GUILTY VA - Cory Samuel Cole, 5 mos, Pulaski, 27 January 2014

My DD was in an abusive relationship - she dared to leave - he beat her so badly she was hospitalised.

HE was given the children to take care of until she was conscious and gave his name as her attacker.

He STILL has contact with the children (apparently, he abused the mother, but not the children, social services don't feel they are in danger)

I'm going to go a little easy on the Mum here.

I am so very sorry that she went through that. I know first hand how difficult that can be and agree with you. Being in that position is a difficult one and from the outside it is easy for people to say what should be done and for people to judge. I am also going easy on the mom for several reasons. Being abused is a horrible thing to endure, emotionally and physically. Also, she is not a suspect or person of interest in this case for his death. She is a victim of abuse and a victim as she lost a child, same with the father. Unless I missed where they were named POI in the murder of their baby.

I snipped your question

This picture makes me sad, but is yet such a beautiful picture. It reminds me of my nieces passing. We had a memory board and a picture taking with family at the casket. Regardless of what happened, he appears to have many who loved him, as there are many mentioned in the obituary. These children case are the hardest.

Mom's facebook is now gone. Not sure who took it down, or why.

The Justice for Cory page on FB is interesting, to say the least.

I'm wondering about something, there are many injuries to a child that doesn't cause them to die immediately. There's been babies that died later due to injuries from babysitters, or another family member, while the child is in the custody of someone else. I'm wondering if the same didn't happen here. According to released statements from Samantha, her family members, as well as Howard were left with Cory. From that point, nothing has been said. It's possible the child passed from prior injuries, and someone freaked thinking they would be blamed. Of course not what I would have done, but I don't know for sure that the Dad is the one that killed this child. The Mom has quite the extensive court records herself, and seemed to bring all her possessions with her to meet the guy in Lynchburg. She wasn't planning on going back home, IMO. There's a pile of her stuff by the door in the interview with the guy who called Pulaski because her stories weren't adding up, and he was fearing she was going to flee the area. I do know if I'm going to visit someone about business, or in this case, to talk to the guy about child abuse, and ways to raise money for the headstone, I wouldn't need suitcases of clothing, Ipad, written coorespondences from someone in jail, etc. I might take my purse, phone, notebook and pen for taking notes, maybe photos of my baby if discussing doing flyers or such for the fundraising. But I don't know why Samantha felt the need to take all that personal stuff unless she truly wasn't going back to the boyfriend, or her home. There's much more to this case, IMO!

And stating the child's favorite color is blue...I don't know ANY 5 month old babies that have a favorite color. Favorite blanket, favorite way to be held, favorite way to be soothed, favorite stuffed animal (maybe), favorite type of pacifier, favorite bottle nipple that they are use to, perhaps even a favorite person that makes them laugh more, or who they want to cling more to. Favorite sleeping position. But COLOR? Nah.. not seeing it.

Where are you getting all of this information from? Is there an article you can link me to? Thanks,

I just realized why that blue aspect is bothering me so much. In the Kevin Quick case, there was the talk about gangs, and wearing blue or red. Now I'm not saying anyone is a member of a gang, because I wouldn't know that information. I'm saying that's why my mind keeps going bonkers on the color blue.

http://www.southwesttimes.com/2014/05/setting-of-capital-murder-trial-delayed/

The trial of a Pulaski man accused of killing his infant child was supposed to be set Friday, but its scheduling has been continued until August.

Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor said limited free time on the court docket before fall and the anticipation of numerous pre-trial motions hearings resulted in a delay in scheduling of the capital murder case of 31-year-old Howard Samuel Cole.

Cory’s mom given maximum sentence

snipped
The mother of a 5-month-old child who was murdered and left in a shallow grave in Draper received the maximum sentence of 10 years Monday for neglecting the child’s welfare by violating a court order not to leave him alone with his father.

Samantha Anna-Jane Taylor pleaded no contest Monday to a felony charge of child abuse and neglect. The plea was not part of a plea agreement, and Taylor insisted on being sentenced Monday rather than having a background report completed first.

Several family members of Taylor and the deceased infant, Cory Cole, appeared in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Taylor’s behalf. Taylor, who was in tears throughout most of Monday’s hearing, and her mother, Cindy Warden, pleaded with the court to send Taylor home to her family.

From July:

http://www.roanoke.com/news/crime/p...cle_4faf247f-8f82-53e2-9f01-f20ced340cf6.html

After Howard Cole killed his infant son, he placed the body in his car and drove to purchase alcohol. He began drinking as he drove around looking for a place to bury Cory Cole’s 5-month-old body.

Cole signed a plea agreement Thursday which will spare his life: He pleaded guilty to the capital murder of his son and was sentenced to life in prison...

Cole pulled off Draper Valley Road a short distance from Interstate 81’s Exit 89. He walked almost 600 feet from the roadside to a line of trees where he began digging, though not very deep since the ground was frozen solid from the winter weather. He buried his naked son less than a foot in the ground and pushed a pile of dead leaves over the burial site at the base of a tree.
