Cory Bigsby sentenced to 45 years for killing his son Codi

Cory Bigsby, the Hampton man who was convicted of killing his 4-year-old son, Codi, was sentenced to on Tuesday.

Commonwealth's Attorney Anton Bell spoke to the press in front of Codi's family members on Tuesday afternoon following the sentencing. He reminded the group that Bigsby has been indicted on 23 more charges, and may end up facing a total of 136-156 years. Bell said he wants the maximum penalty.

"People wanted to believe this 3-year-old was still alive... the harm to their family, the harm to the community, has been so exacerbated by the fact that we just don't know where he is... Codi is dead, that's just the reality of it," Bell said. "That's why we are not going to spare one ounce of mercy."

State police to begin using ‘CODI’ alerts for some missing children

CODI alerts were approved by the 2024 General Assembly and named for Codi Bigsby, a 4-year-old boy who was reported missing in 2022.

Virginia State Police will now issue “CODI” alerts for missing or endangered children.

“CODI” - or “Critical Operation for a Disappeared Child Initiative” - alerts were approved by the 2024 General Assembly and named for Codi Bigsby, a 4-year-old from Hampton who was reported missing in 2022 and has never been found.

The pre-trial hearing is in reference to allegations Cory left his children home alone. ...

The hearing, scheduled to take place at Hampton Circuit Court at 9 a.m., is to try and get the judge recused, or excused, from the case.

Cory Bigsby to go on trial for child abuse and neglect charges

The trial is set to begin just over three years after he reported his 4-year-old son Codi missing.

In this case, Hampton Commonwealth's Attorney Anton Bell said Bigsby faces a maximum sentence of up to 162 years for those crimes. Bell said he would be pursuing that maximum sentence. Following Monday's court hearing, the judge could set a trial date for these charges.

Event at Fort Monroe celebrates Codi Bigsby's 7th birthday

Memorializing Codi Bigsby. That was the goal of friends and family gathering at Fort Monroe Sunday afternoon.

Not only did Sunday's event celebrate Codi's birthday, but it also praised the implementation of the CODI Alert which Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed in Spring 2024.

In addition, at Sunday's celebration, people donated clothing which will be given to people living in homeless encampments that were discovered while searching for Codi.

It was held at the Virginia Black Dream Caucus by BLM757 on what would’ve been Codi’s seventh birthday. It included a coat drive for the unhoused and more details about the success of the CODI Alert program.

Disposing of a child like trash, then remain silent forever. It seems like that's the norm in these nightmare cases. Sad isn't it? How do they live with themselves is my question.
