That's a good question. Also, it's possible to have a GPS chip implanted just like a micro-chip. While I agree it's unlikely Kathleen was abducted along with her dog, it still a possibility. GPS would be able to pinpoint at least the dog's location. I hope that avenue has been looked into by LE.

The man in the composite sketch was seen in the area of Haley's apartment in the 2800 block of West Avenue Sept. 4, according to McPherson.

Police say Haley's vehicle has been parked at her residence and has not been moved and items from her home are missing, according to a press release from Newport News Police. Additionally, police say Haley's 1-year-old Boxer Molly is missing.

It's been nearly three weeks since anyone has heard from or seen Kathleen Haley. The 37-year-old lives on West Avenue and now, police have a sketch of a man they want to find.
"We don’t know what relationship, if any, this male had with Haley. He was seen in the area and it was suspicious," said police spokeswoman Holly McPherson.

I hope someone has checked animal control, the Humane Society, and all dog rescues for the dog. They would need to check animal control right away because most don't keep a dog for long. If the dog was found dragging a leash, that would indicate that she went missing while walking the dog. I wonder if the dog was protective at all towards her. The dog is distinctive enough looking that it seems like someone would remember if they had seen it. I wonder if it had ID on its collar. All of my dogs are microchipped and carry ID.

This is the worse possible news. LE is saying this looks like more than a missing person case.
Why on earth did LE not release this report sooner.

This really is awful news. When I first started this thread, I was hoping Kathleen had just taken some time for herself. But given how long it has been since she has been heard from, along with the news today of possible blood on the apartment walls, I'm finding it hard to hold onto hope. JMO

no it doesn't! he obviously had some idea of what he was doing to get rid of evidence too. It also seems like he spent a great deal of time cleaning up the mess he made and wasn't very worried about anyone coming to her place. Makes you wonder.. was she dating anyone do we know?

I'm also wondering why her computer was taken. Could this have been someone she met online through a dating site?

I wonder about online dating, too. The circumstances of her disappearance sound very similar to cases where the boyfriend/husband/ex is found to be the perp. JMO

I totally agree, Marilynilpa.

It would seem to me that it had to be someone who knew she didn't have many visitors coming around since it appears he was meticulous in destroying evidence minus the blood on the walls though.

Maybe it was someone she met off a dating site who had been stalking her? Ugh :-/

I wonder if there have been any searches of the parks in the area. Does anyone know? I'll see if I missed that info in any of the articles..

Also, I checked the sex registry database to see if there were any sex offenders in the area that fit the description/photo. Came up empty.

sorry for multiple postings... i came across this news article that has a VERY informative video that shows which apartment complex she was living in AND the dumpster that the missing mattress was found in by police. If this has already been posted please let me know and I'll remove this post. (I'm exhausted and may have missed it.)

It says in the above article, "Family say Haley was extremely private and all they know is that she worked in a bar, they don't know which one."

So.. now we at least know she was working at a bar somewhere..


I also read that her car hasn't moved but that the drivers seat in her car was pushed all the way back and since she's a tiny woman I can't imagine she was the last one to drive her car which would lead me to believe that whoever made her disappear used her vehicle to transport her out of her apartment. How was this not seen? Maybe one of those mini marts on West Ave. have a camera pointed out towards the street?

Haley lived in an apartment on West Avenue in downtown Newport News. On Sept. 4, a man was seen using a key to enter Haley's apartment. The same man was seen to "walk down the stairs with an armful or something rolled up, possibly bedding ..." the affidavit states.

Haley's sister and brother-in-law, Diane Roman and Jesus Roman, went inside Haley's apartment when they hadn't heard from her. They noted the missing items, as well as what appeared to be "blood on the wall and dried blood on some clothing in a clothes basket," according to the affidavit.

Haley's car was parked outside her apartment. Jesus Roman told police the door was unlocked, even though Haley always locked her car.
