Okay, thanks, Zella (that's what I was assuming).

However, how would this lawyer in New York know what the Utah police are doing and who they have talked to?

All she's doing, really, is making sure that the police dot their i's and go talk (more) to those men. And probably pursue warrants on their digital media and phones. That is, if the Utah police in any way think this lawyer will influence the case.

I really don't think she knows anything specific to the case beyond what we know from mainstream media. I'm sure if ML did have SDs, they were some of the first people interviewed by police.

I think she is going to find a way to victim blame. From what I have seen, it's a bit more than a SD/SB relationship. She met a monster...coupled with a few bad mistakes on her part, maybe in the least it will serve to give other girls a warning and not be all lost. I think the lawyer is going to throw ML under the bus so to speak MOO.

Agreed! I have no doubt she is good at what she does in the state where she passed the bar.

Obviously not going to do her much good with another state across the country in a practice area she does not specialize in, but I get a real "doing a favor for a family friend vibe" from this. If I were her, I'd probably have opted out of a public statement on their behalf, but I'm sure it would be an awkward position for her to be in as the default family friend with a law background/career,

The tired “her skirt was too short” victim attack, ain’t gonna fly here.

What matters is that she ended up in the grip of this monster, and there isn’t a plausible way to point the finger in any other direction.

He was the last person she texted.

He denied knowing her, and had pictures of her on his phone.

Their phones were in that same park, at around the same time.

Her charred remains were found in his backyard, and neighbors spotted him tending to fires.

Add that with all the evidence we aren’t even aware of, and I’m convinced this case is as close to a slam dunk as it gets.

Victim blaming will only enflame the jury.

I find it extremely telling that a lawyer would say that they are going to try to get it moved out of state. That must mean that the lawyer already thinks or knows that Federal prosecution is going to move forward, because murder charges are State charges. Unless the feds take over the case.

Yeah, I'm in a much less high-stakes career field--editing--and as a general rule I won't take on projects for people I am friends or family with, simply because I think there needs to be some professional distance/boundaries to be effective.

I can't even imagine taking something as serious as a murder trail on as a favor--especially one that seems so open and shut--even if I lived in the state and was a criminal law specialist.

I believe the homicide charge will take precedence over any other crimes (trafficking sex, removing someone across state lines - which there's no evidence he did, for either). He didn't do this on federal land.

I don't see how it can become federal in any way (except perhaps in a civil trial). Criminal trials will take precedence over civil ones (cf. O.J. Simpson case as the most famous example, I'd suppose - although there was nothing federal about O.J.)

Federal court is clogged with drug trafficking, financial fraud, money laundering, various criminal conspiracies, organized crime, etc. If AA is part of organized crime, he'll still stand his homicide case first.

The rape was dropped because the victim didn’t want to move forward with it.

It’s possible that she could have given him advice, but I don’t think she was in a position to pull any strings or anything.

These investigations never reached that point.

That's what I was thinking since she specifically said she wanted to make a report for future reference but not press charges. I strongly suspect he may never have known that there was any official documentation of the rape allegation.

I would think he definitely would have been at least notified and probably questioned since she filed a police report against him. They are usually required to investigate any police report.

The way I understood it is that she did not pursue the charges so they never arrested him. They would need evidence, which would probably be her testimony, which she apparently was not willing to do. Imo

What other men could Ms. F be referencing? How would she know whether questioning was going on or not, or how many arrests may be in the future? While she's using a well known (and tricky) criminal defense tactic, it's clear from how soon she pulled it out that she's not, at all, an experienced criminal lawyer (or even a regular on an internet crime forum).

Unless and until federal charges are filed, AA stays in Utah and Ms. F must either have spoken in haste or in ignorance. There are no immediate reasons why this would be a federal case. There may be separate immigration proceedings against him, and if he's incarcerated in Utah, those would probably be out of a non-NYC field office.

That “feels” like an attempt to smear the victim. Referencing (other, many) men indicates they may want (eventually) to put ML in the category of escort, or perhaps deeper into that trade, where the pool of suspects could be larger (creating doubt and diverting talk from AA).

I’m going by what I’ve read here tonight because I have not heard the interview (and not sure I can stomach it right now). Just responding to a previous post, and my opinion only as to why a statement like that might be made.
