My bra doesn't have any markings but that's because the tag wore out quite some time ago. It was moderately pricey at one time.

Everything I've found says that he died in 1998 and they were still together when he died.

I haven't found anything to substantiate that....Did you find the obit..? The only thing I have found is that he died in Harrison NY of natural causes..Although he allegedly lived in Boca Raton FL...Nothing on who survived him..

Her NAMUS page says "fingerprints are available elsewhere," so I don't think she can be Alice Crimmins, or anyone else with a record in the US. Unless they just haven't run her prints for a comparison. (I don't remember if there's a national fingerprint database, or if it's state-by-state.) Alice Crimmins is pretty notorious, though, so you'd think they might have checked her prints against AC's.

I imagine most detectives today have never heard of the case...Hard saying if they checked ex criminal prints or even if her prints are on a national database...Actually would be surprised if the State of NY still has her prints...

I have never, ever heard the statement of 'fingerprints are available elsewhere'. Just what does this mean and where are they available? I'm sure the coroner or ME took the fingerprints at the morgue, so why not just state that fingerprints are available?

"Available elsewhere" means it's not stored in the system -- you have to talk to somebody to get the information.

Some prints are stored in the Namus file or in the national fingerprint database. Others are in local or state databases. Others are on cards in filing cabinets in local sheriff's and police offices all around the country because they haven't been digitized yet. And sometimes the LE agency in charge just doesn't want to give up control for whatever reason.

Thank you very much, carbuff. IMO, the prints should be stored in the system I would think.

I think in most cases LE would agree with you, but they lack manpower and budget to go back through decades of old records, locating fingerprint cards and coding them or scanning them in.

No, I do not think that is curious. Remember that this unknown was only 5' tall. She would want clothing that would fit her. For instance, J (sis-in-law) was only 5'2" tall and very often put together an outfit with pieces from the same store. I've been shopping with her. She donated clothing.

Our unknown could not wear clothing or at least pants belonging to a person who wore average height clothing. Or tall. Sure, she could find a matching outfit of the same brand from the Goodwill Store if numerous pieces of clothing were donated at the same time. Not curious at all, IMO.

ETA: If our unknown usually wore high end clothing, then what I do find curious is that her panties were ordinary Fruit of the Loom and her bra had no markings at all. Those two items are not high end, IMO.

We will have to agree to disagree because I still think that finding a full outfit in one high end brand at a thrift shop is highly unlikely. Most people give away pieces that they no longer wear, not full outfits. I guess your sister in law was an exception.

Actually, you pointing out her height makes me think the chances of her finding pants in a thrift store even more unlikely. I'm 5'9, I know finding tall length pants is a nightmare in a regular store. My 5'2 Mom has the same problem, only short length.

I can see the outfit coming from a nice consignment store.

I'm a Victorias Secret girl so I can't relate to fruit of the loom panties. I'm pretty sure my grandmas aren't wearing fancy panties and bras though. I wouldn't be surprised if they wore fruit of the loom or something similar.

Uhhh, I don't seem to recall that little Minnie Mouse backpack...thing. What *is* that? At first glance I thought it was thong underwear! :blushing:

Is it like a little change purse? It looks well-worn, with the safety pin and the tape. Was there anything inside it?

LOL I THOUGHT IT WAS A THONG TOO!!! :floorlaugh:

Oh, yeah! I thought the exact same thing. Weird thong, especially for an older woman. :gasp:

For an older woman in 1996, Fruit of the Loom IS higher end. Not the absolute top of the line, but way better than what you'd get at decent quality clothing stores like JCPenny. They fit well, lasted a long time, and were (still are) extremely comfortable. They also run large, so somebody who normally wears a size 7 in, say, Victoria's Secret, will likely wear a 6 in Fruit of the Loom.

(For the record, I just turned 60 and wear VS these days. But for golf or paddling, I still have good ol' Fruit of the Loom.)

And as far as the outfit goes, it seems to me like with a Nordstrom just down the road, it's likely that she purchased this outfit especially for this occasion. She wouldn't care if she overdrew her bank balance or credit card, since she wouldn't be around to pay it, though as meticulously as everything else is planned, it wouldn't surprise me if she paid in cash.

Wait -- why are we doubting her outfit? LOL... I'm so confused.. I, unfortunately, don't think her outfit would be of any clue or help to us -- or at least the place of purchase. It's not like those department, consignment or thrift stores keep video for very long.. (but, there is a thrift store down the road -- it's a Goodwill I think, maybe ~1.5 miles from the cemetery). I tried tracing the REI back pack to the store in the area and even spoke with a guy who worked there / STILL works there, and he was like "nope, sorry, too old."

And I'll vouch for the Fruit of the Loom panties. They're comfortable as heck -- I wear a size 6 but my pant size is size 12... when I wear/buy VS, it's always large. I'm 30 if it matters.

As to the bra not having any labels, maybe she did what I do and cut the labels out. There is something about those scratchy bra tags that drive me nuts so the first thing I do is take them out. She may have done the same, not as an attempt to disguise the brand or place of purchase, but simply because the tag irritated her skin. For me, they make me itch like crazy.

In many missing person's cases finding where the items, or clothing items in this case was purchased will help somewhat. Stores, even the high end ones, will buy x number and size of an item. Those items can be tracked to certain stores and those stores can research when individual items were sold and even how the items were paid for. This could have been done in the beginning of the case, but as you say, too much time has passed now. The only thing that could be found out now is when these clothing items were made. What year, and whether they were currently in the stores at the time of our unknown's death.

FWIW, I play golf also and do not have certain underwear for certain activities. J. was married to a prominent lawyer in the Annandale/Fairfax area and he owned quite a lot of real estate there. We played golf at the Army/Navy Country Club in Arlington when we visited.

My youngest daughter and my grandchildren live in Fairfax. I moved there for quite a while after my husband passed away. I know the area well.

I am done and will just lurk now and read. I hope the identity of this poor woman will be found. I cannot forget her.

MOO

I work for an attorney in FFX -- does J's husband still practice?

No, no new thread. Just a lull in the case I guess.
