VA VA - Isabella Miller-Jenkins, 7, Bedford, Sept 2009

  • #161
<snips>
In a ruling released Monday, the court upheld a 2009 order giving Janet Jenkins sole custody of Isabella Miller-Jenkins. It rejected an appeal by attorneys for biological mother Lisa Miller.
.............................
The custody ruling may be a moot point: Miller has renounced her homosexuality, and she and her daughter failed to appear for a court-ordered custody swap in January. Their whereabouts are now unknown.

Pastor Is Accused of Helping to Kidnap Girl at Center of Lesbian Custody Fight

Federal authorities last week arrested and charged a Tennessee pastor with aiding in the “international parental kidnapping” of a girl who has been missing since late 2009 and is at the center of a lengthy custody battle between her two mothers — a onetime lesbian couple who were in a civil union.

I am sick of seeing the Lesbian tag on this fwiw. This is a case of parental kidnapping imo. No different than the father who took the kids to church in IL in spite of a court order that he not take them.

In any case, there is more information on the network that spirited this child away from her legal now custodial parent-they appear to be associated with Jerry Falwell if I read the story correctly.

It irritates me that the AP chose to include a website raising money for the priest referenced in She's post above so folks can contribute to his legal fees. One has to wonder about the legal fees accumulated by Isabella's custodial parent.

Small rant-parental kidnapping, the majority that is, is about control imo. Miller did not want to share their child any more. This was NBD-shared custody, many people to love and support Isabella. Nope, instead this child is running from place to place for how long until the only parent she has left in her life currently is arrested and dragged off to a federal prison. THIS is considered to be a responsible choice?

Gay custody fight leads to manhunt

Lisa Miller’s path from lesbian in committed relationship to international fugitive started in 2003.

She broke up with her partner, Janet Jenkins, renounced homosexuality and became an evangelical Christian before disappearing in 2009 with the daughter she had with Jenkins.

Now, what started as a custody battle over little Isabella Miller-Jenkins has turned into a global manhunt, with indications that Mennonite pastors and other faith-based supporters might have helped hide the two in Nicaragua and are now coming to the aid of one whom the FBI says helped Miller.

US: Va. man surrenders in Vt. lesbian custody case

A Virginia man who federal prosecutors say helped a woman leave the country with her daughter so she wouldn't have to turn custody of the girl over to her former lesbian partner surrendered Tuesday to face charges he aided in international parental kidnapping.

[snip]

Kenneth Miller appeared in U.S. District Court in Burlington, Vt., on Tuesday and was released, said U.S. Attorney Tristram Coffin, who would provide no further information about the case.

[snip]

The latest complaint alleges that Kenneth Miller, a Mennonite pastor, asked another Mennonite pastor from Ontario, whose name was redacted from the affidavit, to meet Lisa Miller and her daughter Isabella, now 11, at a hotel in Niagara, Ontario.

In Ontario, that pastor picked Lisa Miller and her daughter up at the hotel and took them to the airport in Toronto, where they flew to Mexico and then Central America.

If convicted of aiding in international parental kidnapping, Kenneth Miller could be sentenced to three years in prison.

Still praying Isabella is found and comes home soon. We haven't forgotten you Isabella, nor have we forgotten Janet, who has a right to her child, too.

I hope this person is prosecuted to the max. There is NOTHING that annoys me more than Christians who use their faith to break the law and justify breaking the law. May they receive justice in this life and the next.

Come home soon Isabella!

So they dropped the charges against one guy accused of helping her and then charged another one....

The first one is said to be "cooperating" so I would think that he would be able to find out where they are at.

I am totally with you on the Christians who use their faith to justify their illegal actions...

What bugs me even more is people (GLBT, straight or purple, don't care) who are in a relationship with someone for a length of time...
CHOOSE to have a child with them... and THEN decide that person can't be around their child?

They were good enough for the 2 years or more before you had kids...
When you went through IVF or artificial insemination or adoption they were good enough to have kids with.
Then after the kid is born, suddenly they are not good enough to be that child's parent? :waitasec:

This isn't a case where there are claims that the other parent is a killer or child abuser.
It is a matter of the parents claiming different values, morals and religious beliefs.

Fortunately the court doesn't generally allow you to deprive the other parent based on that alone.
Lucky this didn't happen in Florida. :twocents:

The brainwashing that child will have when she is returned though... she wouldn't be able to go live with Janet immediately.
And then how will custody be decided? Because Lisa will just take her again if given joint custody. So I wonder how that would be handled...
