I would assume by now the authorities would know if the burning vehicle had human remains in it. Hopefully they are alive somewhere and will be found soon.

Oh no. I hope this doesn't turn out like the other case I read on here very recently about the grandmother and her granddaughter same age as this girl who went missing. I cant remember the names but it was the boyfriend of the grandmother who did it. Hopefully they are found safe and soon.

A few new updates I hadn’t read before...seems they may have gone willingly but never made it to their destination.

Harrisonburg Police Department
UPDATE: The Harrisonburg Police Department, along with its partnering agencies, continue investigating the disappearance of two females from the city.

Elizabeth Rodriguez Rubio, 48, and her granddaughter, Angie Carolina Rodriguez Rubio, 12, were reported missing the morning of Tuesday, August 7. They were supposed to be transported by Sariol to a residence in Maryland and they never arrived.

On Tuesday, August 7, an AMBER Alert was initiated for the child who is 12-years-old and believed to be in extreme danger. Her grandmother, Elizabeth, was also entered into a nationwide system as a missing person.

On Tuesday, August 7 around 5:00 p.m. Hareton Jamie Rodriguez Sariol was arrested in Lakawanna, PA, while driving a tractor and trailer. He is still in police custody and is being held there until his extradition to Harrisonburg.

Investigation
Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Sariol was seen with the two females on Sunday, August 5 around 1:30 p.m. in the shopping center located at 2347 South Main Street. The vehicle was seen around 2:30 p.m. in the shopping center located at 259 Burgess Road

While in Harrisonburg, they were traveling in Sariol’s 2001 red, two-door Honda Civic.

On Monday, August 6 around 3:00 a.m., a passerby reported a vehicle fire on I-66, near mile marker two. Sariol’s red vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and has since been recovered by HPD and processed as evidence.

Tips
Tips are being received by HPD. HPD and its partner agencies continue following up on these leads and the information received through the detectives’ work.

Residents, property owners, and businesses are asked to report any information on the whereabouts of the two females immediately as detectives continue working on this case.

Anyone who may have seen Sariol’s vehicle, the victims, or the offender between Sunday through Monday morning are asked to call police immediately. Locating Elizabeth and Angie remains the top priority.

HPD remains the lead investigating agency, but is partnering with other local, state, and federal agencies to pursue information that is received in our area and surrounding jurisdictions.

Anyone with immediate information as to their whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. All other information and tips can be submitted through HPD’s local Crime Solvers line at 540-574-5050 or text “HPD” plus their tip to CRIMES (274637).

This latest article helps mke more sense of what happened with the change of vehicles. It’s sounding more like he disposed of them and then set the vehicle on fire and left the area. I would think if they were in the vehicle, they would know by now.

I wonder what led them to believe that these two were in trouble in the first place? It seems right from the start they had a POI in them missing. How did they not feel he was "missing" as well? Can't wait until more info comes out about this case. Hoping he just dropped them off somewhere and left them, but I feel it is pretty much a false hope at this point. Very sad!

https://www.virginiahumanities.org/2017/07/refuge-in-the-valley/

HRS was a police officer in Cuba before fleeing to the US in 2006. One of his FB likes was of a trucking company. I suspect he was recently working as a truck driver. I feel like maybe the truck was his work vehicle, but how did he get from Strasburg where the red car was found on fire to Harrisonburg where the truck would have been garaged? This is a distance of over 50 miles.

Could he and Elizabeth have driven separately? If so, why?

Could he have stashed the truck in the Strasburg area? If so, he would have had help. That would also indicate an amount of planning.
There's something very hinky about the red car. Unfortunately, I can't help but think the abducted ladies are no longer among the living.

Search continues for missing Virginia grandmother, granddaughter
Five days since Elizabeth Rodriguez Rubio and her granddaughter, Angie, were last seen in Harrisonburg getting into a car with a man their family had once trusted, the search continues for any evidence of where the two may be.

The Harrisonburg Police Department has now partnered with agencies across Virginia into Pennsylvania, as well as the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Marshals, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

I hope they searched the tractor trailer.

They make it seem like he was creepy but harmless in the grandmothers eyes.

Be careful folks.

One month after AMBER Alert, grandmother and granddaughter remain missing
One month after the disappearance of 48-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez Rubio and her granddaughter, 12-year-old Angie Carolina Rodriguez Rubio, the man police say abducted them has been transferred from Pennsylvania jails back to Rockingham County.

Hareton Jamie Rodriguez Sariol is now being held in Rockingham County Jail, but police say there is no new information they can offer about the investigation into the whereabouts of Elizabeth and Angie.

On August 5, Sariol – a family friend who had grown increasingly obsessed with Elizabeth, according to family – was supposed to drive them from Harrisonburg to their home in Maryland, but they never arrived.
