Someone mentioned a good book by Scott Peck (about sociopaths which I believe explores the church connection & explains other similarities to MacNeil's behavior). I can't recall the title. If someone knows, I'd appreciate it if it could be posted here. Thank you.
I will not be able to watch today because I will be in trial. Look forward to reading all the comments at the end of the day![]()
Today is my first visit here in 4 months. I feel like I should have the shakes or something after giving it up for so long.
I missed the first few days of this trial, but I did go all the way through thread #3 just now and saw most of the past two days. A few questions/comments in no particular order:
- This trial is really interesting. The styles are opposite what we've seen in Arias and Anthony trials among others. It will be interesting to see how that works out. It makes it a little boring for TV since there are no flamboyant lawyers involved.
- Is someone from Intellus or whatever the company Alexis mentioned going to back up her claim that Michele tracked down Gypsy? The jury should forgive some inconsistencies if they know she got big things like that correct.
- Sabrina did a fine job - you can see Alexis's influence on her in terms of sticking to your guns. Hard to believe she was so composed at such a young age.
- I suspect that some of the tainting that the defense will allege is in part due to the kids realizing more and more how evil their dad was, and so some things that might not have clicked originally they came to realize were important. Most of the kids naturally wouldn't have suspected dad at first, but they all now believe he did it.
- There was a jury question for Gypsy about whether she was introduced to (I think) Rachel at the temple or at home, and she said it was MM's idea to do it at the temple because it would be more peaceful - something like that. In addition to sounding weird on the surface, is there some significance from a Mormon viewpoint about that being at the temple?
- Several people have commented that the prosecution hasn't objected enough. Both sides have been quieter than I expected. For example, the defense let the prosecution completely lead Anna through the testimony about MM saying he could induce a heart attack undetected.
- There are so many things that look suspicious for this monster - it will be critical for the prosecution to tie all that out - with some visual aids - in closing.
- A conviction may be tough since the medical evidence doesn't seem to help. Proving he had a motive to kill Michele won't be a problem however. I hope the jury convicts because a) I believe he did it and b) the jurors will want to kill themselves if they acquit and then learn all the monstrous facts that were not allowed in.
What kind of monster is this????????? He was in such a hurry to get on with "HIS" life with Gypsy that he didn't even give the girls a chance to grieve the loss of their mother as a family. Couldn't wait to start shipping them off. Totally has destroyed their lives.....how cruel.
Question: I thought it was against the law for a doctor to treat family members??? Alexis stated that MM was pretty much their PCP.

Off topic, but during the broadcast of an HLN show last night (late) - which had a group of people acting as a mock jury - one of the women, who seemingly is a criminal defense attorney, denigrated Alexis and claimed the witnesses (and their testimony) were not truthful as a result of coming into Alexis "web". This "web" is presumably a web of lies.
What a noxious comment. Alexis is a lovely young, educated woman who, by all accounts, was attentive to her mother & father during her mom's life, has assumed the care and responsibilities of her young siblings (at great cost to herself as we know MM has not contributed one dime to their support) and, with the personal burden of reflection and examination of the facts, came to the conclusion that her father is culpable of the crime of murder. After reflection and examination the DA reached the same conclusion and the trial is of course proceeding.
For this woman to suggest that those around Alexis are somehow less than reliable because they have come into this diabolical "web" is simply offensive. To impugn Rachel and those who are her family and friends in this manner on national television is inexcusable - particularly by a woman brought on the panel to express a legal perspective.
I suggest that HLN remove this woman from further discussions.
So glad your back. Good sign ya weren't jonesing :floorlaugh: I'll try to answer best I can recall. Your comments are excellent by the way and I agree. It was actually Alexis who retrieved the info off her Dad's phone to track down Gypsy. Passed the info on to her Mom. I don't know if anyone from phone company is on the witness list. I do remember hearing/reading that Martin wanted the girls to go to Temple with him to pray for a Nanny. Voila Gypsy appears.
I don't think it's against the Law. At least not here in Canada. It is just frowned upon. More so with Surgeons. A Surgeon would just never operate on a Family member. Here.
bsk
I just checked the Witness list and it does appear somebody from a phone company will be testifying. Will have to see if it answers your question. Item # 41 on the list.

Reminder Judge said 9 a.m. so it will be 11:00 for those of us in ET
Curious if you've been following the case very much? The original ME ruled her death due to natural causes/myocarditis that can result in sudden death. A subsequent ME ruled the death due to myocarditis plus drug toxicity.
Unsure, but, did Alexis say she accessed Intellus via phone or computer? Intellus could be accessed via smart phone (not sure about back in 2006 or 2007). If she did access the information on computer, those records would still be available and the charges were most likely paid via credit card, so those records would also be available.
