Found Deceased UT - Paul Swenson, 30, American Fork, 27 July 2017

I don't know...difficult for me to believe that a grown man dissappears because his wife is on social media. IMO, he has either met with a bad situation or he left for more selfish reasons. Time will tell...

I agree, I didn't mean to imply that. I guess I was wondering, what if he needed a minute to think and now with all of this attention, could he feel overwhelmed at the thought of returning? Like embarrassment? But I also tend to think something less innocent has transpired only because of the belongings found in his vehicle.

He could have been with someone who didn't know his situation and they left the car for a while and then couldn't return to it cause the police located it.

MSM said his last known location was an O'Reilley's. I wish we knew what he was doing there. Clearly the car was capable of being driven from the auto store to the elementary school it was abandoned at, but why was PS at the store??

I initially thought PS left of his own accord but the car just doesn't make sense there... if he didn't leave of his own accord, why are the videos released asking him to come home focusing on "we love you, we don't care what happened"?

Mod Note

You may discuss the video that the family made that was published in MSM, but anything else found on any family members' SM accounts (including blogs), are off limits.

I missed that MSM said his last known location was an O'Reilly's.
Can you get me the link?

If that's true it's a little odd. They don't stock much for BMW's.

Such a confusing case! I just cannot imagine why there are so few details being released, and why it seems that everyone seems to be expecting to just spot him walking around the city, with some people at the command center even telling people areas to search where he might be "hiding out". That doesn't sound like someone who is missing, right?
Also, regarding the car, it was found parked in a residential neighborhood, (not at the school) and it's my opinion that they would have had better luck just leaving it alone and seeing who returned to it. I am not sure that I understand the difference between "parked" and "abandoned". Often time family and friends can be in denial about things that a person may or may not be into. I.e. The alcohol in the car. The FIL said in a news interview that when Paul left the house he took the wife's car, not his own, which he seemed to think was at least worth mentioning. I am pretty sure he even said it was "weird".
I think there is a lot that the family is not sharing, and that's their right, but I think there is a lot more to the story. It's hard to ask the country to help find him and find finding him, but not reveal any details.
Also I am suspicious about what seems to be a huge lack of police presence. That tells me that there is not a lot of evidence that he is in danger. I hope they find him if he is in trouble, and I hope they leave him alone if he just wants to be alone.

What does Paul do for a living? Have work friends commented about any notable changes in mood or behavior.

I'm right there with you, the lack of police presence or briefings, pressers. This is pretty much all being generated by the family...IMO. More and more I get the sense that he hasn't encountered anything nefarious, foul play wise. And this immense media attention and social media explosion could cause him so much pain/embarrassment that he chooses to stay gone longer than originally planned, make other poor choices, etc...something is up.

What I have found in my personal experience with some of my family in Utah is that they don't want to discuss the not-so-pretty details...and who does right...but they will sugar coat and skim over the realities. Like when my husband's brother relapsed it was "oh he is just working long hours and whatnot"'when in reality he was staying out all hours scoring drugs. And they knew this, but it was more important to them to save face to the world than to even tell our own family the truth. Just a thought. MOO.

I hope that wherever he is, he is safe and has food, water and shelter. My thoughts have been with PS since he first went missing. If it is just him taking a break, I hope he has someone he can trust.

Just a thought--when looking up his name, this thread is one of the first things that pops up. As the case continues to gain attention, it's in our best interest to be mindful with our comments. :)

Thank you guys so much for discussing this case. I first heard about this website through the Morgan Ingram case discussed on Sword & Scale. You've all been great, detail-oriented and sincere.

"American Fork Police said Monday afternoon that Paul may have last been seen riding a bike and wearing a black hat."

I'm confused as to why AF police are on the case if he went missing in south salt lake?

Also NBC reported that the sightings "note behavior consistent with what his wife told us". I find this less than convincing given how vocal the wife has been. Confirmation bias.

New article w more information here: https://www.google.com/amp/fox13now...fork-man-expands-across-salt-lake-valley/amp/

Notable excerpt: "Police say there is no sign of illicit drug use, gang involvement or at this point, foul play. Hundreds of tips have come in and some sightings appear to be legitimate. Nearly all of them would put Paul somewhere in the Salt Lake Valley."

I think it was only mentioned here as a question.
Wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something though!

Wait. Where would he have gotten a bike?? Did he buy it after he left his car? The police don't suspect foul play? Why are they looking for him then and why are we all here discussing it? To me it seems this case might be better left alone for a couple of days.

Something isn't right here. I feel really bad for Paul.

I feel bad for all of them. Until there is more evidence of true distress or dire circumstances, I'm out.

And by that I mean danger. I'm sure they are all feeling very true distress right now :(

The only thing I can get to make sense in my head is Schizophrenia.
If some of these sightings are true and he's hiding because he thinks someone is after him.
I just keep coming back to a psychotic break or Schizophrenia. :dunno:

In the article it states: "may have last been seen riding a bike and wearing a black hat."
While in the video the reporter states "riding a bike or wearing a black hat." I wonder if it's one or both.

I hope they find him soon, especially if he was having a mental health crisis, very concerning.
"When he left that day, his behavior with his wife she described as being strange and not himself...caused her to believe that he may be suffering from a medical condition or mental health crisis," said Sgt. Josh Christensen, American Fork Police Department

Has his occupation been disclosed? I know this was asked previously.
