Emily Lu: Search continues for 72-year-old Fairfax County woman | wusa9.com

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Fairfax County Police Department has identified a person of interest in the "suspicious" disappearance of 72-year-old Emily Lu, who was last seen on June 3.

During a news conference Thursday, police said that they can not release the identity of the person of interest linked to the case, but they do believe Lu's disappearance was not random and she knew the person.

"I can tell that person is not a stranger to Miss. Lu" said a police official with the Fairfax County crime bureau.

They are looking for additional clues and expanding the search. They are not excluding that there could be more people of interest linked to Lu's disappearance.

Thank you for all these updates.

It certainly appears the investigators are making a great deal of headway on Emily’s case. I assume that there’s a person of interest means this person is in custody?

No the POI is not in custody to my knowledge.
I will say that, with George Mason University Law Enforcement being involved that & the case extending to outside the state, IMO, the POI is or was an out of state student at George Mason University and may have rented a room from Emily. I cannot think of any other reason that GMU LE would be involved. While they are close, up the road, the campus does not extend down to this area of Fairfax County.

All Just My Opinion

About 20 officers searched an area nearby, at Ox Road and Peniwill Drive, on Thursday after some of Lu’s clothing was discovered.

Having gone back through and watched the press conference again, I am not sure that this is accurate. The Chief stated that they have gathered evidence of Emily & gave examples, but did not commit to having found articles of clothing, during the press conference.

SBBM

Then at 7 p.m. there will be a prayer vigil outside Lu’s home at 9270 Davis Drive Lorton, VA 22079. Organizers said all are welcome “to come help us shine some light that will, hopefully, be a beacon to guide Emily home.”

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. They also offered a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest or the solving of the case.

Noting:

"The person of interest is not a stranger to Ms. Lu," Major Ed O’Carroll, Commander of the Major Crimes and Cyber and Forensics Bureaus said Thursday. He added that the department was able to identify a person of interest thanks to “a tremendous amount of digital evidence.”

The FCPD has not ruled out, however, that there may be more than one person of interest.

[...]

A source told WTOP’s Neal Augenstein that a piece of clothing was recently recovered in Lu’s backyard after investigating the people who live in the house. In addition, evidence has been found in the spot where they were researching the woods Thursday, a half-mile from Lu’s home.

O’Carroll said they’ve been expanding their search area, adding, “I’m very confident I’ll be standing before you with much different remarks on where this case will go.”

He said authorities are also searching outside of Virginia.

Oh I sure hate the sound of this, it makes my hopes that she's being held somewhere sink a little bit more.

"Even with our announcement today that we have a person of interest. We have not excluded there may be a second person of interest or someone involved with the person of interest," said Major O’Carroll.

[...]

"I will not say if the person of interest is a tenant. I can say that the person of interest is not a stranger to Ms. Lu," Maj. O'Carroll responded. "This was not a random act."

Detectives are now expanding the search outside of Virginia. Investigators are looking North, South, East, and West.

When officers responded to her Lorton home on Davis Drive. They found no signs of forced entry, but did notice Ms. Lu’s groceries were still in the car. They also discovered evidence of a possible struggle as if someone hurt her. Since then investigators have received lots of tips and signs of Ms. Lu that has lead them to find more evidence. The clues include videos and even tangible items like clothing.

The person of interest is in custody after detectives found the body of Emily Lu. Yesterday evening, detectives received information that Ms. Lu may be in the area of Dudley Drive and Laurel Crest Drive in Lorton. Detectives responded to that area and located Ms. Lu in the woods near the traffic circle. Sadly, she was deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.

Brian George Sayrs Jr., 25, of Woodbridge, was charged with second degree murder and felony concealment of a body. He is being held at the Adult Detention Center without bond. Sayrs Jr. was a tenant at Ms. Lu’s home at the time of her disappearance.

I am so thankful that her family & friends now have closure.

I am, however, disturbed that I drove by her daily, sometimes multiple times for 7 weeks before she was found.

Rest In Peace Emily!

Poor Emily. This is horrible.
So, was he the tenant who lived in the basement, according to the former tenant who gave an interview? Why was Sayrs still there, when the other tenant said they both were asked to leave due to her wanting to sell the house?

Another tenant was living in the basement during his time there, according to Keomalavong, who said he last saw Lu more than a month ago when he dropped off the keys to the house. He said he and the other renter moved out because Lu had plans to sell the house.(underlined by me)
