Here’s another thing.

Kenzie took the time to text her parents as soon as she got off the plane. Why? Presumably so they knew she was safe, etc.

So why would she just take off knowing her parents would be worried?
Could be to buy herself time. If her parents never heard from her after the flight, they’d worry. Saying she made it “home”, as in SLC, probably gave her parents a sense of safety. That they didn’t hear from her for a few days is understandable because of work, school, exams. If she never contacted them after leaving CA, that would’ve caused concern much sooner. Moo

Exactly.
Something unexpected happened after she was dropped off by the lyft driver.

My opinion is that she voluntarily went to the NSLC location but things didn’t go how she expected and now she’s involuntarily missing. I’m not ruling out a mental health situation yet. But I don’t think she chose to disappear.

Or my other thought is that Kenzie didn’t send that text. Has the time been cross referenced with the landing time?

Mackenzie then took a Lyft to an address in North Salt Lake, Utah, where she was last seen in the early morning hours on Monday.

BBM
Where she was last seen by who? The Lyft driver or ???

The Lyft driver is the last person I have seen mentioned by LE or the Media....moo

BBM:

Great question...one I'm hoping a reporter will pose to LE.

Presumably LE knows who last saw ML since they've been to the drop-off location she gave to the Lyft driver.

LE hasn't disclosed the address, and they haven't named the individual(s), if any, who saw her at that address.

LE hasn't even disclosed whether the address she gave to Lyft was a business, a private residential address, a public location like a park, etc.

Ironically, what LE isn't telling is extremely telling.

I'm sure it has been plus there are cameras at airports plus the lyft driver says he picked her up and took her her requested destination.

When my daughter travels, she texts me when the plane lands and then again when she arrives at home. I wonder if she had a similar routine with her parents or if the one text about the plane landing was normal for them.

I don't think she would go to a very dangerous area just to meet some love interest. JMO.

Ditto, it's one thing to make it to the destination airport, another to make it home. Having said that, my boys will text me when they reach the airport and then forget to text me when they get home. I'll have to text them, and then they respond that they've been home for an hour and are already out. (grrrr)

I just find it so strange that LE won't give ML's Lyft destination. They say there's no search because they wouldn't know where to search. Well, how about the destination in NSLC?

We don't know, of course, but my speculation would be that if their established communication pattern was for ML to send 2 texts, one upon safe landing of the flight and one upon safe arrival back home from the airport,
the parental alarm bells would have started clanging when ML didn't send the second text.

If that was the case, I think her parents would have followed up on not getting a 2nd text and ML would have been reported missing much, much sooner than Thursday.

Give a mom a reason to worry, and she will.

I wonder...

A POSSIBLE scenario...ML requests the Lyft, it arrives as scheduled. She gets in. Someone other than ML takes control of her phone. She probably had recent texts with her parents and they are likely saved under Mom or Dad. Someone sends Mom “I landed, taking a Lyft home, love ya bye”. Driver goes to ML entered destination, saying she’s been dropped off, yet she remains in the vehicle. If I understand correctly, drivers pick and choose their fares. Someone in on the plan “requests” a ride and the Lyft driver “accepts”. Now there’s an alibi for the driver who “continued picking up riders”, it’s “proven” ML was dropped off at her requested locations.

So was the text to parents before she got in the Lyft? Looking back, does the language used sound the way ML texted? When was her phone turned off? After she exited the Lyft? When she entered her destination? Later? Did anyone other than the driver see her exit the car?

There’s just too many unknowns for me to believe anything is true after the plane landed. Imo

Just checking in! Was hoping to find a “located safe” this morning. The longer this goes on, I’m feeling a little more like she’s missing involuntarily. Hoping we get some positive information soon! Keeping her family and friends in my thoughts today!

But if she had made arrangements with her professors, would it still be considered that she missed the exam? Could the prof not say she is scheduled to take the exam on xx/xx date. If it’s in the future, she hasn’t even missed it yet.

For my state (which follows federal and state guidelines), I cannot even acknowledge that a student is in my course without first getting university consent to do so. I am sure in this type of situation the university would allow me to. After that, giving out if she has or hasn’t taken an exam would be even further protected- we are not legally allowed to even tell parents who are paying for university this information. I cannot even email a student their grade through general email- only encrypted email. The protection laws really are deep for students- especially if it is not consider a danger close situation. Now if LE approached me and told me it was danger close and I am of sound mind (and a criminologist!) I would likely technically violate federal law and give up the information knowing it is fairly unlikely ML would come after me OR legal charges would be pressed against me.

I,m sure they have investigated people on the plane also. Young lady upset after grandmas funeral, confiding in a nightmare. Who gives her an opt out go here for this or that.

  • #459
Is it possible someone else was in the lyft with her? (other than the driver) Of course LE would know if this were the case.

  • #460
I’ve never used Lyft or Uber, so I’m not really sure how it all works. Could her drop off location be something as simple as a convenient store or some other public place? And maybe that’s why LE is not sure where to search because it’s not a personal address? Just thinking out loud here... MOO
