If they were tying up and gagging, logic says: why wasn't step-dad also tied up and gagged... he could have easily regained clarity after being hit and given them a fight or ran out.

This is what Ive been saying all along.. It was a huge risk not tying up the step-father... Not to mention.. you have to really hit someone with something to knock them out for any length of time.. His small injuries... (a little swelling and a small cut on his lip) which were really not visible in his taped interview in which he stared at the ground the whole time.. you would think something like a busted cheekbone would have occurred... One of the video's (the HLN one) stated that the 11 month old was on the couch with Aveion as well.. so it's not like these other children were not in view of the perps. The 4 year old being bound and gagged UPSTAIRS is also strange.. Even the Uncle who the note was addressed to thinks something's not right.. While we always want to think the best of the family in a situation like this.. there have been too many cases were a small child has disappeared under a parents care. $10k is a very specific amount of money.. and to me, the family even having that kind of money is highly suspicious in and of itself. Who has that type of money just sitting around right now? I know the type of people who do... and I'm sure others have the same idea. Something still is right with all of this.. The family has now been on TV saying they have the money you can have it.. just give us our baby back, and still nothing from the "kidnappers"? :waitasec:

I know the astros have been mentioned, but has anyone made an official request for a chart for Aveion?

  • #144
I have not Idaho.

On another note - will we even hear if the kidnappers make any demands for the money? They have to know this has made the news, LE is involved and looking for them. Will they even attempt to give the child back :(

Prayers this little one is home soon!

I just heard from a person I've known for several years and consider to be a very reliable source.

Neighbors of this source were the foster parents to this child. My source says that Aveion was in their care for quite some time and these neighbors were in hopes of adopting him. Apparently it was seen fit that Aveion be given back to his family.

I have asked my source a few more questions regarding why Aveion was placed in foster care. As soon as I hear back from my friend I will pass along the info. Is there any questions any of you can think of that you would like me to ask this person. Let me be clear - my friend knows ONLY the foster family, not Aveion's family.

What was the full nature of Aveion being with them? I know someone said it was medical, but I wonder if it was more than just medical.

That is one of the things I'm trying to find out. I believe I heard in a news story that it was alluded to being a medical reason why Aveion was taken out of the home.

MBlover,
iirc, one article said he was taken from the home because his parents weren't "feeding" him (could have also been due to his digestive condition which so far has not been named).

UPDATE 12:08 p.m. – I spoke with Roanoke City Police Spokesperson Johnson and she says investigators are accepting a lot of leads through their command post that they are following up on, in addition, they are searching for a white 1990’s SUV that the suspects could be traveling in. In addition, investigators do have surveillance from the area they are reviewing now.

found an interesting FBI Law Enforcement bulletin from 2001 -- snipped from
Preschool Children (3 to 5 years) section

Investigating Potential Child Abduction Cases

Profit-based offenses (e.g., ransom, extortion, robbery, drug related) involving preschool victims are rare. Stereotypical incidents involving young children kidnaped for ransom are especially rare (less than 1 percent). [17] In preschoolers, profit-based abductions generally occur in the context of crimes against older victims, where the abducted preschooler is taken because of a pre-existing parental drug debt or in the course of a carjacking or robbery. A thorough investigation of friends, associates, and subordinates of the child's parents often provides valuable insights into the origins of these crimes.

The only other cases recently that I can think of, Briant Rodriguez & Cole Puffinberger, were "profit-based offenses" -- and both those little guys were set free by the abductors.

I have to hope the same for Aveion, altho I hope he's released somewhere safe -- not just left to wonder the streets all alone.

(And I still am wondering how 3 tough street guys are caring for such a small child. I don't envision any "Three Men & a Baby" cuteness going on) :(

The Roanoke Police Department is continuing its investigation in the abduction of Aveion M. Lewis. On January 16, 2010, teams of officers from the Roanoke Police Department and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) went back to the area where the incident occurred and conducted a door to door canvas of the neighborhood. The Roanoke Police Department continues to follow up on leads received in its command center. The command center is open 24 hours a day and anyone with information can call (540) 853-2212.

The longer this goes on, the more worried I get. I am still baffled at uncles apparent lack of knowing who would be 'targeting' him for some kind of payback, but that could be LE hold back info....

I've been keeping an eye on the news article comments - and there's a poster (guest Today, 5:52:10 PM) who said (FWIW!!)

"foster parents nursed him back to health, he is the same weight he was when he left a year ago". :(

Sooo - are we supposed to hope that little Aveion didn't get kidnapped? Because, if not, what's an alternative scenario that could be good for him.

Stepdad's story is so hinky, and I want to believe him because I don't like blaming caregivers, but statistically this whole situation is not likely.

Even the alleged window of time between the time stepdad was "dozing around 6:30" til he opened the *back* door, when it's *dark* outside, to people he'd already told to stop lurking who knock him unconscious, invade the apt, tie up a 4yo & snatch a 2-almost 3yo, mom comes home & they untie the 4yo -- and the cops were called at 6:40.

That's 10-15 minutes, I'd guess, for this to go down.

Possible - yes.

Probable - IMO, no.

Where is Aveion??

Search continues for local toddler

[snip]

Saturday, family and friends stepped up efforts to find Aveion. From searching the neighborhood on foot for clues to passing out fliers as far as Salem. Despite all of this, there are still more questions than answers. “We have not heard a thing. Nobody has called, nobody has any news or information, anything”, said Cara Ward, Aveion’s Aunt.

The family says investigators were in the neighborhood throughout the day Saturday. FBI agents as well as Roanoke City Police are working to canvas the neighborhood, talking to people about what they may have seen or heard the night of the kidnapping. As for the family, they continue to do what they can to get the word out, until Aveion is home safe. “Kids are innocent and children have nothing to do with whats going on. Just please bring back my nephew”, said Ward.

snipped from your above post Idaho4Groenes. I am assuming the above comment was made by Cara. I'm not sure what to make of it, does it read to anyone else like the aunt and uncle are acknowledge somethings going on directly linked to them?

Also, I'm kind of curious now, how was step dad knocked out? What kind of wounds did he have on his head to support his story? Was he hit with a gun? a pipe of some kind? or cold knocked out by a punch?

seems I come up with more questions the more media released vs more idea's. I just pray this precious cute baby is found safely.

  • #158
I think I remember a reporter on HLN saying something about the step-dad having wounds to match the story, including facial injuries. But I can't recall if anything was visible in the video interview he was in? And I don't think anything "official" was ever said about it either way. Also...have polygraphs been done? Haven't heard anything about those either.

I really wish they would release a more recent picture of precious Aveion. The one that is out there is over a year old. Certainly someone must have taken a decent picture of him in the past year? If not his family, maybe the foster family he was with? Not sure when he was with them though. But come on...people need to be looking for a nearly 3 year old child, not an infant.

It seems in one of the videos, there is a more accurate picture, but you can't see his face very well. It is the one where it looks like his mom is throwing him up in the air.

I hope they bring this baby back home. I'm very worried. AND I still want to know who the last person to see him, outside of his family, was. And when? I wish they would release that info.

ETA: Here's the video with the picture of the mom throwing him up and he is laughing: http://www2.wsls.com/sls/news/local/article/amber_alert_still_on_family_speaks_out/75016/
