VA - Johnny Depp's defamation case against ex Amber Heard, who countersued #14

Another piece of the puzzle:

(Has both a nice picture of and identifies the Travelers' rep by name, btw).

Depp could still potentially claim the money he was awarded by garnishing his ex-wife’s wages from her two upcoming movies, levy her assets or even seize her house in California’s Yucca Valley, experts told The Post.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom desert oasis has been valued at $1 million. Heard purchased it in 2019 for $570,000 under a private trust in the name of her accountant, according to property records seen by The Post.

“If she doesn’t have the money, then his avenue, while she’s pursuing an appeal, is to try to execute on property she owns,” or her bank accounts, Virginia appellate lawyer Steven Emmert said.

He added that if Depp wants to find out where Heard’s assets are, he could serve her with a summons for debtors interrogatories “where you summon the debtor to come to a court and his lawyer would get to ask her questions saying ‘What property do you own, what real estate do you own, what vehicles do you own, what jewelry do you own, what art collections’ — anything else that they could use to grab and sell at auction to try to pay down and pay off, ultimately, this judgment.”

Denton said that if Heard doesn’t turn over the judgment money, “[Depp] can institute collection proceedings so he can garnish [Heard’s] pay, if she has a salary or wage-type income.”

“He can attach her assets which basically means seize them. He can get to her assets, sell them and take cash,” Denton said.

Litigator Brett Turnbull said judgements in Virginia are good for 10 years and have the ability to be extended.

“[Heard] could be subject to this judgment for up to 30 years. If she suddenly had a new infusion of money — that can be discovered by [Depp] and pursued,” said Turnbull, a founding partner at Turnbull Holcomb & Lemoine.

Reps for Depp didn’t comment.

Sean Bett, JD's security bodyguard guy (he always looks mega stressed out to me!!!)

He is always so serious. I use to think he was being a bit dramatic because compared to Jerry he was but I realize they can’t be carefree one minute and serious the next. Now I see them much like the secret service as far as demeanor goes. They literally have to be all hands on deck with Johnny because he will wander off to sign autographs.

What I’d like to know is what their relationship is like once they get in the car, bus or plane to leave. They have been together for so long. Small talk? No talk? Jolly talk?

agreed, not hard for me to see where bullying ends and reaping what you sowed begins. Is it really bullying when the bully gets bullied?
Calling them out, fighting back, standing up against bullies…. The battle of good against evil. All necessary. And, She was always asking for a fight. She DEMANDED a fight. Just ask Johnny. :(

I hate harassment.
I hate bullying.
We also know there are long term effects from "you make your bed now you lie in it."

Just so you know, the 'report' (singular) comes from Bot Sentinel, a company that's been working for AH since 2020. The CEO has been crusading on her behalf on twitter for a while now. (He has an interesting past if you dig into it, very shady practices) AH has been alleging that there's a coordinated smear campaign by JD against her since the lawsuit began. It was part of her countersuit, but luckily the judge didn't find the claims compelling or convincing at all. Bot Sentinel is invested in still pushing that narrative because that's what they've been paid for. Funny how none of the MSM are reporting on those facts.

You can even test your own twitter account activity against their "hate" algorithm and find some interesting results, especially if you've ever commented about the trial at all.

WHO, the Pope and the Royal family reportedly came up as 'disruptive' and/or 'problematic' according to their formula a few years back and we all know they are NOT fake bots or pushing some kind of hate-filled agenda. I'd take that report with a huge grain of "AH PR sprinkled" salt. Just my opinion, of course, but I think their methodology is pretty suspect and weighted towards whatever clients they are trying to please.

I don't think her appeal will matter much to anyone but her. All the dirt was aired in a public forum and regardless of which side you land on those opinions are solidly formed. At this point the only thing she can really gain is not having to pay JD. The damage to reputations has already been done.

I asked too soon. Guess she was able to find the bond money.

Real life has sort of got in the way of me following this as close as I once did, so I just have to ask:
Doesn't that mean she has to actually pay the amount Johnny was awarded?
If yes, and she was too broke to pay her lawyers, how did she magically produce a cool 8.3 million?

"We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realize today's filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice," a spokesperson for Heard said on
Thursday."

Really???

First Amendment??
Just like Guthrie responded to AH: "The First Amendment protects speech … it doesn't protect lies that amount to defamation.”

They realize the filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires.... That's is her goal. That's what she wants.

Just like when she was "baiting" Jepp with her interview. She wanted his team to litigate, she wants to go back to court. As someone said up above "she wants to fight."

yeah, well, I wish her luck, especially considering that what they forgot to do during the actual trial was… argue the first amendment for more than five minutes... can it really be a point of appeal if you never argue it first time around??

AGREED! She's not interested in the appeal. She wants the drug out court case with all its attention. As @neesaki put it: "She was always asking for a fight. She DEMANDED a fight. Just ask Johnny."
That's all she's interested in...she needs it to function. moo

"In response, Depp’s representative said his team remains confident the verdict will be upheld."

“The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp, in multiple instances,” his spokesperson said. “We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”

sigh, I want to know where she came up with the bond and what amount was received. No way shopping at TJ Maxx in staged photos for a few days saved her enough to do so. Did EM front her the funds? grrr I knew she wouldn't go away, but I really didn't think she'd come up with the juice to appeal. I truly expected her appeal to take place in the court of public opinion only.

come to think of it, I think The only person who keeps mentioning the first amendment is PR person David Shane... and that’s because nobody on her legal team actually intends to argue it.

The appeal is pro forma, to keep her in the press and stall on judgment.

Constant repetition of the first amendment, is designed as the future public relations drum to beat.

The reason her PR thinks they can carry-on about it, is because they’re counting on none of us media consumers to actually read the underlying appeal documents.

so the next time Amber starts complaining or writing about free speech, they will remember her press nonsense alone, and think this is her 'thing'.
