The following people have been ruled out. These are the only people who I have found proof they have been ruled out. I find it helpful to know who has been eliminated.
-Jack Jason Simmons
-James Cole
-Chris Rainbow
-Christopher Alan Temple
-Aron Holmes Silverman
Does anyone know of any others? I know you can get a list from doe network if you are a member, but they are not taking new members right now.

In 1997, the first person to be ruled out as a potential match to the Grateful Dead Hitchhiker by the Richmond VA Medical Examiner's Office was Air Force Sergeant David Michael LOEW, missing from Rome, NY since December 1984.

i really hope that our jason doe here was at least reported missing. it'd be a shame if we were all searching in and out for someone who isn't even listed somewhere.

i think this may be the case, unfortunately .. :(

I think one of the things hindering this investigation is.....I do not think his natural haircolor was red.....probably lightbrown and had been dyed, from what I have found before....

I was online yesterday and somehow got to a Utah missing persons site and I found a picture of Jack Jason Simmons. He looks like this guy, and I was wondering if this had ever been checked out? Here's the website, you can see the pic for yourself.

It was submitted to Coldcases group at yahoo by me and was not a match
looked like a hit though...:bang:

I know this is a lonnng shot, because this guy's French and the eye color might be problematic (it's not specific in the description):

There's a resemblance. And if this guy was foreign, it might explain why there hasn't been a match so far. If he was traveling, even through Spain, he might have met up with other travelers and ended up in the States somehow. (Who knows all of the crazy things people do, right?) Maybe he used the name Jason because people couldn't pronounce Fabrice. Who knows!

Sorry for the way out of left field match. But at this point, who knows?

Here is a Grateful Dead song which the young man probably heard a day or two before he died. Jerry Garcia, himself died only a few days later after two more concerts.

-----------------------------

"Black Muddy River"
Words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia
Copyright Ice Nine Publishing

When the last rose of summer pricks my finger
And the hot sun chills me to the bone
When I can't hear the song for the singer
And I can't tell my pillow from a stone

I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And sing me a song of my own
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And sing me a song of my own

When the last bolt of sunshine hits the mountain
And the stars start to splatter in the sky
When the moon splits the southwest horizon
With the scream of an eagle on the fly

I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And listen to the ripples as they moan
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And sing me a song of my own

Black muddy river
Roll on forever
I don't care how deep or wide
If you got another side
Roll muddy river
Roll muddy river
Black muddy river roll

When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears

I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And sing me a song of my own
And sing me a song of my own

Thanks for posting the lyrics, Richard. The last time the Grateful Dead played "Black Muddy River" was the encore at the RFK show on 7.24.95. So if Grateful Jason went to both shows, he did hear it. Jason's last song on 7.25.95 would have been "Brokedown Palace". A slight correction, Richard: Grateful Dead played eight more shows after RFK.

It just occurred to me, there is a documentary dvd about the Grateful Dead's final tour. I believe it's called "End of the Road", or something like that. I've seen it for sale in Borders. It's not put out by the Dead, focuses more on the fans than the music/band, at least from my understanding. Might be worth a look at to see if Jason is seen somewhere in it. Needle in a haystack. I guess if someone were really ambitious, they might want to check with the filmmakers to see what film they shot at RFK. I'm not sure more images of "Jason" would do any good in identifying him anyway.

You may be right about the number of concerts played. Jerry's last concert with the band was at Soldier Field in Chicago on 9 July 1995, - two weeks after the RFK concerts. He died in a drug rehab center in California on 9 August 1995.

am a new member as of today!speaking to you all the way from Australia.noticed a bazar connection that seemed to be present between the gradeful dead concert's and missing or dead people.very odd that so many are also unidentified.

  • #295
The following of that band were rather an unusual lot. They were "gypsies" in a sense. For most, it was a lifestyle instead of a fan obsession. Drugs played a huge part and so I am not surprised there are many unidentified and missing in association to the band connection.

I think our young Jason Doe was as American as apple pie with an Irish heritage in his midst. He could have been caught up in the lifestyle and, unfortunately, it led to his death leaving him probably listed as a runaway instead of missing...if his parents ever listed him at all.

Forgive me if I missed this (this thread is long!), but has this person been ruled out? The red curly hair struck me:

http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1758dmqc.html

He suffered from schitzophrenia - but many schitzophrenics are highly functioning and he may have just taken off to avoid medications and other controls being placed on him. Probably a longshot but thought I'd add the link here.

I think our doe had brown hair it was just dyed red.

I have a picture of this guy hanging on my wall in my home office, this one drives me nuts. I think about him everyday. (I have posters on all my walls, but the ones that nag me the most I have right in front of me, Rose Cole, Jason Jolkowski, WV Jane Doe/Deloris Melton, Maricopa Jane Doe, Monica Bowie, Clark Co Jane Doe, Robert Ashworth)

I will have to disagree...respectfully, of course. It looks natural with the freckles and his appearance, imo. To get that color...it would have to be professionally done and he doesn't look like he was the type.

I'm just stating the facts as they have been posted on various websites. I too thought the hair was naturally red but if you red through this thread you will see where I was corrected as well.
