IMO, this was all previously arranged, and agreed to by both the state and DNT's attorney. There is a plea in the works....( IMO).
No trial. Done deal
MPO
Makes me see red .....
Ugh.
I have a feeling this child will go on to commit further acts of violence.
M00.

Wait, what?
I want to know if the child will be institutionalized or free to return to the same public school.

I think we all want to know the answer to that but we'll never get it.

My .02 is that if he is not institutionalized, he might be allowed to attend a different school ?
It's hard to imagine this same school would accept him back !

Again my opinion is that he needs to be put away in an institution, possibly until he's an adult ?
But who knows ?

If he's let out early from juvenal detention, or a mental hospital that treats children -- and reoffends -- then he needs to be kept away from other children and the public at large, or he could commit murder the next time.

I worry that his mother will change schools, and then another adult or child could be harmed.
Imo.

The child wont be institutionalized. We don't know much about the home situation of course. But I think at most you would see a foster care placement. This child certainly should not be in mainstream schools. But you have to understand that schools are required to mainstream kids as much as possible. Clearly this child is dangerous to others. Just changing schools or even districts shouldn't allow the mother or family to hide what happened are re-enroll the child. The full folder should transfer with him with all this information. But this school district administration is a total dumpster fire, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have not (or will not) properly document all this, in hopes of just moving the kid along.

I think he will be evaluated and placed on medication. Mentally disabled children do have the right to a public school education. The school district needs to figure this out. There might be more charges coming because of the school's security lapse:

Newport News prosecutors also asked a Circuit Court judge to impanel a special grand jury to “continue the investigation into any security issues that may have contributed to this shooting.” This could include looking at Richneck administrators, the school system and others.

Such a probe could take months — and could lead to more indictments.

I suspect mom will get a sweet plea deal and the DA is hoping to charge the "bigger fish" in the form of the school administration. sigh, what a mess. I mean just a hot gooey mess of failure all around. Mom's, the school's, the district's, and on and on. But honestly, I feel mom's failure is THE failure. But for it none of what followed would have.

I don't have much faith in this DA. He is not exactly a tough on crime guy. It took him months to get the mother charged. He could have presented the case against the school officials to the regular GJ but didn't. He is now asking for appointment of a special grand jury. That will take months more. He is dragging his feet as much as possible.

I do think the public is owed this information.
NOT his name but that he is no longer allowed to harm another student or teacher.

I share your concerns too.
Like passing the hot potato, His issues need to be addressed not passed on. If his mom truly tried seeking help and was denied I hope she is given assistance now.

Probably related to having a doctoral degree. At least thats the trend in my area. Moo

I wonder where the Asst Principal obtained her PhD? 'Seems slightly worthless as she ignored all the warnings and stated there was no danger based on a pocket size.

But if the child is violent? I think at that point they should not be in public school with other children.

Perhaps the college didn't address safety issues? There's book smart and then there's street (common sense) smart.

This article lays out the events of the day, how DT was expected to meet her attorney and family at a Dunkin Donuts at 10, but she did not show up. She later called her attorney to say she over slept because she took sleeping pills the night before because she was so stressed out. She turned herself in, 2 hours later (noon). Richneck shooter’s mother turns herself in at Newport News City Jail, released on a $5,000 bond
This isn't off to a good start. Mother is taking sleeping pills, the night before court. The child must not be in the home, I hope not. Moo.

Now that everyone knows who she is, people are going to figure out who her kid is, too. I can't imagine any school voluntarily taking this child now.

Yeah, I know, stranger things have happened.

And not to mention a $5,000 bond, might as well have been no bond at all.
