VA VA - Kathleen Haley, 37, Newport News, 1 Sept 2012

  • #141
I live in a surrounding city and the coverage has almost stopped here. Apparently some are focused on her "supposed" job as a dancer ( I don't believe this has been confirmed). Regardless of one's background or profession, every missing person deserves every effort possible to locate them. Breaks my heart. Where are you Kathleen?

Somehow I overlooked this in a recent article regarding the man's sketch:

Snip:

A man's 9-year old stepdaughter said, "I seen that man. They used to argue a lot at her house."

She said the man was yelling at her and that she'd seen him more than once at the complex.

http://www.wvec.com/my-city/nnews/P...-near-missing-womans-apartment-170241016.html

I wonder how reliable this 9 year old witness is?

This doesn't sound like someone who just followed her home. It sounds like someone she was in some kind of relationship with. Somebody that knew her has to know who this person is and what type of relationship they had.

Her computer and phone were taken so it was likely someone she communicated with enough by those devices that they felt the need to get rid of them.

I just have to believe that LE has much more info. She lived in an apartment for heavens sake. Some info from neighbors made it to the media but there has got to be more. This man had to take out a body (JMO), a dog, a computer, a bed, some garbage from cleaning up...he had to make lots of trips in and out of the apartment.

Her bicycle is even gone.

LE either has more or they didn't check anything. Which is it?

FWIW, I think her neighbors probably know more than they have told LE. There are some neighborhoods where LE can generally expect no cooperation from residents, and I think Kathleen may live in one of those neighborhoods. JMO

Bumping. Too soon to go cold! It's sad that people aren't pushing for publicity.

I just so happen to agree with you. Does not matter what profession, ethnicity, or socio economic status. We would all want the same justice for our family members.

Kathleen, you have many people praying for both you and your family!

Guys, I think I may have a match to the photo. Its someone who left a comment on her fb page.(mind you the person has short rather than long hair in the other photos I saw of him on his fb page) I know its a rules violation to post it here but I desperately need a second opinion.
Anyone have a suggestion?

The information should be submitted to the law enforcement agency in charge of Kathleen's case.

Can you do that LittleMissContrary?

Kathleen, can you hear us? We are screaming for justice for you. Why is there nothing in the news for Kathleen?

I can't shake the feeling that due to her lifestyle (or perceived lifestyle), LE isn't pushing this as hard as they could. JMO, and I hope I'm wrong.

I think part of the problem in finding Kathleen is that many of her friends aren't the type to willingly cooperate with LE. The same is possibly true of her neighbors.

I still wonder what happened to Kathleen's dog.:waitasec:

Little Miss Contrary, Have you heard back from LE on your hunch?

I think you are half right. I know a couple of the detectives that work the area and they're not the sort that dismiss a case because the victim doesn't fit their ideal human. I think the difficulty with this case isn't lack of police interest but the lack of witness testimony and uncooperative family members. Similarly, community interest isn't going be piqued by someone from the fringes. There are literally dozens of unsolved violent crimes and homicides from that geographical area of Newport News that happen in broad daylight in front of crowds but no one will cooperate. It's not surprising considering the history of witness deaths and tampering that's happened in the past or the overwhelming culture.

Recently, a murder suspect was arrested after months evading authorities. He was helped by people in the community; neighbors, friends, and family knew he was running. They all helped him out. Not out of fear but cause "it's the police's job to find people and arrest them, why do the police's job for them by turning him in?" They had no sense of civic responsibility. For the police, it's like herding cats.

God forbid something like this should happen to someone in their family. They would absolutely want someone to step up and DO THE RIGHT THING!! imo

I don't envy LE trying to get information out of uncooperative family, friends and neighbors. We have similar areas here in Pittsburgh where quite a bit of crime, predominantly gang and/or drug related, seems to occur on a daily basis. LE often has a difficult time finding anyone who witnessed anything, even if a shooting occurs in an open area with numerous people standing around. Fear of retaliation is very strong in some communities. Apathy is also strong, in spite of ongoing efforts by leaders in these communities to get people involved.

Regarding Kathleen's abductor/killer, I am hoping he left a trace of himself behind through fingerprints, DNA or other evidence. I have a feeling he will get caught eventually, maybe in relation to another crime, and evidence from Kathleen's apartment will connect him to her murder.

I hope Kathleen's body is found at some point. And I worry so about the fate of her dog.

If I lived in Newport News (or any of the surrounding areas that seem to have more than their fair share of missing women), I'd be terrified. It seems like there's a crazy killer on the loose (who seems to be decently good-looking according to the sketch LE put out in Kathleen's case, not someone who screams "fear me!" when you look at him) and this guy can come into your home, attack (or murder) you to the point of spilling tons of by our blood on your mattress and carpet, sneak you (or your body) off somewhere, and he even takes (or kills) your dog and no one seems concerned about it. That's scary! I wish people in this region of VA would get scared enough to raise a fuss to the media and LE.

I couldn't agree more.

Little Miss Contrary, Have you heard back from LE on your hunch?

Funny you should ask. My email keeps getting rejected for some reason. The Newport news police department does not appear to have a contact email addy, only a contact number. So I sent the email to the detective from the missing persons unit and it keeps coming back to me. I have a paid internet account so I don't understand what went wrong. Anyone have an alternate contact address?
