Morning y'all... paying attention to the judge's ruling.

I can never get a feel for how this judge will rule.

I was in court on Friday and the judge said that court would start at 10:00 am MST to allow the jury time to vote this morning. :)

I know LOL Still awaiting your thoughts etc. If your inclined. I realize it's quite an experience. I always found the little nuances interesting when in Court. (Not that I have been a huge amt. of times) I found myself "studying" the key folk while listening. Last Trial I attended was Victoria Stafford's. I sat behind her Mother, Boyfriend and Grandmother. I had a chance to speak to Defense Council and have to say I did really like Dirk Derstine. We rode the elevator and were in line for coffee. I saw the Groupie's who felt a sense of entitlement to be there since they were there every day. etc etc. My most touching moment was Victoria's Dad (Rodney's) Mom came over before Court started. She sat down briefly as she said she liked my coat. God Bless her. She gave me a purple pin and it's in a shadow box in my bedroom. Not to derail the thread but that was just my experience. Oh and of course the pomp and circumstance of Canadian Court attire. Carry on.

What's he saying

Recounting the alleged conversations MM had with his cellmates, and how they are (or not) prejudicial more than probative (sp?). I think he is leaning towards NOT admitting the statements... or I am too asleep and am not understanding it.

"They think I killed 2 or 3 b~~tches" OUT
MM referring to Michele as a b~~tch, IN (corrected on edit)

so the "*****" statements may come in?

3 inmates heard marty call Michele a "*****"

this info is needed for state's case

motion denied - so it comes in

Judge rules that inmate can't say that MacNeill confessed to killing one or two additional women.

  • #550
In a nutshell, the defense filed a motion to keep out the inmate's testimony.

The judge ruled that they can testify that Martin referred to Michelle as a Biotch.

They cannot testify that Martin said, "They think I killed 2 or 3 biotches".

I am always troubled when prosecutors use inmates as witnesses. While they might be telling the truth, their character is in question, always. :moo:

  • #552
They are discussing what "previous charges" can/cannot be used against the inmates

??

  • #553
Can someone tell me who this witness is in relation to this case? They are using his name but the inmate's names can't be used. Help!

They are discussing what "previous charges" can/cannot be used against the inmates

??

That is so they can tell the jurors, so the jurors can decide if they want to believe the inmate testimonies or not.

Muting the speakers for a bit. Hearing about these witnesses is making me even queasier about the State's chances at conviction

Looks like there is extra security in court today for the inmates. One officer seated in audience and 2 at the door.

At this rate, it will be lunch time before the trial starts
