VA - Joseph Ryan shot, Christine Banfield stabbed, both deceased, in home - Herndon 24 Feb 2023

I don't think the CW has proved their case nor has the defense.
I question the CW's decision to use JM as their witness against BB (not touching on their plea deal and recommendations to the judge.."time served").

From the get-go would the CW have had a stronger and less convoluted case had they charged and tried both BB & JM for the murders of CB & JR together or separately?

Something makes me think so and that something may be from having watched other murder trials which I admit may be a moot point.
imo
I don’t think either side has proven their case yet but IMO, the vast majority of the evidence so far indicates guilty. I can’t get past the ludicrous idea of this suburban woman with a small child at home, and apparently no prior history of such actions, inviting a complete stranger whom she has never met into her home and asking him to perform a violent fantasy with her. And oh by the way, forgetting that she left her phone downstairs in a drawer when she went to bed effectively preventing her from calling 911 if things went south. I mean who does that? I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind agreeing to all this and taking such a risk.

Perhaps the CW felt that it would be difficult to get a conviction of murder for BB without JMs testimony which is why they decided to go in the direction they did.

Just like it's not always possible to say who was operating a device, who's to say JM and BB didn't park their phones elsewhere in order to alibi themselves whine one or both of them was manipulating CB's device at home?

Why would BB enlist another person unless he needed another person? I think he needed another person in order to move phones around to make it look like he wasn't where he was.

I hope the CW knocks this testimony into the bin with a few brief questions.

JMO
And remember that BB also needed another person (female) to talk to JR on the phone.

I don't get this.
The defense's forensic expert who is still on the stand is sitting in the gallery as Carroll was cross-examining the au-pair.
When I was a witness in a criminal trial I wan't permitted in the courtroom until after I had testified.
We always see witnesses being escorted into the courtroom to testify and asked by the judge if they had listened to prior testimonies in the trial.

Why was he there?

JM's direct and cross

2:06:35 sitting right behind John Carroll.

I believe experts are allowed to sit in on testimony.

Totally agree about the case and CB.
Had the CW not used JM as their witness then both BB & JM would have been hit with all the incriminating evidence the CW had on the 2 lovers who schemed to get rid of the wife.
Just the 911 hang-up, not answering the call backs from police then waiting about 15 minutes before again calling police by JM and the lack of a 911 by BB from McDonalds before he drove to the house is beyond eyebrow raising.

Photos, JM's social media posts, letters,
Circumstantial evidence is used all the time to establish intent and can be sufficient for a conviction if the chain of evidence is consistent and leaves no reasonable doubt.

All the forensics on CW's phone seem irrelevant when stacked against the lover's circumstantial evidence as their reasons for having murdered CB & JR.
imo

Ugh

Defense tries to introduce an exhibit that he is already in evidence.

Judge: we've been here four times.

Conclusion: Defense dod not use the snow break to get it together.

Rbbm

Which is why I hope the CW pulverizes it on cross.

I also hope the CW provides the jury with expert testimony on the tactics taken by criminals who try to stage their crimes.

I want CB's reputation fully vindicated.

She did not send those messages, she did not invite a stranger into her home, she did not set up any of the events that led to her death nor to JR's.

Who had motive?

The two people who immediately claimed her bed for their nasty love nest.

Regarding the current experts testimony, what the jury I'm sure would like to see is a video of both BB and JM walking around in a Target or Lowes or something like that where their phones pinged at the exact same time the fetlife account was created or being accessed in the Banfield home. But I don’t think we are going to see that.

FWIW I picture BB playing earnest games of Tic Tac Toe on the notepad in front of him.

Also, I'm picturing him losing every round.

Do we know the context of the swimsuit photo? Was that a home bathroom?

Did CB think they had an upcoming vacation?

I'm sorry, I think this was all a set up, and a long game.

I suspect BB tricked CB into taking that swimsuit selfie.

I suspect BB set CB up to create that entire Google account. Probably convinced her they should have a joint one, for whatever reason.

CB sent that selfie to BB. If she were taking a selfie to advertise herself on a fetish hookup site, she'd have included the fetish in the photo and she's be on a bed, in lingerie.

IMO this wasn't a selfie at all. It was a photo of the swimsuit, on.

And also TOGETHER at Target, Lowe's, etc.

Agree, that swimsuit photo would not be one that a person would upload to a fetish website, unless you were very lazy. ;) This photo should be on CB's phone, which should give context, unless BB deleted it.

It appears to be a gym bathroom/locker room selfie to me. Yes definitely not taken with the intent of setting up a profile pic. for a fetish website, IMO. Note the doll sitting on a shelf that can be seen in the mirror image, Also as a woman, IF I were wanting to take a “sultry” photo of myself, I would have zoomed in more to eliminate all the background (ie locker room/ doll etc….). I’d heard/seen that they regularly took cruises with other couples, so my best guess is she was trying on/bought a new suit in anticipation for an upcoming cruise (seeing as how this was in late January so assuming she was NOT looking for her summer suit that early in the year).

I would think that in making a serious attempt for attracting a male on a fetish site to fulfill your fantasy would not involve posting an image of yourself with in a very conservative bathing suit and you'd also send your husband the same image to boot.
There's the possibility that a husband could put a photo of his wife in Tineye and the fetish site could have appeared.

Defense John Connell has no concern what the judge says and so far her patience and kind reprimands just enable him to continue.
There is a method to his madness and so far it's worked for him.

All of the examples that the current experts is testifying to can be easily explained by the fact that BB and JM had control of both CB's phone and laptop during this time, probably when CB was asleep upstairs because she had to get up early to get to work at 7 AM for her job as an ICU nurse. And BB and JM either had access to CB's log in info for things like facebook, or more likely CB set those accounts up so that login information was not needed to be reentered each time you accessed those accounts.

"Oh, Judge, I'm sorry, uh..."

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Deliberately verbose, insincerity apologetic, terminally repetitive.

Is it still last week?

Sigh.

Now, I'M playing Tic Tac Toe. (I'm winning.)
