I was able to obtain a clearer picture of the woman's face upon discovery and I'm 100% positive she's JG.

Yes! Look at the link with the pic of her and her hubby. Look at the glasses!!!____ bingo. It's her. Great job.

I cannot tell you how happy this will make me if you have identified this poor soul. I don't usually drink, but I will pop open a bottle of champagne I've had in my fridge for ages, and I will lift up a toast if indeed, you have identified her.

Excellent sleuthing!!!!

  • #303
Whoa. That does look like her for sure.

  • #304
You guys think its possible though? I mean JG IS from NY and even though sodus is a beeline to Annandale, why would she live here in VA for 5 years?

  • #305
the gap in time is a bit hard to explain. we have seen stranger things however.

You know.... I've gotta get more info on the glasses... But if they were trifocals that only strengthens my guess that it's JG. Maybe csl stood for "corrective strength lenses" and wasn't the brand name as prior thought.

I'm sorry, JD DID had trifocals on her at the time of death. I wish there was a way to find jg's prescription strength and whether or not she wore trifocals. I've read she was legally blind without glasses but would trifocals (only) fix this??

"legal blindness that defined by law, usually, maximal visual acuity in the better eye after correction of 20/200 with a total diameter of the visual field in that eye of 20 degrees."

So I guess it's not like TOTALLY blind... I've emailed the Lt. on the case to inquire more about the glasses found with the decedent and whether they were trifocals or thick or anything. They look pretty thick and large though, like they have trifocal capacity.

Are we able to see the clearer pic?

Presbyopia means, basically, "aging eyes." (Personal knowledge here :p) It can easily be bad enough to produce legal blindness -- which is why so many older people have to give up driving. It can also make previous legal blindness worse.

Trifocals are a way of dealing with vision problems. They could be to correct what vision a legally blind person has left, or to deal with the problems of presbyopia, or a number of other problems.

Legal blindness deals with whether the lenses you have correct your vision, so the same prescription on one person might return them to close to 20/20 while on another person it doesn't help. So I'm not sure they could tell just by looking at the lenses whether she was legally blind.

Also, there are lens technologies that reduce thickness and weight of even very strong lenses. Again, I'm speaking from personal experience.

If JG did leave her abusive husband, it seems entirely possible that she would have moved to an area like this part of Virginia, where you can find low-paying jobs that aren't too particular about your identity and not have a lot of people paying attention to you. If her drinking problem continued, she couldn't get jobs any more, she still missed her husband...yeah.

It's a PM pic. :/

I'm having difficulty with the tip of the nose, but it could be from the blood on the nostrils of the decedent -- you know, makes it look narrower.

Good points, Carbuff. As I commented earlier, the area in which JD was found is one in which people can live anonymously. It is a high density, almost urban area with tons of high rise apartment buildings/condos. The cemetary itself is located in a suburban part of Annandale -- but one would not have to traverse far to enter into the realm of a more urban environment. People can live in this neck of the woods and never know their neighbor or make a friend. There are many people from other countries who stay close within their own cultural circles, lots of government workers and military who come and go every couple years, elderly who are living in subsidized housing, as well as young couples/families with double incomes. It wouldn't be a stretch to theorize that JG moved from one place to another, perhaps renting a room even, or living in one of the many shelters for homeless women. There is a coalition of churches that provide food and other resources for those in need. JG could have lived in transitional housing, been provided food/meals from churches and other local resources and received free medical care from community health centers.

Differences in the tip of the nose are almost impossible to estimate in PM photos. The changes from death can change it, the lighting isn't always clear. Also, only one photo can be misleading.

At this point all we can do is wait for people with access to the detailed information it takes to confirm her identity to look into it and make their decision.

I wonder how long it'll take. Hopefully not a year.

Though, I must say, if JD is JG I'll feel guilty. You know that whole "I don't want to be identified" and then boom! Some jackass (ie; me) cracks the code and she's gotten the notoriety she didn't want, you know??

I know what you mean.

Though in this case, I think at least part of her desire to escape into anonymity might have been that she was ashamed of what she'd come to and just wanted to disappear. It might never have occurred to her that any of the children she left might want to have her back. In that case it would be a good thing.

True. It would be good closure for the family indeed. I wonder if the local media would have a field day. Hopefully not. Heck, we don't even know if JG is in fact JD. It's all speculation and eerie similarities until DNA says otherwise!

Go back at look at the pic of the glasses that were found with the decedent. Then, go and look at the newspaper article that shows a picture of her and her husband. They are very distinctive.

I doubt if much of anyone will even notice. Depending on the family's wishes, it might not even be released to the public.

Yes, if you read the interview with her daughter, you can see why the woman might have made the decision to go without "bothering" anyone. She had abandoned her children to the care of the eldest child who was only 20 (?) at the time her mother left them to their own care. She squandered what her husband left her on poor choices, including some seemingly shady sounding guy. It's all very sad. The daughter deserves closure. Despite whatever poor choices this woman made, I'm sure her daughter still loved her a great deal. It sounds like the woman just fell apart after her husband died, and just went in to a downward spiral. God rest her soul.
