One of the suspects referred to himself as Tony and said they knew a friend of the Locketts.

Later in the day, Lockett said he heard a knock on the back door in the dining area of the duplex. As soon as he opened the door, he got hit. "All I felt was just a bam," he said. He said he didn't know what he was hit with.

Lockett, who had a cut on his lip and evident swelling on his face Friday morning, said he woke up in the living room just as his wife, Morgan Lockett, returned home.

Morgan Lockett said the suspects left a note demanding $10,000.

Brandon Lockett said the note was addressed to an acquaintance of his, which makes him believe his family is caught in the middle between the suspects and the acquaintance.

"We live a simple life," he said. "We don't bother nobody."

Morgan Lockett said she's worried about Aveion's health because he was born premature and has battled digestive problems all of his life. Aveion doesn't have a lot of fat on his body, so he has to be kept warm or his body temperature drops quickly, Brandon Lockett said. He added that the toddler drinks Ensure formula every day.

"I just want my baby back," Morgan Lockett said. "I can't deal with this."

when I read what I big and bolded I yelled "BINGO" out loud and scared all my pets from their afternoon nap!

Do we know the step fathers age?

I am afraid for this little boy. He's only wearing footie pajamas, right? It's cold in VA and he apparently isn't able to regulate his own body temperature well due to low body fat. He has digestive issues and also drinks Ensure daily (presumably because he needs the extra vitamins and nutrients). That is a lot for a parent to keep on top of...much less a kidnapper who doesn't have an emotional commitment to the child. I hope and pray that this child is somewhere safe and will be found quickly.

I am so scared for little Aveion. This is sounding more and more like the stepfather did something to him and staged a really hokey and "by the book" crime scene, or it's something to do with drugs. Especially with the letter demanding money. Handwriting analysis, anyone? (I will apologize profusely if I am wrong. But...well...you know.)

Praying they find him soon.

Someone on HLN with Chuck Roberts says that the step-father did appear to have injury to his head/face. I wonder if the 4-year-old remembers anything or is saying anything.

I have no proof of this...just a scenario but have to wonder if this has something to do with something illegal...like someone didn't get paid for something and they took the kid in retribution...

This is exactly what my immediate reaction was too. I can very easily see why the two year old versus the four year old being taken, a two year old does not speak as well as a four year old. Four year olds can be quite chatty.

I don't know that I believe stepdads saying he believes he is caught in the middle of something between friends or acquaintances of his. Either he owes someone, or he protected someone who owes someone. I think, in some bad area's, one could find themselves in trouble just from being associated with someone..... how many random gang shootings do we read about when the victim was not the intended target. I wonder if that may be the case here.....

I can also somewhat see why they didn't take the TV, the price of TV's have gone down drastically recently.... might not be worth much.

Has it been said where mom was when this all occured? I assume the parents are married as dad is being called step dad vs. boyfriend.

Hi (((Idaho)))! I bumped up this article for you. It has a lot of info in it including the fact that the ransom note was addressed to a friend of the step dad and he also thinks that the perps could be friends of the friend the note was addressed to...

I would be questioning who the note is addressed to, they would know who "Tony" is.

ETA: IMO.. this has something to do with drugs.. but why take someone's "friend's" child? Why not the person who the note is addressed to??

I think they didn't take the tv because that wouldn't have gotten them the 10k they most likely think they are owed by the friend. I am still pondering that very specific amount of money that was written in the note.

Also, what leads them to believe a family living in the "projects" would be able to come up with 10,000 dollars? Unless they know the acquaintance of step dad is doing something illegal and knows that person can come up with that kind of cash.

I just hope this little guy is ok.

with his medical needs, and think about it, most two year olds, especially boys, are still in diapers. I am hoping maybe they will drop him off somewhere he will be found by good samaritans if caring for him proves to be too much.

Please be ok little guy!

Thanks for bumping that article, nurse. Still trying to catch up from being at work today.

Also, I just noticed that little Aveion's 3rd birthday is in 11 days, on the 26th. Hopefully he can be home safe to celebrate that day.

I live in VA (not Roanoake) and we have similar "projects" in our area. I lived in a townhome community and about 4 sections were for low-income housing. Those homes were rented to very low-income people.

The same situation exists in my current area. Low income housing often consists of garden apartments and small townhouses.

The LE will know soon enough if step dad is not telling the truth they will start questioning the descriptions of the suspects and he will forget what he said. Praying this baby is brought home safely, there are just way to many children going missing these days.

If dad was not telling the truth.....

I commented 'projects' because someone local familiar with the area posted the area was very rough.

  • #78
These are projects. The Roanoke Area Redevelopment Housing Authority owns these.

The area is rough. Not too bad in the daytime, and not at night if you're in a vehicle...but there is no way I'd be caught walking in this area at any time.

A few years ago the Roanoke Housing & Redevelopment Authority did a lot of rehab on a lot of the area project housing and it appears this area benefited as well as the older project areas.

This project area was built when I was a kid in the 70's and a lot of these kids were bussed over to our church. These kids had next to nothing and between school and Wednesday night dinners (at church) this was all a lot of these kids had to eat.
