She shared a room with her sister who was in the room when Sierra was abducted.

Thank you for posting that but I wish I hadn't read it. This is one of those cases where I got so excited to see "ARREST" in the thread title and now that I have caught up on reading I feel so disgusted and sad, it's almost worse. Somehow, when you don't know who did it or what exactly happened, you can convince yourself of all kinds of things like "Maybe it happened so fast, she didn't suffer." Nope, not with this one, this is the worst of the worst. I hope this guy fries. Oh, and my 7 year-old is going to sleep with me tonight.

People like him just need to die. Imagine being the parents and knowing the monster who raped and murdered your child is still alive.

He will not suffer from the memories of what he did, instead he will get pleasure from reliving it in his mind over and over again.

I am all for the death penalty but I know there are many people out there who are not(for some odd reason) so the only way I would agree with life in prison for a child rapist instead of death is if they got there penis and balls cut off so they could no longer fill sexual pleasure for what they did, as well as them not having any source of entertainment.

They said that they knew his wife and children well from church.
It sounds like they regularly attended church and he did sometimes.
Records support the fact that he has a wife and children.

His family are also victims in this... imagine finding out your father or husband raped and murdered a little girl.

Sierra's family did recognize him from the picture, after a minute.
Pretty typical of a neighbor that you don't regularly associate with. I couldn't name most of mine but I recognize them.

Yes, the wife and kids are LDS and attend the same church as the Newbolds. He has been to the church a couple times but is not LDS.

Why is LE saying that it was divine intervention. My understanding is he was captured on the home surveillance video. Wouldn't the locals recognize him if the video was released to the public? Was the robbery why they captured him? If he didn't, would they still be trying to locate the perp?

I'm a little confused about that. They had him on tape!

On June 29, three days after Sierra's body was found, police say Black stole a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the Deseret Industries parking lot at 7166 S. Redwood Road. The vehicle's owner told her boss about the stolen vehicle, according to court documents.

Black then allegedly entered Wells Fargo Bank, 7869 S. Redwood Road, and attempted to rob the bank of $100. Meanwhile, the boss who was told about the stolen vehicle happened to go to the bank at the same time to make a deposit and spotted her employee's missing Jeep. She confronted Black in the parking lot.

The woman "told him to get away from the car," charging documents state. Black walked away and the woman took a picture of him with her cell phone.

This was going to rob the bank of $100?????????

This woman was incredibly brave, but could have been dead from her bravery. Wow!

If Bigelow had not investigated the stolen vehicle call at the attempted bank robbery, Gill said the case may still be unsolved.

Diamond concurred. If not for Bigelow's ability to "connect the dots" and recognize that the charcoal on Black's pants could have come from the murder scene, "This crime (investigation) could have gone a totally different direction."

"We could have booked him into jail and never realized he was our murder suspect," Diamond said.

Can you imagine if they let him bath without realizing who he might be? They wouldn't have that crutial evidence found on his man parts. I completely commend D. Bigelow!!! Without him.... I know that catching this creep was a team effort, but this detective deserves the attaboy!!

His wife and children are active in their LDS ward and attend church services with the Newbold family. Although police said Black attended the same church, the bishop of the ward said Black is not LDS and had only attended a few church functions over the years.

It was dark, and the tape was blurry. They didn't immediately recognize him from the tape and the case may not have been solved if not for the "intuition" of the Detective that decided to go and check out the "burglary" suspect. When he got there, Black had soot on his jeans. That initial intuition saved this investigation from everything I have heard and read. If this guy had been given a shower, very critical clues and evidence would have been lost.

So he has a family and a home too, I would expect. If so, the reason he didn't wash himself has less to do with him being homeless or a slob and more to do with him wanting to keep a reminder of Sierra on his body. Disgusting. RIP Sierra and prayers to her family and friends.
