<modsnip> Tho she does have a job as well as Uni so not everything is given to her.
She is young stunningly beautiful could choose whoever she wanted to be with.
If it was someone she knew well and cared for her you would think she would be collected her from the airport.
Somewhere to do something i don,t get not going home and driving there in her car so that she would have transport to ger home after whatever she planned to do.

Yeah, probably not everything handed to her, but flights home for a funeral and for a wedding? Most likely paid for by the parents. Don't think that has much bearing on the case, but it was mentioned.

Hoping this is voluntary and perhaps she doesn't realize how much consternation she's causing. Kids often don't realize how much parents worry. My son's visiting his girlfriend several miles and a few freeways away, spent the night there. I texted him and asked if he was coming home today and he replied that they were out for a few drinks so he wouldn't be home until much later. My alarm bells went off and I told him to stay another night or Uber home and he could get the car tomorrow. He hasn't responded to that, so I'm sitting here worrying that he's going to drive home tonight. He most likely has no idea I'm obsessing over that comment of his. Of course, Kenzie's situation is more serious, but sometimes young adults just don't think.

I agree that anything is possible and that is why the need for urgency is so very important in this matter. As a mother I can only imagine what this girl's parents are feeling. I suppose I can't help but get drawn into their feelings of panic. This needs to solved soon.

I’m glad you feel this way because you are pretty spot on with most of your posts in the various threads! Are you leaning towards voluntarily missing at this point?

I am.

That could change with more information, but I’m not seeing indications that something bad happened.

I think the fact that she didn’t immediately return home after her flight, to be an odd decision.

Law enforcement knows where she went, yet they seem relatively unconcerned.

They’ve talked to the Lyft driver, and certainly would have talked to whoever it was she went to see (if it was a person).

If there were any inconsistencies, then they should be approaching this more aggressively.

They’re not.

I guess LE could be keeping things quiet on purpose. I just have a hard time with her missing work and a final exam without a word to anyone! But as a parent of one that is her age, I would be freaking out right now! MOO

I'm confused. Why are they searching at Liberty Park and asking if anyone has seen anything suspicious when she went to North Salt Lake? She lives by Liberty Park (however, I wont disclose her address for her roommates sake) which can be a pretty sketchy area. I might head over there to see if I can get more information and help out. (Also, I apologize for popping up randomly. I'm just a fellow University of Utah student who has been tracking this thread because my friends know her. I don't know her and I have never met her.)

It would be so much easier to figure out what happened, if we knew her mental state at the time she went missing.

Did she argue with her parents?

Was she deeply effected by her grandmother’s death?

How were her grades?

Any relationship issues?

Clarity here, would provide clarity to the entire picture.

Her mental state in the days immediately leading up to her disappearance is what I'm wondering about the most right now.

I'm very, very curious about her grades.
I also wonder whether or not she's been attending all of her classes regularly this semester and/or
whether there's been a change in terms of her academic performance recently.

My sense is that we may be looking at some type of mental health crisis brought on by any number of contributing factors.

She got in at 1am and went to a destination in North SLC instead of home

Police are saying they don't believe she is in danger.

She had just come from her grandmother's funeral this weekend.

Work and finals awaited her. As well as another trip away for a wedding this coming weekend.

That sounds like an unusually tiring, stressful, busy, emotional couple of weeks.

I honestly think she's taking a break/had a mental break.

Missing classes & work is out of character for her....but the Lyft ride to a different destination vs. straight home was apparently out of character for her as well, and she did that voluntarily (as far as we know)

New article:

Salt Lake City police Sgt. Brandon Shearer said Saturday that the car took Lueck from the airport to North Salt Lake — the municipality in Davis County. Shearer declined to provide an address.

“We’ve confirmed with Lyft, the app, that’s where she requested to go, and with the driver that that’s where she did go,” Shearer said.

“We don’t have anyone searching any particular area right now," Shearer said, "because we don’t have any credible evidence of where she might be.”

