Did this monster live with his wife and child? Had he been home since he murdered Sierra? Or was he on the run so to speak like someone else suggested?
So he has been locked up since the 29th while they were waiting for the DNA/forensic test results?
It just makes me sick that someone can walk into someone's house in the middle of the night and take their child and do these horrific things. I make sure all of my windows are locked at night and I have been looking under beds before we go to sleep because a psycho creep like this could even come in during the day while windows are open (summer) and hide and wait.
I think I am going to look into window alarms or something. I don't want anything that would pose a fire hazard. This is sickening.
Do these home surveillance systems have audio usually? I guess we also need to teach our kids to kick and scream and fight back. How come no one heard them? I just wish this could have been prevented. That poor family.
Home surveillance - it depends how extreme you go. As I've mentioned on this thread earlier, a friend had top quality installed and you could hear a field mouse sneezing 100 metres away.
As far as window alarms etc - this guy entered through a sliding door, which are renowned for being easy to break into. A simple length of wood inserted into the door when shut will make it impossible to open, but most people do not realise this, or get complacent and don't always use it.
Locked doors and windows can make a massive difference as to whether you are picked for a crime, or not. Ask any LE department...there are easy and cheap ways to increase your home security.
Further, it remains (depsite the stranger danger hysteria) a fact that this sort of abduction is extremely rare, and care also has to be taken that the occupants can get out of a house, for example in a fire. Many, many more children die trapped in house fires than by the hand of a stranger.
