Walter Leodolter, 86, left his home in South Ogden around noon on Wednesday, according to a press release from South Ogden police.

Leodolter was driving a dark gray and blue 2015 Subaru Forester with Utah license plate “AFLENZ.”

Leodolter has dementia and needs medications, police said.

He speaks fluent German and sometimes forgets that he speaks English.

Police located a South Ogden man Thursday morning in Idaho after he went missing Wednesday, according to South Ogden Police Sgt. Wil DeHart.

The missing man was found by a "good Samaritan" just south of Grace, Idaho, around 8 a.m. when Leodolter ran out of gas and pulled to the side of the road.

Because of his dementia, Leodolter, who speaks fluent German, forgot he also spoke English but managed to get his name out. The good Samaritan recognized his name and face from a news article online.

He took Leodolter to a nearby hospital and contacted police. Police and Leodolter's wife are currently en route to Idaho to bring him home.
