VA - Herndon, Joseph Ryan shot, Christine Banfield stabbed, both deceased, in home - Feb 2023

30K but no burner phones, going to the mailbox when he got home after he was ‘alerted about a stranger’ in the house, circling around the closest McDonalds like a creeper while waiting for the call, posting photos from a bathtub in New York, the weird 911 call. Just what comes to mind at the moment.

It would have been better to have JM hide in a closet for fear of the creeper, less testimony from her to the police. I wonder if he didn’t do that on purpose so that she would be implicated too. Did he foresee that he would put the blame on her if he was arrested?

He’s not smart enough to know that his behavior in court is saying that he is guilty.
I missed the detail about him checking the mailbox. Did that come out in testimony? What a moron. What are the bathtub photos?

It was a selfie in a hot tub with his mistress, taken in a hotel when the pair took a trip together to NY.
AFAIK this while his wife was still alive as well

Edit... apologies for assaulting everyone's retinas.

Believe it or not, there is ANOTHER bathtub photo that Juliana posted to her Instagram in December 2022 (before the murders). I don't think this one was taken in NY, but possibly in the family home, which is so disgusting. I would really like to know if CB had any suspicions about them having an affair. I have been following this case for a while, but have never heard any information on that.

They had recently extended Juliana for a 2nd year, would she have done that if she suspected an affair? Or was she just so beaten down by his serial cheating?

I found his crying fake and unconvincing, mooo.

I had to know what this says (Portuguese to English translation): "Oh my god, I've been so incredibly, hopelessly in love since July of last year." [That would have been July 2022]

I know when she was on the stand she said that things turned sexual in August of 2022. I thought it was really weird that when she was asked what their relationship was like prior to that, she said they barely spoke and that the majority of her interactions were with Christine. So how did they go from barely speaking to having an affair??

She wasn't 100% truthful, that's for sure. I believe that Christine worked shifts -- probably leaving the two of them "unsupervised" in her absence, say, at night, after he got home from work, the little girl was in bed, and mom was at work. Plenty of opportunities.

If I’m not mistaken there is video evidence of him going to the mailbox. I’m following a few trials and I need to make sure that is correct for this trial.

The window company was originally contacted in Jan. 2022 and were asked to give a quote for Double-Paned windows.
After the quote was given, the company did not hear from Brendan again until July 2022 when Brendan contacted them to say he wanted Triple-Paned windows.
Julianna testified their relationship became sexual in August 2022. She may have been lying or there was flirting leading up to their first sexual encounter in the months prior. Juliana did not go into details when testifying.

Juliana testified she blocked her ears when Brendan was stabbing Christine because she didn't want to hear the "conversation" between Christine and Brendan. There was no follow-up by the prosecutor asking about what was being said.
I imagine the "conversation" was Christine pleading for her life and asking why.
One minute Christine thought Brendan was saving her from Joseph, and the next Brendan is turning on her as well.
Makes me sick to think about it.

I think she has been encouraged by her attorney to make herself look as pathetic, naive, and unattractive as possible!

Honestly, to me she looks normal with dark hair and even a mustache.

She looks very scary, like a plastic doll, with her blonde hair and fake eyelashes. Because she has severe strabismus (is cross-eyed). At times it may even look attractive but not when one wears fake eyelashes! And while a small mustache women can have, even in her blonde version she cannot conceal unclear skin, as well as acne around the mouth and on the chin. Misuse of concealers and makeup makes bad skin worse.

So, sorry, blonde she resembled neither Marilyn Monroe nor Madonna but a regular “highway gal”. Maybe this is exactly what attracted Banfield?

With dark hair and natural look, she definitely comes across as less of a stupid sex object. She has zero morals, and she is a murderer. The only exculpatory factor for Juliana Peres Magalhães is that at the time of the murders she was 22 and Banfield was 37 or 38 and he was hellbent on killing his wife and the mother of his child for quite a while.

So no matter where Juliana ends, she still has the time to process the horrible fact: that at the age of 22, she killed two innocent people and orphaned a child. Also, that she is on trial because other women before her refused to do it, and she agreed.

I hope that when she is extradited to Brazil, Interpol and other organizations will limit her chances of ever finding a job outside of Brazil. I hope she’ll be monitored. Hopefully she is not totally lost…to herself, at least.

So, good decision, Juliana, that you agreed to testify against Banfield.

I hate pleas that let people like this get off easy. Then she goes back to Brazil where her family is and will live happily ever after because I'm betting that most Brazilians will never know what she did. Ugh!

I don’t think criminal records don’t follow people. I don’t know if fingerprints or DNA is kept in the Interpol but I wonder if there is a way to limit her movement outside Brazil.

She probably seriously undermined the institute of AU pairs or at least those from South America to start with.

And, that Banfield tried to find a co-conspirator but the only one who agreed was this woman from Brazil is not good advertisement either.

So I don’t think she’ll be welcomed there with open arms either.

She is a double murderess. A huge thing for a Catholic country.

Dr Kessler the chief medical examiner testified that Christine had different depths of knife wounds on the left and right sides of her neck. Juliana also testified that Brendan varied the way he was holding the knife (testimony from timestamp 6.59.05).

I think this could have been in his plan because he didn't know which was Joe's dominant hand, so he didn't want all the knife wounds to be on one side. IMO

What gets me so far is how any adult -- JM, his mom, anyone -- can sleep in the same house as him after knowing what he's capable of. As if he couldn't snap again and kill everyone in the house. How do you suspend those thoughts and eat, sleep and relax in the same house?

Which to me paints JM as even more of a psychopath because she watched it happen, participated in it, and then was able to share Christine's BED with him afterwards. That's cold. That's dark.

I don't think I could spend time in that house with them without a gun in my pocket and a strong lock on my bedroom door.

I've been thinking the same thing. But I don't think much sets Brendan and Juliana apart.

I do hope the judge overrides the attorneys time served request and gives her some more years here in prison. She is just as guilty as he is. Au pair's jailhouse letters before plea deal questioned in ex-lover's BDSM double-murder trial

It seems to be a true sign of psychopathy. No feelings about sleeping in the same room they killed two people.

It would freak out normal people. We can't even imagine it.
