I have to wonder if they were going to take one child...why didn't they take the other - especially if they had a ransom in mind?

Maybe Mom was at work, grocery store or out with friends or visiting someone else in the neighborhood? I don't know. But yes, I do think parts of this story are really hinky.

The Roanoke River is directly across the street from this housing project and that's what makes me nervous if this was not an abduction.

Was the man who was knocked out the father of the 4 year old but not of little Aveion? My hink-meter is going crazy here!

 • #23
It would be nice to know a few more details...like if the man had an obvious blow to the head...

 • #24
I know I am cynical by nature but I agree with the majority that this seems off on first pass. I don't like the sound of the step father being alone with the kids.

Why tie up a four year old even if you don't take her? It is an apartment building, did anyone else see these three men? Did they hear anything? Why leave a note and why think they have money? And a white SUV, that is descriptive.

 • #25
Well, while I still don't completely believe the story, I guess you would tie up the four year old so that she couldn't go for help or call 911. It gives you a bit more time to get away. As for why they would take the 2 year old and not the four year old, doesn't really make sense. The 2 year old would be more difficult to take care of while on the lam. I'm sure he's probably still in diapers. The only reason I could see for taking the 2 year old and not the 4 year old is if the 2 year old is your biological child and the 4 year old isn't.

More news articles, but same info.

If you want to grab a kid for ransom, why go to the projects?

ITA, the first thing I thought of was a fabricated tale because something happened to little Aveion...I just didn't want to post it because it's :( to think about.

UPDATED: Amber Alert issued for missing Roanoke child

Aveion is believed to be in extreme danger.

Now the stepfather is begging for his son's safe return.

"Still right now, I don't know what to do. I mean, I just want my son back, I just want my family back. And me having to go through all this, I mean I'm willing to go through this, but all I want is him," said Brandon Lockett, child's stepfather.

Now police are looking for three black men. Police believe Aveion was taken by a man named "Tony."

This baby is almost 3 years old.. why issue a picture that's almost 2 years old for him? How would anyone even be able to recognize him? This all sounds hinky.. ransom for a child from the projects? They now know one of the "kidnapper's" first names? (Tony?) Surely someone had to see something.. Usually in this type of area.. people turn a blind eye to what happens to the adults.. but when a baby is involved... everyone's eyes are open.. And then taking so long to issue an amber alert?!? Especially when they had a vehicle description from the start? There's so many questions here... Mom's doing all the reporting... but step father was the one who was knocked out? 4 yr old was tied up? Where was Mom when all this was going on? What did the 4 year old see? Where is a RECENT picture of this little cutie patootie? :banghead:

Lockett said he saw the suspects hanging around their home earlier on Thursday and told them to leave. One of the suspects referred to himself as Tony and said they knew a friend of the Locketts.

Later in the day, Lockett said he heard a knock on the back door in the dining area of the duplex. As soon as he opened the door, he got hit. "All I felt was just a bam," he said. He said he didn't know what he was hit with.

Lockett, who had a cut on his lip and evident swelling on his face Friday morning, said he woke up in the living room just as his wife, Morgan Lockett, returned home.

Morgan Lockett said the first thing Brandon could say was, "the kids," referring to the four young children in the home.

She said she found her 4-year-old daughter bound and gagged in the bedroom, but her 2-year-old son, Aveion Lewis, was missing. Two other young children, both under the age of 4, were still in the duplex and left unharmed. :waitasec:

The duplex was also ransacked, she said. The sofa was flipped, a pile of clothing was on the kitchen table and the house was littered with their belongings. Not taken was a large flat-screen TV in the living room, a Christmas gift to the family.

Morgan Lockett said the suspects left a note demanding $10,000.

also from above link -- so glad the FBI is helping!!

Roanoke police officers are being helped by agents from the FBI and the Virginia State Police, according to Roanoke police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson. Officers using K-9 dogs continue to search the King Charles Avenue area, including wooded areas and the Roanoke River, she said.

A Virginia State Police helicopter was used to search the area around the boy's home, and law enforcement officers are going door-to-door canvassing witnesses.

RSBM..

So they left the TV (which I honestly would have taken before I took a child...) and 2 other children were left alone.. :waitasec: this story is just so confusing.. and if it were me.. I'd be questioning everyone I knew about who the heck this "TONY" is...

Why knock a grown man unconscious.. and not tie him up, but tie up a four year old and leave 2 other children untouched? Unless the 2 other children were infants and in a crib or play pen that they couldn't get out of.. If the house was trashed.. they really took a risk with just knocking out the step father and not tying him up.. trashing a house can take a few minutes and they were obviously looking for something if they flipped a sofa and tore the clothes all apart...

Interesting comment by MW Today, 9:21:09 AM at this link..apparently it's a local so take it FWIW

http://www.wdbj7.com/Global/story.asp?S=11826595#

paraphrased:

says s/he lives in area, got home from work @ 9:30pm last nite - no activity til after 10pm when helicopter search started....said LE was walking around apt bldgs w/ flashlights looking on the ground...wonders why it took from 6:30PM til 10pm to start search by air, and says Amber Alert wasn't issued until 3a.m.

ETA:
also read the comment by guest at Today, 6:29:11 AM--says LE never knocked on their door

ETA2: also another guest posts they are family & this is not a custody dispute -- FWIW!

So his kidnappers were hanging around beforehand.. Let's think about what that could mean..

If any of this is true.. (and after what happened with Marc Bookal.. I'm VERY skeptical..) Then these three were obviously watching and waiting.. even supposedly telling the step-father that they were friends of friends.. Maybe they saw something that would make them think that these people would have some kind of money to pay for Aveion's return.. whether it be drug money or something else.. I still think all of this sounds strange and after reading some of the comments on the article.. I see that we're not the only ones who do..

I just spoke with the mother and step-father of Aveion Lewis.

They tell me the note demands $10,000, and Aveion has a health problem because he was born premature.

I just spoke with the brother of Aveion’s mother. He tells me the ransom note was written on a piece of paper from inside the home, and that paper was a medical bill from Carilion.

I wonder what the "Health Problem" is... and if it's something that requires medicine.. was the medicine taken? That would indicate that someone knew about this beforehand..
