Not personally, but it is quite common.

The overwhelming majority of missing people are missing because they want to be.

These are unusual circumstances, but not at all unprecedented.
I don't think she walked away, but one reason might be if she wasn't doing well in classes and wasn't going to graduate on schedule. The heavy.com article states, "She is scheduled to graduate in 2019, she says on Facebook, but her graduation date was not immediately clear." (MacKenzie Lueck: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com)

I was the first person in my family not to graduate college in 4 years. I took 4.5 years, and in my mind, graduating in December instead of June seemed like a failure and it was a stress for me. (In hindsight of course, I think, "who cares!")

Maybe she isn't doing well at school and wasn't prepared for mid-terms and she fled instead of taking them?

I honestly do not think this is what happened (because of the cat and because I don't know anything about her coursework or plans), but something to consider.

I’ll post my theory while we are at it.

IMO she went to NSL to purchase something. I mean this in the most victim friendly way!

Not to make this too personal, but in my much younger, pre-attorney college days it was not at all uncommon to buy and take adderall during exams week. It wasn’t all that uncommon for girls I knew to take it all the time for weight purposes (ie as a diet drug).

I always try to go on my first gut impression and it sticks out to me that she had been traveling so probably had not studied as much as she thought she needed to and was tired. Would have made so much sense back in the day to make a quick stop at your guy (dealer) to pick up some pills on your way home.

Again, I am not suggesting that ML has a drug problem or is a “drug user.” Yes we all know that adderall is a drug but to a college student, it’s not viewed that way.

That’s all my opinion based on the tiny bit of information we have.

ETA: In my theory I think something went wrong when she stopped at the guys house. Maybe a robbery gone wrong or this guy demanded payment other than money and she refused. I think it’s easy as a 20 something middle/upper middle class woman to forget that a person who is selling you something illegal, whether it’s pills or weed, is not someone who can be trusted. Period, end of story.

Don’t bother. You can’t hear a word she is saying. The music drowns out everything.

One other thing, another reason why is call a Lyft as opposed to asking someone to pick me up is bc frankly I just don’t want to inconvenience them. It’s much easier to just take a Lyft. Even when people offer to pick me up, I think about them having to make the round trip. I wouldn’t ask anyone to pick me up at 1am unless it was a significant other. Moo.

There’s music?? That’s a new one...
