This guy didn't panic.
He went out and robbed a bank without bathing and in the same clothes he was wearing when he killed a child.

I don't think dumping her so close to home has to indicate he's "young" emotionally.

I think it goes along with not bathing after a rape, not changing or washing your clothes after a murder...

He's either cocky or he's stupid.

I'm just heartbroken over this news.

I cannot imagine the fear poor Sierra felt. There is nothing more vulnerable than a child sleeping safely in their bed.

If this disgusting creature didn't bathe for 3-4 days after raping this poor child, when was the last time he bathed? Makes me want to throw up.

On the 6 o'clock news, there was some correction to the earlier reporting. This creep was not a member or a part of their church. He "attended" their church on possibly 2 occasions, but he was NOT a member or a regular church goer. That makes more sense to me given his recent brushes with the law.

Also, the locals in the neighborhood are saying that not very many of them "knew" him. One guy had "seen" him, but he didn't recognize him or speak to him. It doesn't sound like he was very integrated into the community.

Well, we definitely know that West Jordan PD is not West Valley PD.

Thank God they have made an arrest! Thank God this horrible person is not on the streets!

I don't know enough about Law to know for sure...I hope he is stupid and unkempt and not cunningly making a case for insanity! This man needs to be treated with the same sympathy and kindness that he treated his poor victim!

That is an interesting thought! I haven't belonged to this site long enough, but I have read that there are additional, similar cases that are not solved. I certainly HOPE this beast has not hurt anyone else, but there is mention of other, older cases and it would be SO wonderful if there were closures for those families! I am so happy this poor-excuse-for-a-human has been found and incarcerated! Thank you to the WJPD!

I have been so busy today I havent even had time to check on Sierra's case until just now.

I am so pleased that an arrest has been made.

He looks like a brute. It breaks my heart to know that ugly face is the last thing Sierra ever saw before she died.

Black favors the disgusting pedophile that kidnapped, raped, and murdered Samantha Runion and he also favors the kidnapper/rapist/murderer of Dru Sojin even though they were Hispanic and he is Native American.

Thank God that the Newbolds had a camera. This timeline piece of evidence will be monumental at his trial. I knew all along she wasnt taken close in time when her mom found her missing. These cowards always go in .......in the dark of night.

Just 8 minutes in a home and a precious child is gone never to come home alive again. It just shows how little time it takes to kidnap a child and I bet he had never been inside that home either. How chilling. He reminds me of Joesph Duncan who also jiggled the sliding glass door to get it open in order to invade a home.

I hope they give him the death penalty. I felt all along that Sierra's family are victims of this predator too. He has not only destroyed a beautiful little girl who deserved to live out her life but he has destroyed her family too that will never get over their tremendous loss. I never had any feeling whatsoever that the parents were involved.

Another pedophile predator has struck again and sadly it will not be the last. With all the attempted abductions happening lately I think these perverts are getting bolder and bolder. Imo, we are going to see even more home invasiions in order to kidnap children from their bedrooms.

God please be with Sierra's family at this most difficult time in their lives.

I think we seem to come to these same conclusions everytime a child goes missing from their bedroom especially before a perp has been found and arrested. But when an arrest does happen then we all realize it does happen and it happens more times than we may think.

However, Couey had never been in the Lunsford home before he went in and kidnapped Jessica/raped her and buried her alive right across the street from the Lunsford residence. There was no evidence that he even cased the layout of the home he had never been in before that night. And the grandparents had a small dog and small dogs are known to bark at their own shadows yet it did not. As far as I am aware Couey had never gone into a home before to kidnap another child. There was no forced entry in Jessica's case. No one heard a thing.

And you take Joesph Duncan..the sadistic stranger pedophile. He did case the Greone home out with infared night vision goggles. He did know the layout of the home and where each adult and three children slept. He also knew that the family had two dogs that were inside at night. One a pitbull and another pitbull mix. Did it phase him or stop him? Did the dogs bark to alert the family to danger or try to attack him? Absolutely not. He said they just whimpered and got up under the kitchen table and stayed there the entire time. He not only crept in when no one was aware he was there but he viciously murdered three people before he left with the two children he had come to kidnap. There was no forced entry in that case either. He jiggled the sliding glass door and it came open. Duncan had kidnapped, raped, and murdered other children in the past but the Greone children were the first ones where he entered the home in order to get them. Now he DID target them. He was looking for children to kidnap and saw Dylan and Shasta outside in their front yard playing under the water sprinkler. Duncan left no evidence of himself behind in the Greone home. No one heard a thing until it was too late for all of them. They only knew he was there when he wanted them to know.

David Westerfield had never been in the Van Dam home before and it was two story with Danielle's bedroom on the second level. Yet he was able to invade the home and kidnap Danielle with intentions of raping and murdering her..which he did. There was also a dog in that home too. There was no forced entry in this case either. Westerfield left no evidence of himself behind in the Van Dam home. No one heard a thing.

I dont think it would take 30 minutes to kidnap a child. I think it can be done in a few short minutes.

The man that raped my neighbor's granddaughter had never been inside that home before yet he took her out of her bedroom and her parents were there sleeping and so was her older brother. He raped her and then let her go. Until she ran inside her parents' room where they were sleeping none of them had a clue that she had been kidnapped and raped.

So it certainly can and does happen.

This has pedophile written all over it imo.

Come in and get the victim out quickly.
Rape them.
Murder them.
Dispose of the body quickly.

They interviewed neighbors on the news tonight...
They said that they knew his wife and children well from church.
It sounds like they regularly attended church and he did sometimes.
Records support the fact that he has a wife and children.

His family are also victims in this... imagine finding out your father or husband raped and murdered a little girl.

Sierra's family did recognize him from the picture, after a minute.
Pretty typical of a neighbor that you don't regularly associate with. I couldn't name most of mine but I recognize them.

I have 2 ideas maybe you folks could comment on:
1) It seems to me everyone ought to have wrought-iron gaurds on thier windows & doors. Like not just if you live in LA or the Bronx. They don't have to be painted black, you can paint them to match your house.
2) All my friends who have kids, no matter what their home decor, the door to the kid's rooms are always covered with colorful stickers, posters etc. So a predator knows where to go as soon as he's inside. If the door was unmarked, he might accidentaly wake up the parents first.

I haven't been following this story until about 10 minutes ago, but... i wonder where this guy was in December 1996? Boulder, Colorado, maybe?? Six year old girl, sexual assault inside the home... You never know!

I am very relieved to hear of the arrest and I am very horrified and sorry for what Sierra went through. RIP sweet angel.

ETA: This sick needs to suffer. My kids are sleeping with me. I am so angry and sick about this. It breaks my heart.

This case reminds me so much of Riley Fox. So senseless and heartbreaking.
