Have they released the 911 tape?

It's a little hinky also, that from what I read it was mom, not dad who made the 911 call. Why mom when she wasn't there to witness the event?

I'm really wondering... Are there others catching on?

WDBJ7.com does not have this story on their local headlines

WSLS.com has not updated their story since the 16th.

No one is reporting on this still fresh story - a supposed kidnapping of a child and the restraining of another child??? The FBI is working with the local police (according to articles)...and yet this isn't a 'hot' news story? These 2 local stations are not concerned about keeping the news out about this story?

Could this possibly mean the 'story' is falling apart?

Possibly.

BTW, re your post above, the stepdad said he awoke when his wife came home from work.

ETA: I live here too; I might just take a drive this afternoon...

these are a little different style and down the block from these homes....

but I am going to do some more searching and see what I can find.

I saw those the other day when I drove by to see what was happening...I'm not familiar with those newer units that are on down the road just a bit. I don't know if they are HUD housing or something else.

I'm rarely on that side of town and was quite surprised to see those new residences.

Hi Calliope...be careful and let us know what you observe!

I've been watching this case and it's hard to believe the news has no updated stories. About the only thing I can think of is LE may be working with the family and even perhaps the kidnappers to retrieve this precious child.

We can only hope and pray for little Aveion's safe return!

“On the other side of the note it said ‘Nothing personal it is just business. We’ll contact you.“
Sounds like someone has been watching too much TV...

“Kids are innocent and children have nothing to do with whats going on. Just please bring back my nephew”, said Ward.

What's going on??

Sightings mounted across the state, but authorities later altered their description of the suspected vehicle, describing it finally as a 1990s white Chevy Tahoe or Suburban with double doors on the back, no roof rack and tinted windows.

Considering this vehicle was parked in the Food Lion lot, he sure gave them a damned detailed description...

A path behind Jamestown Place goes over a stream and into the back parking lot of a Food Lion, where the suspects are said to have parked when they abducted Aveion Lewis, 2.

That photo is of the rear of the apartment (as shown in the one I posted above).

Did the step-dad go to the hospital? to have been knocked out that long should warrant a stay in the hospital, IMO.

A couple years ago I had a burglary here at my residence. Unfortunately the Roanoke police was of no help. I ended up doing a lot of leg work on my own and found that whoever broke into my house had made a phone call to my home from a payphone shortly before breaking in.

I traveled to all of the payphones near my home and found one at a Food Lion that had the right number. I went into Food Lion and asked the manager if they had surveillance tapes from this specific day.

This is what the manager told me and I will never forget his words... "Ma'am, I'm sorry, Food Lion doesn't deem it necessary to have video surveillance to keep their patrons safe. I am sorry, there are no cameras."

While this is not the same Food Lion, I would expect that all Food Lions (at least in this area) do not have surveillance cameras.

Which brings me to another point - who informed LE of this tidbit of info - that the perps were parked in the FL parking lot? If Mr. Lockett knew this fact he was in violation of not reporting these men to the police when he first saw them.

There are strict rules (however I'm not sure how heavily they are inforced) about 'outsiders' being in the projects and loitering.
Yes there are rules but they are not enforced here where I live. Seems like the manager has blindfolds on.

Hi Calliope...be careful and let us know what you observe!

Not sure I want to go down that street, as it's a dead end... but I would like to check out the parking lot and how well it could be seen from the apartment.

If the step father was knocked out for so long, shouldn't he have been checked out at a hospital.. You really have to hit someone VERY hard to knock them out for any substantial amount of time. He could possibly have an unseen injury that needs to be taken care of... (one to his brain or maybe even a fractured skull...) He's a big guy to just be falling and out cold like he claims.

ETA: Elphaba.. seems we have the same opinion of this man's injuries..

You'd think so. At the very least, I'd think the police would have called for EMTs to check him out. I don't recall that being mentioned anywhere in the reports.

Hi,
I dont live in the complex that Aveion and his family lives but I do live in one that is run by RRHA. To let you know alittle about the neighborhoods, well it is like what was said in a earlier post, during the day it is quiet but let it get hot and in the evening well its like you dont want to look out your door. I have lived here for nearly 30 years and it didnt used to be like this. At one time neighbors cared about one another and it was nice. I am very fortunate to have raised a son who put himself through college and has made a good life for himself and his family.

As for the management now it is like they have blindfolds on. I know for a fact that people are living here that are not supposed to be here. Ever since I heard about little Aveion, I have this aching in my heart and pray that he is ok and not caught up in this cycle. The children here is who my heart goes out to. Its like their family only cares about how much money they are getting from the social services, or social security and then use it to buy their refreshments. Know what I mean.

Thank you for welcoming me and lets keep Aveion in our prayers..

Calliope - Google maps may have shown the wrong units then, because when I looked up the address on google maps it came up as the newer units, grey sided TH's with small porches. Now I am wondering which is correct, the grey units or the brick units. Anyone know?

From the Amber Alert:

On 01-14-10 between 1640 hours and 1700 hours, Aveion Lewis was taken from his home after his stepfather was knocked unconscious after opening the back door of the residence.

So let me get this straight. Stepdad tells reporters he was dozing off at 6:30pm, heard the knock, *BAM*, he's unconscious. Police are called to the apartment at 6:41 pm. (is this the time of the 911 call or when they arrived?)

According to him, he awoke when his wife arrived home, yelled "the kids!", ran up the stairs and untied the 4 year old.

Assuming that would take at least several minutes to do, that places wife arriving home around 6:35 pm.

So we're to believe that in approximately 5 minutes, 3 men knocked him cold, dragged his unconscious body into the living room, ransacked the apartment, tied up a 4 year old, searched for pen and paper to write a ransom note just *happening* to find a bill addressed to a relative and made away with a 2 year old in a vehicle parked (at least) several hundred feet away in the back of a Food Lion.

Or.

We're to believe what he evidently told the police, that at some point between 4:40 pm and 5 pm, the above occurred and that he was out cold for nearly 2 hours while all that was going on (and I'm sure the other kids were quiet, too), just happening to awaken when his wife arrived home.

Right.

The front of the units have porches and siding, the back are brick (see the photos in this link):

Good point JLMcKenna! Come to think of it, your post raised my hinky meter. It would make sense that the 4 yr old would have to be 'tied up' because if not, one would think a 4 yr old would know how to dial 911 if daddy was out for 1.5 hours and mommy wasn't home. Kind of leads me to believe moreso now this was staged by dad. Because seriously, if the 'bad guys' got away, clearly while they were there ransacking the place she would have likely been so scared she would have hid, and not come out for some time AFTER they left. Long enough for them to be long gone and not have to consider a 4 yr old dialing 911. Hinky meter up a notch.
