I can't speak for how they do it there but when a car is taken for a search warrant here they do nothing on scene. The doors and truck are sealed with tape, some parts are even wrapped if they are concerned about things falling off. Once at the lab it is a slow and methodical process that can take days. Often several different types of lab techs work on it one after another because they all are trained in different things. I am sure they are working round the clock but it all takes time. Same goes for the house. They were there all day collecting. Analyzing is even slower.

Locals on social media are saying dreadlocks guy sits around at the mall for hours writing in a notebook.

So, I'm back to my theory that he's one of the "local eccentrics" that we all have. In the news conference LE said something to the effect of "a lot of ppl know this man."

A schizophrenic?

The vehicle was not searched. It was towed away to be searched/processed for evidence, which I might add, should have us all on pins & needles for results! Something in (possibly just from visual inspection through the window) or around the vehicle was located that enabled them to get a warrant for the apartment. I honestly doubt he was driving around for a week with any of her clothing or something obvious right in plain view. I would not doubt that they only needed to find something that would put him back at the scene of Tempo or even just the mall in general, and they could get the warrant for the apartment. I could be wrong though. Lord knows it wouldn't be the first time.

If the vehicle is unrelated to the search warrant for the row-houses, what led to that search warrant?

At the risk of sounding like Chief Longo, I can't answer that. I can only repeat that the chief said that the suspect's vehicle had not yet been searched when probable cause was developed that allowed them to seek a search warrant for the apartment.

I am getting ready to get some sleep, so sorry if I drop off, but yes I agree. For example, what if the dogs caught a scent because of something on POI that led them to the apt. I don't know how dogs work 100%, so if that's impossible then excuse my mistake on that. But as far as search warrants go if the dogs led them to the apt, then LE would have PC to get a warrant for the apartment. Finding something in the car may not automatically give them PC to get into the apt. It would depend on what it was, totality of the circumstances, and the individual magistrate. Some of them would not grant a warrant for that, but others would. Some see the apartment and car as completely separate, others see the apt as the next logical step after the car and would justify it/grant the warrant.

(modsnip)

Hannah does not look like a girl that would befriend a 270 pound 6'2" unemployed dreadhead after a couple of weeks at university. It seems like an oxymoron to believe that she was friends with the man that most likely murdered her.
I didn't look like the type of girl that would have either, but I would have had NO problem with talking to anyone when I was in school. Heck, I still don't! I'll talk to pretty much anyone.
Is there something about her in particular that makes you think she wouldn't speak to someone because he's tall and has dreads?

One thing became clear today at the press conference BG is a player. He knows the game. The chief seemed really poed and I think it was because BG didn't say anything.
They had a search warrant and searched. But I bet you,he wasn't talking.Maybe even a smart 🤬🤬🤬 to them.Just my general feeling,I hope they have evidence ,because this one won't be talking.Sure this is not his first run in with the law.

Who is BG?

Wow, the safety warnings from UVA are astonishingly scary to me. The comparable school I went to had around 10,000 more undergraduates (thanks wikipedia!) than UVA and even a single incident like this within a several year period would be terrifying to the student body. A series of incidents like this would have had my mom financing a mandatory sabbatical for me right back to my childhood bedroom. So many overlaps in streets and suspect descriptions. And men working TOGETHER to assault women. Wearing matching "Love Me" shirts. WTF?

Made me think about Morgan's t-shirt, and then about how RAT claimed to have been calling Samantha the night she went missing to warn her about a group of people that want to hurt her, having met her and her mom in a bar with a group of his own friends shortly before that. The second time around, with Alexis, he was careful to portray her and Cornrow Dude as friends, nothing weird or uncomfortable, they both left amicably, why would it be weird that I just invited a teenager into my RV that I ran into at the gas station where people said I used to sit in my car and watch people? Cornrow Dude, though.. test that beer can I haven't thrown away, that'll prove it!.. :/

Not to liken RAT's behavior to that of WG's, to be clear, or even accuse WG of anything. Just weird parallels. On 2 separate occasions I've had men be concerned about my drunk "this party sucks I want to listen to 90's music on a long walk" self.. they approached me (once outside, once in a diner) and carefully told me if there's anything I need help with, or if they can do anything for me, please let them know. it made me embarrassed for how I must have seemed, not frightened. but for all my gratitude, the thought of them or anyone at all so unhesitatingly and silently following me is going to remain unnerving for as long as girls and women keep vanishing after trusting the wrong person.

jmo. can't sleep. keep praying for hannah.

