Depp 'did a movie entirely wasted'
Expert witness, psychiatrist David R Spiegel is being questioned by Amber Heard's lawyer Elaine Bredehoft.
Dr Spiegel confirms he has seen video evidence including Depp: "
slamming cupboards, breaking glass and yelling at Ms Heard while having a wine glass in his hand" and also "
disruption in the house".
He says he has requested to interview Depp twice, but says his requests have been turned down by Depp and his lawyers.
The doctor confirms that part of his role today is to explain whether he thinks Depp's behaviour is consistent with someone who has substance abuse disorder and also someone who has risk factors for perpetrating intimate partner violence.
After discussing Depp's excessive use of liquor and drugs (both illegal and prescription), he is asked by Heard's lawyer about Depp's ability to "
function as an actor".
The court has previously heard that Depp used an earpiece to act with, and it was alleged his lines were sometimes delivered to him this way.
Dr Spiegel says he is aware Depp has "
confessed to doing a movie entirely wasted". He apologises that he can't remember which film, but goes on to say "
his thinking rate was down... if your attention is impaired, your memory rate is going to be impaired".
However, he continues: "
In this trial, [Depp's] cognition has improved, as when you are sober. So I commend him on that."
Depp, who is listening to the evidence, looks entirely stony faced while listening to this, despite the slightly provocative testimony.
