A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a missing teenager whose body was found by her parents and aunt on a wooded path in Virginia, according to authorities and a local news report.

Aonesty Selby, 18, was reported missing to the James City County Police Department on Jan. 13 by her family who had become concerned after not hearing from her since Jan. 11, according to a press release from the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office.

The woman's aunt, Ebony Selby, told the Daily Press that a friend was able to ping the location of the missing teenager's phone. She mentioned that the family, including the woman's parents, called police before going to the area of Blue Ridge Trail in Windsor, where they searched for Selby late at night.

Her body was eventually discovered on a remote dirt logging path, police said.

On Jan. 17, investigators were able to narrow down a suspect and arrested 21-year-old Andarius McClelland at his Newport News, Va. apartment, police said.

Aonesty Selby's shared phone location may have been a cry for help: Sister

A couple of days later, a shared location from Selby's phone to a friend led the family to her last location in Isle of Wight County.

Sellers believes this clue may have been a call for help.

"Honestly, I do feel like she sent her location because she felt something wasn't right or she felt scared and unsafe at the moment," said Sellers.

"After Aonesty's body was found, investigators collected enough evidence to issue an arrest warrant for 21-year-old Andarius McClelland, of Newport News, who police said confessed to shooting Selby after the two of them drove out to Isle of Wight and had an argument."

Adding from her FB it looks like her birthday was on January 10 (day before she went missing) when she turned 18 and shows the CashApp mentioned in the article below:

So sad. RIP Aonesty. LE has provided details on the timeline leading to her death:

"Based on information confirmed by Selby’s phone, Deputies found that she had taken an Uber on Jan. 11 from Williamsburg to an apartment complex on Coral Key Place in Newport News.

Potter said that based on the information they received, they learned Selby was possibly seeing a man named Darius who lived in the area. Darius was later determined to be 21-year-old Andarius McClelland.

Potter continued by saying that McClelland had sent Selby money via CashApp to pay for her Uber to Newport News.

Investigators then searched the FLOCK camera system, which reads license plates. They learned that a 2021 Dodge Charger, registered to McClelland’s brother, was caught leaving Isle of Wight County and driving into Newport News at 10:47 p.m. Jan. 11.

Potter said investigators interviewed McClelland’s brother, who said that McClelland and Selby were at the apartment the two brothers shared in Newport News. He continued by saying both McClelland and Selby left the apartment together around 7:15 p.m.

Investigators also learned during the interview that McClelland’s brother kept a 9mm handgun in the apartment. Potter says McClelland attempted to sell the firearm Jan. 13, but was unsuccessful. The gun was later recovered from the house during a search warrant Jan. 17.

During the same search warrant, deputies arrested McClelland in connection with Selby’s death.

Potter said while being interviewed by investigators, McClelland said he and Selby had been dating off and on for the past two months.

McClelland told investigators that the two of them left his residence after his brother came home from work on Jan. 11. The two decided to drive to Isle of Wight County and found a spot off of Iron Mine Springs Road, which is a road adjacent to where Selby’s body was found.

Potter said McClelland told investigators that after some time talking and smoking marijuana, an argument began over their relationship. McClelland said he had his brother’s 9mm gun at the time and that during the argument, he fired the gun and struck Selby.

Potter said McClelland then panicked and drove back to Newport News."

Eighteen-year-old Aonesty Selby’s own family – not sheriff’s deputies – were the first to find the missing Williamsburg teenager’s body lying on a dirt logging path in a remote area of Isle of Wight County.

Aonesty’s aunt, Ebony Selby, had set out with a party of family members the night of Jan. 13 to go looking for her niece. Their search ended up taking them across the four-mile James River Bridge, and another 20-plus miles south through Isle of Wight.

“I didn’t even know what county we were in. … It was so dark; it felt so scary,” Ebony recalled, speaking to The Smithfield Times by phone a week after the grisly discovery.