There’s no evidence Lueck is in danger, Shearer said, “other than the fact she hasn’t been heard from.”

<Snipped>

Fine (sorority sister) said she didn’t know why Lueck would go to North Salt Lake or anywhere other than home. Fine assumes Lueck was meeting someone, but doesn’t know who. Lueck had no significant other, Fine said.

Welcome to Websleuths, sueyoo. We appreciate locals here! :)

I don't think they were searching the park, but meeting up there to distribute flyers in the area. I also think this was planned and posted as a Facebook event before it was learned that ML's Lyft destination was in North Salt Lake. MOO

Police have not been searching for Lueck in North Salt Lake because they have no evidence she remained there, Shearer said.

Interesting updated article.

LE could not possibly be signaling any more clearly that they believe ML is voluntarily missing at this point.

I don't buy that the fact nobody's heard from her doesn't mean she isn't in danger. If her family are worried and say it's out of character shouldn't that count for something? I'm worried that the police are being way too lax about this.

I know adults have the legal right to "disappear", and I hope that is what she's done. Maybe the police know she's using her bank accounts? But if this is a "mental break" then there's another outcome I'd start to be worried about.

From the link that @MassGuy found:

Friends try to find missing woman Mackenzie Lueck with questions and Lauren McCluskey on some minds

". . .As people searched for Lueck, some said the case of another woman who studied at the U. was on their minds.

Lauren McCluskey, 21, was killed on campus Oct. 22 by a man she briefly dated. McCluskey had reported to campus police that the man, Melvin Rowland, had been extorting her. A detective did not investigate the case, or determine Rowland was a sex offender who was on parole, before the killing.

Rachael Palmer, who graduated in May and also was in Alpha Chi Omega with Lueck, was handing out flyers as she noted the demographics linking her sorority sister and McCluskey. Palmer was trying to stay optimistic, pointing out that no one knows where Lueck is, much less whether she was the victim of domestic violence. . ."

Kenzie’s friends say she lives in SLC and they can’t think of any reason why she’d go to North Salt Lake, especially at that hour. They’ve been handing out fliers around town. They’re hoping someone knows something and calls police.

Have you seen MacKenzie Lueck? We’re working on this for @KSL5TV at 10. @slcpd say she landed in SLC early Monday morning and took a Lyft ride to somewhere in North Salt Lake. She hasn’t been seen since. Police say driver is cooperating and is not under investigation.

BBM:

I agree that if she's in the throes of some type of mental/emotional/behavioral crisis, it's a concern.

If that's the case, though, LE doesn't want to do anything to further exacerbate the situation.

If ML did go voluntarily missing, it's not going to be easy for her to come forward at this point.

LE may be trying to dial down the rhetoric so that ML will reach out and let them know she's okay.

I'm confident LE's still working to develop leads on her current whereabouts.

I'm equally confident they'll be successful at locating her.

Obviously people do missing voluntarily as we saw with Jill and Jordon Rousseau just this week. Still, I think that is the exception and not the case here either. JMO

Well, has there been any mention of her cell phone or tracking it?

That being said, I had room mates and suite mates in college who never went to class and would just disappear for weeks at a time...

EDIT: Ok just saw where her phone was turned off. Interesting...

This reminds me of both the Kelsey Berreth and Cheryl Coker cases, in terms of LE thinking they weren't in danger and left on their own. Now both women, since Thanksgiving (Kelsey) and October (Cheryl) have yet to be found. Heartbreaking!

Was her final destination at a building, as say an apartment? Or in front of a convenient store? Why the vague details of her last destination?

Also...JMO but yeah that is weird to not go home first...at least to drop her stuff off and get fresh clothes etc. Makes it sound like she didn't want to go back to real life just yet. I'm someone who is more on the cautious side and I especially don't like it when others downgrade a sense of urgency...but...hmmmm