Yeah, actually, when I am uncomfortable I am more likely to talk to someone to keep them calm. I've found ignoring crazies makes them worse sometimes, so I will acknowledge them while I slowly ease my way out of the situation.

Would going past 14th and Wertland have been a possible direction of travel via car from the mall to get to somewhere more secluded or to Hessian area?

14th and Wertland is the location of the last text message ... at 1:20AM. Hannah was apparently with the large black man at that time, because we know that they were at Tempo after 1:08AM, and she got in the car with him after he purchased alcohol for take-out at Tempo ... and about 15 minutes passed.

Screwy timeline.

12 minutes after she was seen near Tempo, she was texting that she was lost a mile away from 14th and Wertland, but apparently in the meantime she spent up to 15 minutes near Tempo with the suspect, then willingly got into his car.

Ok Otto, please don't hate me for this. I promise I'll stop nit picking after this.
They did not get alcohol to go. Chief or Moodey (can't recall) said He bought alcohol. And they were not there long. We had a ton of discussion over the fact alcohol to go is illegal etc......On and on, and on. The way I interpreted it was as if he may have bought a shot or possibly a quickly downed alcohol beverage of some sort. I could be wrong on that note too though. I don't think it was like he stopped in there for a couple solo cups of booze for the ride. Again, my interpretation of the info from the news conference only.

I am sure this has been discussed, this thread is huge and fast!!! But, are they suuuure it was her that texted? Seems so likely that someone else (he) could have texted someone from her phone.

I was under the impression that no one saw her get in the car with him, that they were asking for people to come forward if they saw her get in the car with him.
Also, he couldn't have gotten any alcohol to go, it was after midnight. Abc off sales stop at midnight.

I don't think they're sure that it was her, someone correct me if I am wrong though.

Snippppy?

I don't think so.

I know what you mean, Otto. But maybe - just maybe, there is something else going on here. And if we are open to those possibilities, we won't miss it.

Huge search for Hannah tomorrow.

http://www.waff.com/story/26582079/1550-volunteers-to-search-charlottesville-for-hannah-graham

"You're looking for, most likely, physical evidence," Longo said. "Things like clothing, particularly clothing… We're talking about anything that looks like Hannah's sparkly sequin silver top or black capri pants."

Each team of volunteers will search for a maximum of four hours, and can only cover public property. If anything on private land appears suspicious, volunteers are urged to take pictures, and send police the photos from their cell phones.

"We know you'll be tempted to pick up lots of things along the way, but do not do that," Longo told the crowd. "That physical evidence could contain fibers, hair, what we call trace evidence. It could link back to people who had contact with the evidence."

Actually it happened slightly different than that - I don't mean to split hairs, but it may be significant. On Friday morning, while at the Hessian Hills apartments, Chief Longo was asked about the search of the suspect's vehicle by a reporter. I have to paraphrase Longo's reply because I don't have it in front of me, but it was roughly this: "The vehicle has been removed from the scene but has not yet been searched. While on-scene to remove this vehicle, probable cause developed which allowed us to seek a search warrant for the apartment." So it is possible that LE saw evidence inside the vehicle, outside the vehicle, or elsewhere at the premises (there was a dumpster close by) but at this time we don't know.

Could probable cause have been the three people inside fleeing the house?

to Hessian yes but the quicker way would have been to go up Preston Avenue instead of West Main by the corner where Wertland is. It's about a ten minute drive to Hessian from where she would have been seen getting into the car after Tempo.

All do these locales are very common UG destinations. Many undergrads live in apartment buildings or houses near 14th/Wertland because it is in spitting distance to the "Corner" (undergrad heavy bars) and campus proper.

Hessian Hills is right across from the Barracks Row shopping center, the closest and largest strip mall to campus. You could get on Main Street at the mall, pass the Corner, and take a right on route 29 and be at Hessian/Barracks in less than 10 minutes. It's a common city and campus bus route too.
