Salt Lake City Police report they are in connection with Mackenzie Lueck’s Lyft driver, the last known person to have been with the missing 23-year-old.

At this time, police said they have no reason to believe the driver was involved with Lueck going missing and that he is cooperating with their investigation.

“Not going home to your pets or your roommates, or just dropping your luggage off, that’s very abnormal,” AF said. “Not going to work. Having your phone off for five days now, very very bizarre and alarming.”

Now it seems like she could have arranged with her professors to take her midterms later by telling them she would be at the funeral longer than she actually was. LE doesn't seem worried because they have spoken to those professors who told LE when she said she would be back. Since
I am very familiar with the area of North Salt Lake.
When most local people think of North Salt Lake they think of the area with the oil refinery and a street called Beck Street. There are a few sleazy bars and a few not so bad bars with good food and music . North Salt Lake is considered a low income area. High crime, gang activity, subdivisions. DISCLAIMER: I haven't lived in North Salt Lake for over 30 years so maybe things are better but you would not think of North Salt Lake as a place with a lot of money. There are some really run down and bad areas and other areas are better.

That's how I remember things in North Salt Lake.
North Salt Lake has changed a lot in the past 30 years. The area around Eaglewood Golf Course has many million dollar homes and there is a ton of other new Condos and New Apartment complexes there now too. At that time nothing logical business wise would still be open, so the only logical explanation is that she went to someone's home there. The area where she actually lives near Liberty Park in downtown Salt Lake is far less safe an area than North Salt Lake is now.

Where is Mackenzie Lueck? Here’s what we know about the disappearance of the 23-year-old University of Utah student.
What’s the status of the search?
Salt Lake City police issued a news release Saturday urging the public to help find Lueck saying that “Detectives are concerned for Mackenzie’s welfare.” But in that same release. they said investigators have not “discovered any information that would lead us to believe that Mackenzie has been harmed or is in danger at this time.”

There is no formal search party.

“We don’t have anyone searching any particular area right now," Shearer said, "because we don’t have any credible evidence of where she might be.”

[...]

What about the Lyft driver?
Police have talked to the Lyft driver and have been in contact with the ride-hailing company.

[...]

What do we know about Lueck?
[...]

AF said Saturday that Lueck’s phone has been off since she went missing on Monday and she hasn’t posted on social media. She didn’t show up for work or for her classes. Her car is still at her home and her luggage hasn’t been found.

AF said Lueck doesn’t have a significant other and she didn’t know why she would take a ride to North Salt Lake, instead of going directly to her home.

[...]

How to help?
Anyone with information about Lueck’s whereabouts can contact Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000 and reference case No. 19-111129.

And there’s a Facebook page devoted to the search for Lueck.

A couple thoughts.

I am slightly older than ML, but it would not be unusual for me to go to a guy I’m seeing’s house late at night for some “support.” I know this can be seen negatively but it’s just a statement that this does happen and girls do it just like guys.

Perhaps, if this was not a brand new lover, could she be pregnant and disclose it to this partner? Maybe she’s in danger or maybe she voluntarily hiding while processing how to handle this with her more conservative family?

Lastly, I’m a university professor and can speak to many students attending funerals/having events come up and asking for extensions/turning in things early. I always accommodate. AND my student interactions related to any of their private life, details we’ve arrange, whether or not they attended class or turned in an assignment are protected by law. I legally cannot give out that information about a student without legal request. So it’s possible she did prearrange being gone with her professors but it hasn’t come out yet.

All JMOO.
But if she had made arrangements with her professors, would it still be considered that she missed the exam? Could the prof not say she is scheduled to take the exam on xx/xx date. If it’s in the future, she hasn’t even missed it yet.

If this is the case about talking to her professors, it could have been a way to extend her time to study. Kind of a half way fib, like “I’ve got a funeral, can I take it next week”.

Would it be possible to register as a VI? Unfortunately without that we can not legally discuss heresay and I am afraid your posts may be removed. It’s an easy process, here’s the link:

Not going home to your pets or your roommates, or just dropping your luggage off, that’s very abnormal,” Fine said. “Not going to work. Having your phone off for five days now, very very bizarre and alarming.”

