I do not the rules of our military on accepting foreign citizens into it. It doesn’t seem possible or even feasible that they would take foreign students here on a student visa.

Even a green card would raise Questions in my mind. People are desperate to get that green card, but in my opinion, it is only so they can legally work in this rich country - as many think of the USA..

So, how did this murderer get into the service? With the little that we know of him, I can see where that was a big mistake as he thinks he is “big man”and no one will tell him what to do!

MOO may have changed but going back to the Continental army foreign nationals could join, and work toward citizenship. Brits, Cubans and lots others have become Americans by this path.

Yes, I know this has still been a recent thing because I read an article last year about non-citizens who recently served in our military, in wars, who were later denied citizenship. There was a big uproar about the denials after promises. Until that article, I had never really thought about it.

MOO internal changes to a home - walls and doors that don't affect bearing walls generally don't need a permit. Sounds like he he needed a contractor to build those changes though. MOO suggest the police offer amnesty to any unlicensed contractor that did building work for him.

When he used the word “nexus” referring to the suspect, I assumed he was using it to show that many facts/pieces of evidence pointed to him as the nexus of the disappearance of ML. I didn’t get the impression that he was referring to other people. But of course that’s a possibility.

I've been gone a few days, but wanted to write out some thoughts that came to me over the weekend. Keep in mind, these thoughts are my own as a Salt Lake local and information security professional.

First - why her phone quit sending data at 3 am.
There's been a ton of discussion on this and possible reasons why, including taking the phone, killing her instantly, a third person, etc. Being in my field (infosec), I was thinking through how to cease data exchange without the person realizing what is happening. You'd accomplish this with a cell phone jammer, and you can easily purchase a hand-held one online. This would also jam his phone and potentially kill tracking of both devices. Going further, he could have claimed "oh, my phone won't connect either, must be an outage" or something similar.

Second - and this has to do with my first point, is cameras.
Utah has a commuter camera system in place up and down Interstates 15, 215 and 80. There's even cameras on some surface streets. I do not know how sophisticated the cameras are on the backend, but, I do believe at that time in the morning, if the police knew where to look, they could potentially track his vehicle. His home is located not far from a major intersection with on-ramps and off-ramps to I-15 and would easily be noticed on the camera footage. Even without his cell phone pings to track, there's potential here to track via video.

Third - this goes with the second point.
Utah police use plate scanners, which effectively scan a given area for license plate numbers and return results for violations, such as expired registration, etc. This technology allows police to aggregate plate data that could place a given vehicle at the scene of the crime.

The reason I think two and three are viable, is because LE required specific information to get the warrant for his home that they obtained. They're precise, and they had to have a strong belief that he was involved, the home was a crime scene and that specific things would be found there.

17. 2017 - AA received unemployment benefits
18. 2017 or 2018 – AA purchased home at 547 N 1000 W, Salt Lake City UT

MOO I think likely he may have been awarded a scholarship to USU by LDS while in Nigeria.

That would have lasted only so long. In my experience the student visa is only good for six months.
You have to prove you are still a student before you can extend the visa for another six months. Unless things have changed, of course.
I think he tried this for as long as he could and then when it did not work out he went for the marriage route. After or in between the army route. Imo

They said the house itself was a nexus to the case, which means they viewed it as the central focus of the investigation. After finishing the execution of that search warrant, they were proven correct.

Yes, this word is sticking with me in this case and it was an unusual choice of a word to me. It was kind of spun that he was saying there was a nexus that related this case to this house, perhaps how she knew him, etc. Even then, I take that to have more meaning. Imo.

I did not look at it so much in the visual way, I am simply taking that word and the other facts of this case, the knowledge we have of some possible activities, lifestyles, etc. and putting together some key things.

I am not set on any one thing but key things in the case seem to add up to one general picture which could have variations.

Well if you think about this- in the majority of cases such as this, many people are shocked. They know a completely different person. The nice guy, the one who would give you the shirt off of his back, the helpful and kind guy. In some cases, he's a family oriented man. Hard worker. In some cases, never has been arrested, not even a speeding ticket.

I can certainly sympathize with these people- imagine their shock and horror of hearing about this or in any other murder. You were friends with them, shared laughter, had coffee or drinks with them, went places with them. This person, killed so and so? You can't wrap your head around it. You saw all the good in them, no red flags or alarms went off when you knew them. Of course, this is shocking and if we're a bit honest, frightening, too, to think they were a part of your life at one time- you had no idea that one day, this person would be a cold hearted and cruel murderer.
