GUILTY VA - Lenny Harris, 53, robbed & murdered, Alexandria, 21 Sept 2011

Okay, this article states that the ATM was at an "unspecified Chevy Chase ATM". But Chevy Chase is Mont. County?

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/l...in-Missing-Alexandria-Man-Case-130811498.html

Further, there are no Capital One banks in Chevy Chase...

Now, I suppose they could mean Chevy Chase Bank, but that logo in tne pic clearly looks like the Capital One logo to me, and in one of the pics you can make out the letters in "Capital".

Color me confused.

Chevy Chase Bank, F.S.B. was the largest locally-based banking company in the Washington Metropolitan Area[3]. It was acquired by Capital One in 2009 and rebranded as Capital One Bank in 2010.

Chevy Chase Bank was bought out by Capital One, so that probably explains it... The only reason I remembered is that a Chevy Chase bank in our neighborhood is now a Capital One bank.

ETA: If you google both Capital One Bank and Chevy Chase Bank in Oxon Hill MD, you get the same address for both. I'm thinking that's "the one" (on Oxon Hill Rd). But I can't zoom in close enough. We were over that way last night for supper, and I almost asked DH to drive by but the kids were fussy and we were all cranky, so we just came straight home.

ETA again: Jinx, Surfie... :D

Here is an article from the Washington Post - it's a couple of days old but has some add'l information:

Desperate search for Alexandria activist
By Allison Klein, Published: September 28

Former lightweight boxing champion Tony Suggs was scheduled to speak to inmates at the Alexandria jail, and he had asked his longtime friend and mentor for help.

Lenwood “Lenny” Harris showed up at the recreation center where Suggs works, and the two men talked about Suggs’s addiction-to-redemption story, a story he was to deliver the next day. Then Suggs stepped away briefly.

“When I came back, he was gone,” Suggs said. That was the evening of Sept. 21. Harris didn’t go home to his wife that night, didn’t show up for Suggs’s talk at the jail and hasn’t been seen since.

It's discouraging that nothing seems to be developing in this case. Such a strange and sad disappearance, of such a dynamic and important man. One wants not to believe some of the possible scenarios/causes, the political angles and the money angles. Community activists are always somewhat at risk (I used to be one, for a living). I wish something would break here....

Where are you lovely man? Yesterday was my birthday and I thought about Lenny. I made a special wish for him.

Bumping for Lenny again.

I had been wondering why I hadn't seen LE searching the river, even though I don't think he's there. I still believe that the phone that was found on the bridge was meant to land in the river, so it's conceivable that there's other stuff in the river, too (although it would be hard to find in the murky water, silt/mud, and other junk out there). Even though I don't think he's in there, I'm surprised LE hasn't at least checked.

Then today, as I was driving home, I looked over and saw 2-3 RIBs out there below the bridge (rigid inflatable boats). I couldn't tell what they were doing, much less if it was LE or just someone else. But I didn't see any fishing lines. It was very low tide.

I pulled over at the little park and took a few pics with my cell phone but I'm not posting it yet b/c more than likely it's not related. But I just thought I'd relay the info.

Where is Lenny?!?

Still nothing in the news online - has there been anything on local TV news, Belimom?

Okay, looking at this photo, I'm a little confused...

van1.jpg

There appears to be no one in the driver seat, unless they are leaned back in the shadows, and the person seen is sitting in the passenger seat, right? Also, it appears that there is someone sitting in the back passenger side seat, doesn't it? A much smaller person, possibly a child? Where is the driver? It looks like they're at a driver-thru ATM, but I suppose the driver could have gotten out and walked up to the ATM.

The head in the backseat does appear to be smaller, like that of a child, doesn't it?

I was also wondering about the driver. Looking closer, if you look to the right of the passenger's head, there is an outline in the shadows - that could be just the passenger seat-back, but maybe could also be the outline of the driver? But it's completely dark, so it's hard to tell. Maybe he pulled up to the drive thru too far away to reach, and he hopped out of the car, and was just in the right spot so he didnt get picked up on camera? Strange!

Also, was anyone able to ever figure out which of the Capital One/Chevy Chase banks this was?

I was wondering if the silhouette in the back may be the shadow of the driver who could have gotten out to use the ATM? It's either that or a child, IMO.

As for which bank, I can't tell from looking at satellite/street views. This weekend, though, we'll be passing through PG County, so if I can convince DH to let me 'sleuth', then I'll check out a couple that I think may be the location.

Praying for Lenny.

Oops - sorry I missed this post. We actually don't have cable so we don't watch hardly any TV... Any news I see is on the internet. :innocent:

Can this man really have just disappeared? Poof? Without a trace?

Anyone hearing anything locally? Are there missing posters up? Can anyone push local media to stay on top of it?

Hoping against hope at this point, for some good news....

It's not on the local DC news at all that I've heard...

I think the basic message is that it sucks to be a missing black adult male in this country no matter how upstanding.

Still thinking of you, Lenny.

From my time in DC area, I remember there being a lot in the news about corruption in PG county LE - without tarring all LE with the same brush, I do want to ask if it's possible this corruption extends to other metro LE depts? And could this account for a lack of attention/action on Lenny's case? I can imagine that being an activist, Lenny might have some in LE or local government that don't think kindly of him. ( I can also equally imagine that he knows a great deal of people, and is friendly with many in LE and local govt too, though :waitasec: ) Not to say that they would do him or wish him harm, but that maybe they might not be inclined to look to hard, or were told, in not so many words, not to look hard? :(

Hope that's not the case, but just a thought that occurred to me.