Police said Lueck took a Lyft ride from the airport, but that there were no irregularities in the driver’s route — he went to the destination entered in by the rider.

As far as reaching out to Lueck through social media, Fine said she’s reached out while the media shows she’s active.

“It might show that she is active on social media, but that is not Mackenzie,” Fine said.

Instead, it’s friends and family going through Lueck’s account, she said.

23-year-old University of Utah student missing after Lyft ride

Posted: Jun 23, 2019

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – It’s been nearly a week since the disappearance of 23-year-old University of Utah student Mackenzie Lueck.

“Everyone thinks that there’s danger in this story,” said Ashley Fine, a friend.

On Saturday, friends organized a postering event at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City as a continued effort to try and find her.

Mackenzie hasn’t been seen or heard from since Monday, June 17th.

That’s when she returned from attending her grandmother’s funeral. Friends say it was in Southern California.

That was around one in the morning at Salt Lake City International Airport. Shortly afterward, she took a Lyft ride and reportedly texted her parents she was okay.

Police say she made it to her Lyft destination. That’s where her trail goes cold.

Things aren’t adding up,” said Fine. “She had another trip planned. She didn’t make that trip so far.”

Ashley says the trip was to go back home this weekend to see family in California.

She’s making those plans with friends and family to have plans for the future. I don’t think she would hurt herself or anything like that.”

Ashley has this message for Mackenzie.

“If you’re in a bad situation, please reach out. Reach out to police. We’re really concerned for you.”

Her friends think she is in danger plus she had another trip planned for this weekend.

I understand she might have had boyfriend(s), etc that they weren’t aware of but I’m going to agree with them.

She is not voluntarily missing.

IMO

ETA... This has shades of Kelsey Berreth to me.

"We've been calling her phone nonstop," said Ashley Fine, who says she and Mackenzie Lueck, 23, are "sorority sisters" and have known each other for four years.
“We're millennials. (Not answering the phone) is very, very unusual. Even if you're missing, or you want to disappear, you have to turn your phone on to GPS," said Fine, noting that Lueck's bank account has also been inactive.

~snip

Fine said Lueck lives with roommates near Trolley Square but noted that she has not been in touch with them. "I don't know why she would be going (to North Salt Lake) around 2 a.m. It's just very, very suspicious and dangerous," Fine said.

~snip

Fine said she spoke with Lueck after finding out about her grandmother passing away. "That was my last call and talk with her," she said, noting that she's been in contact with Lueck's family "24/7" through a group chat. "They're extremely, extremely worried about her."

~snip

“I just want to say if she is hearing this or sees this article that we're looking for her. She needs to contact her family. If she's being held against her will, they need to let her go," Fine said.

She could have been seeking drugs in North Salt Lake?
This could be why LE is hush hush about the NSL address: it’s her dealer.
If she has a drug problem she may have either been out of her drug supply, or didn’t want to pack whatever it is in her bag.

  • #437
Here’s another thing.

Kenzie took the time to text her parents as soon as she got off the plane. Why? Presumably so they knew she was safe, etc.

So why would she just take off knowing her parents would be worried?

RSBM

I totally agree with you. MOO.

I think the key to why she went wherever lyft took her, may lie in phone/text records from her phone. I wonder if LE has those yet?

BBM:

This is something I also see as a possibility.

If ML is voluntarily missing, this theory would certainly explain ML making that late-night trip straight from the airport.

I do think it's either a dude or drugs that she was seeking out at the NSLC destination. Perhaps both.

There's a reason LE isn't organizing official searches.

I think LE has a bead on the situation.
I'm paying close attention to what LE's saying here.
I'm also paying close attention to what LE's not saying.

My guess is LE isn't publicly disclosing her last known whereabouts because that location could prove embarrassing to ML, and they don't want to do anything that may potentially discourage her from contacting them.

The last thing LE wants to do is drive her further underground, if she's gone off the grid of her own volition.

JMO.

This worries me. I totally get the friends concern, but I hope the login info has been given to LE. It needs to be investigated properly. I feel there’s a real possibility something unexpected/upsetting will be found in her SM or messages, but LE still needs to know. Whether she has secrets or not, she still deserves to be found. MOO
