk if you truly are wanting to stay hidden IMO

True. I was asking more along the lines of who would officially have known this? An employee of the city? Etc.

Even if Lyft driver is innocent it was completely irresponsible of him to not take notice of the surroundings at the park and ask her questions while being in the back seat especially giving a young pretty girl a ride to a dark vacant park that time of morning. That’s the Mom in me I guess

The driver may have told LE much more but they just aren’t telling us. I’ll repeat what someone said in one of the prior threads ( sorry don’t remember who!) since ML wasn’t reported missing for a few days later, his memory may not of been as sharp. No doubt he probably found it odd.

She and the driver conducted what amounted to a business transaction.

She requested a service (ride to a specific location), and the driver agreed to provide that service.

The job of the Lyft driver is not to be a babysitter. Mackenzie is a grown woman with her own free will.

The driver’s job was to uphold his end of the deal, and deliver her safely to where she wanted to go.

Now, if I was the driver, I would have done what you suggest.

But he still did nothing wrong.

I wonder if anyone has knowledge of actual time to drive from airport to the park??

True. At my local college, Registered Nursing program waiting list is 1.5 semesters to 2 years.

Yes the parks mgr or purchasing agent for the city/county - anyone searching public records to see if a RFQ (request for quotes or bids) has been let by the city or county - real camera systems are expensive fakes- not so much IMO

Just wondering who would know that the cameras in the park were fakes? Was this common knowledge in the area or only information certain people would have? Just thinking out loud.
Best guess is only a few city workers would have known - public works people, police, council, mayor - so some subset of that.

Has anyone considered that maybe she was meeting up with someone from school? If she had been out of town and had a midterm the next day, maybe she was going to do some last minute studying or pick up notes she missed? Maybe a classmate that got the wrong idea?

Any chance whomever picked her up was also tired/a good friend, and maybe they got in an accident somewhere? Anywhere a car could go in the water? Not to be depressing, but I am hoping for any scenario where some creep doesn't hurt or kill her.

Why would an SD show up for this meeting...there's nothing in it for him. In that one photo she looked puffy faced and somewhat down. Now if she verbally communicated with her SD he might have picked up on her emotional state and blown off the meeting. If that's the case then the game is on...

That's extremely alarming. That brand of car has a distinctive look but i can 100% see why it would be hard to tell to what it is in the dark.

Per Google, 17 - 18 minutes. Google Maps

Actual time, per LE: 17 minutes

2:42 a.m. Lyft taken from airport
2:59 a.m. Lyft arrived at Hatch Park

Taking longer to finish college isn't a red flag for me.

I do see her as less serious than I remember being at that particular stage and what I see in other students I know at that particular stage on their college career. I don't think she was bummed about being in school longer at all, but I think she sees herself as a cute co-ed and is perfectly fine with that image and lifestyle. I think she considers herself as doing quite well. Observation only, no judgement, getting a feel for her personality and interests.

imo.

I find it strange her parents are still in Cali. Does anyone else?
No, I don't find it at all strange. There is nothing they can do in Utah at this point, and it might be better for them to be at home where they are most comfortable, have their set routines, and can be surrounded by their friends and family. What could they possibly do in Utah? They are only 1 1/2 hours away by air. They can go to Utah for the weekend if they want to canvas the area or talk to Kenzie's college friends. MOO

The driver would have been on guard in case he was driving into a trap... at that location at that time of night. And to continue beating the horse, did he help move that big bag between vehicles and why can't he give us any descriptions? Were his phones checked? Just a bit more investigative work here couldn't hurt...

Yup. I posted that a thread or two ago.

Absolutely! He is not an armed bodyguard.
